I appreciate new Wii U games as much as the next guy (assuming he owns a Wii U as well) but I wish indie studios would get over the retro pixel-art trend, it's getting a bit stale now.

I'm not saying this game is bad or other games with similar art styles are bad, but what was refreshingly retro a year or two ago is kinda played-out now.

I think pixel-art games have their place in history. What you see as trendy now was the highest standard about thirty years ago. Some developers love and will continue to love that style, as will some gamers. I say let that gravy train keep rolling as long as it wants to.

I think part of the reason you see this retro pixel style alot, is that's it's easier to create assests for. As opposed to having to create a full 3d world with 3d characters, objects, particle effects, lighting, etc.

A team of 1 to 2 people can make a retro styled pixel game pretty quickly as opposed to a full on 3d game.

I agree. I hate retro for the sake of it. Make some game with mediocre gameplay but make it look retro and people hype it and get excited. Not saying this game is one of those and the style fits for certain games but I'm not interested in paying 10 dollars for a 2013 release that's made with NES assets or graphics. I also hate when big publishers release a modern game in a classic series like megaman 9/10. It's not that the game is bad but honestly I can't get excited about it, your 20 years too late. Should've had HD sprites like hard corp uprising but kept the classic 8 bit gameplay because its fun. I want an 8 bit megaman with all the beautiful bells and whistles that keeps the classic soul. Those felt like cheap cash ins IMO.

Many Indy titles are not graphically intense like velocity, cave story, fez, super meat boy and more but they have a good art style other than 8 bit. They aren't done by a big team who chooses the 8 bit look to sell it. If it happens naturally and you can't program better like some one man xbl Indy RPGs cool, if your Capcom hell no! A good example of good use of retro is VVVVVV. Basic game that would've fit on NES but it didnt need shiny gfx because the gameplay was top shelf.

You have a good point but If you feel that way you feel the same way about every game released because with HD all games have similar art style. That means they all look stale. For instance COD looks like COD.

C-Wars Sends in the Mechs

Joanna Mueller writes: "Another odd change since C-Wars hit Steam Early Access has been the lack of focus on the characters and story which had featured so prominently during the Kickstarter. When asked about this, Onipunks assured backers that the characters were still around, but with some changes."

FreakOrama writes: "C-Wars was a sort of a surprise to me, it's a 2D anime retro theme pixelated rogue-like game with fast-paced action combat set in a sci-fi world.

Now at first from looking at the gameplay trailers i was confused of not know if the game's combat was real-time or turn-based, but after giving it a shot and trying it out it quickly became apparently that it was real-time combat but set in a block-based battlefield system."
