Xbox One Does Require Internet Connection, Can't Play Offline Forever

The Xbox One doesn't have to be online all the time, but it does have to be online. Not just once in a while—once a day, according to Microsoft vice president Phil Harrison.

In a Q&A on their press site for the new Xbox, Microsoft tackles the always-on question with a strangely-worded answer: "No, it does not have to be always connected, but Xbox One does require a connection to the Internet."

the admins have been relentless during the xbox reveal i tried to submit a legit article about the new info revealed after the show but it was instantly failed by an admin claiming it was "old" but at the time the xbox reveal literally finished 10 minutes ago and there were no duplicates how on earth he can claim its old i will never know. i looked on his profile and he failed somewhere around 25-30 xbox one article and approved 4. the 4 he did approve had something positive about the xbox one. this all happened like 10 minutes after the conference

MS...here's the thing.

You could call me a very loyal follower in regards to xbox gaming. But...if what Harrison is saying is indeed true, you have lost a 10-year fan of xbox.

If this isn't true, get up off of your asses, hold an emergency meet-up or whatever and clarify all of these grey areas. Or I swear...you've lost me.

MS lost a lot of people with this move if it is indeed true.

Majority of the games I played this gen were multi-platform anyway. I never really cared for CoD dlc, Halo, Gears, PGR, Forza and Fable that much. Guess MS just made the leaving easier.

If Xbox One fails, MS is done. They have no backup plan and the only other market they've been pushing is in the tablet buisness and that isn't going too well for them either.

of all the bad they did today this is the one that will hurt the most. a lot of parents don't want their kids online and with it having to be online that's an issue. not to mention people without the net. price of the ps4 will determine this gen tbh. if its 500 I have a feeling we will see a repeat of Nintendo running away with sales for 2 to 3 years with sony catching up I the end. and Microsoft? not In the picture.

I find it amusing that rumors for both consoles were, in essence, accurate to a degree. Moreso for some than others. This always online BS and needing to pay an activation fee for used games is a nail in the coffin.

The game is running off your HDD so it will be checking every 24 hours that you have a legit copy.

Their current user is not their target consumer. They want this thing sold on the tv functionality, roll in the money from all of the subscriptions and adds. They'll try to use gamers to get it started into people's homes, then focus on everything but games.

Sh!t, I am done with console gaming. I been an avid MS and xbox supporter, as you all might already know, and try to stay positive about the new xbox, but I can't after the rumored news going from bad to worst. First is no BC, second is the used game fiasco and the back and forth hush, hush from MS about it, and now this???? I am sorry, even though I have constant internet connection, I want to take my system with me sometime to remote places that don't have internet connection fr days like what I have been doing with my xbox 360 for the past 5 years. MS has betrayed loyal gamers like me and this could be the turning point for me to go back with Sony. I am so angry right now...going to take a walk to cool off some steam.

How will this work for troops overseas with no connection? How will this work for something as simple as a game tournament competition (online connection & game install)? How will this work for my 9 year old sons room to which I don't have his connected to the internet because I don't want him playing with all the fowl mouth punks playing on Live?
