Color Commando Review | Mini Fortress

Mini Fortress writes:

"Developed by Goodbye Galaxy Games, Color Commando is a puzzle game with platforming elements. It was released just a few weeks back (April 25) on the Nintendo DSiWare service – and by default, the Nintendo eShop – for 200 DSiWare points. Unlike a lot of current games, Color Commando doesn’t feature a story; instead, the game focuses on a unique painting mechanic."

Vivid Gamer: Color Commando Review

It’s impossible to review the DSiWare game, Color Commando, fairly without considering that it’s the work of a single man with very limited resources. Unfortunately, it’s that limitation that shows in almost every aspect of the game, from its brevity to the slight lack of polish. To his credit however, Hugo Smits, creator of other DSiWare titles like Flipper and Ace Mathician, managed to make his heavily flawed title at the very least charming and colorful with a decent bit of challenge.

It looks like a cute title. Though the issues are something that would turn me off from playing it much.

Ugh, I hate when a game requires precision but the controls don't allow for it. That adds up to lots of frustration.

yeah if you're going to do a puzzle game with poor controls its going to get frustrating very quickly

4CR Plays - Color Commando

"Color Commando is the new puzzle/platforming game from Goodbye Galaxy Games. I’ve previously reviewed Flipper 2 and Ace Mathician (both released for DSiWare and currently available in the 3DS eShop as well). I bought Flipper on the day it was released, so you could say that I definitely wanted to complete my GGG set with Color Commando.

Coming from Hugo Smits, Color Commando has a similar feel to Ace Mathician. As was the case with the earlier game, Color Commando demands that you reach a reward on one part of the level (a treasure chest instead of fruit) while simultaneously trying to collect 3 items placed throughout each level (coins instead of stars this time around). A new element is also introduced into the mix – you must use paint of different colors to avoid the monsters that are out to get you. These colored monsters will block your path by either just standing there or by moving back and forth over a specific part of the level, and touching them will result in doom for our adventurer… Doom!", writes 4 color rebellion.

Color Commando Review | Wiiloveit

"Misguidedly following the same course of rationalizing its ho-hum composition, Color Commando offers to players what it believes to be hints of creativity and experimentation without actively protesting that such concepts exist. In truth, the game's design is neither amusing, nor well-maintained, and as an investment primarily catered for younger players, it ends up being too scruffy to be worth gazing at." -- Wiiloveit.com
