Announce a gaming console without actually showing games? That’s ONE approach

There it is; the new Xbox. Practically named Xbox One. Why? Because it does al the things one device should do, according to Microsoft that is. To me it’s al about the games and we didn’t see much of that. But at least they showed us the big clumsy box holding the millions of transistors together. And according to Major Nelson that’s of huge importance when announcing a new console. Well it’s not.

The same people dissing Sony for not showing the console, seem to be completely fine w/ Microsoft showing no games.

You are 100 percent correct. I could never understand why Sony was criticized for not showing the console, because what they did show was far more critical. They gave specs and games and were blasted by some by showing exactly what was important. Now you see how to really box it up when Microsoft steps to the plate months later and gives us nothing of interest. 5 billion transistors. Really? 8 gigs of Ram. What kind of Ram please? All Microsoft did was show the box. Now you idiots should all appreciate what Sony did. And with the nondescript, unexciting look of the Xboxone, Microsoft should have hidden that thing for as long as possible. It doesn't look bad, it just doesn't look particularly interesting. It will definitely be intriguing to see how the PS4 differs in appearance.

They seem fine because Microsoft stated several times that the reveal was going to be mainly focused on the console itself and features. We already knew there weren't going to be many games shown and that COD was one of them, honestly I was a little surprised they should as many as they did.(Why the hell was EA there?)

People who didn't know this before hand, mainly sony trolls, saw this as a disappointment. While everyone who paid attention knew the games were, hopefully, going to be in full force at E3.

Same reason Sony people were fine with them not showing a console, they never said they were going to show the console.

MariaHelFutura4414d ago

It was not hardware focus at all. They glanced over the specs and weren't even actually controlling the OS. The only thing the really reveal was TV, showed what they want Kinect 2 to do and said they have 15 exclusives in the first year. (Speculation) 8-10 of those are probably entirely Kinect based since it seems to be their focused. So all and all they really didn't say sh!t IMO.

LoveOfTheGame4414d ago

I also don't like how they glossed over specs, as well as creating confusion on other areas, but they did show the console and did what they stated they were going to do.

As it were, hopefully, they have went through the features the new Xbox has and won't need to do much, if at all, with those features at E3 and deliver on the games promise.

This is probably the most horribly written story I have ever read. This is clearly an article written by someone still in high school. I get what you are trying to say but you're structure and format is terrible. You don't say last but not least and then start the next paragraph, Oh and before I forget. Let alone to actually write, to conclude this story.

Back on topic Sony's reveal wasn't that much different. We saw a couple of games yes, but Microsofts reveal was not geared towards games, they specifically said it days before the event even started. This reveal will specifically focus on the console and the entertainment services and we'll let E3 take the stage for games. This means Microsoft is highly confident their games will run E3. I'm not taking any sides here but every one is shitting on the reveal about how they didn't show any games when they specifically said they wouldn't show games. The features and entertainment services were the main focus which means they want to leave E3 strictly for games.

On the topic of used games and what not, no one knows what sony's official decision is in terms of used games as well. They said no one would be stopped from playing used games but that doesn't say they wont be forced to pay for used games. Yes Sony is looking into using Gaikai but they never confirmed Gaikai would be available on release nor did they confirm it for the system they said maybe so backwards compatibility one way or the other is still up in the air.

The always on once a day connection thing is a whole other topic in itself I definitely do agree with that being a little overboard but they do somewhat justify it with what seems to be a cool idea on pen and paper but lets see how that goes.

Both consoles will obviously dominate no matter what the fanboys say. There is no one console to rule them all and it isn't going to happen any time soon. These are multibillion dollar companies and even with the always online it will never fail like EA' and Diablo's DRM. Microsoft is more than prepared for that kind of issue as well as Sony if that were the case.

TLDR; Article was badly written, both consoles will have ups and downs but they will obviously both dominate. Don't count the Wii U out I think its going to be just like the Wii and will explode this holiday season and over the next 2 years. Nintendo has only released a handful of games and that's how all console launches go.

@ilikecookies
It's nice to see somebody with intelligence and reaspning skills posting in these parts amidst the fanboys and other morons who don't pay attention or simply ignore pertinent information to suit their agendas.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate Co-op Review [Co-Optimus]

"A few years ago, a mobile game developer called Super Evil Megacorp had the brilliant idea of making a TMNT roguelike. After first releasing it on Apple Arcade, they wisely recognized the game’s potential on other platforms. TMNT: Splintered Fate has slowly but surely come to all major platforms, finally arriving on Xbox today. Not only is Splintered Fate a fine roguelike and co-op game, but it’s also one of the best TMNT games ever made," says Co-Optimus.
