It’s no secret that Uncharted is one of, if not the, biggest franchise on PS3 at the moment. Coming out of the gate in late 2007, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune was met with success. Not amazing success, but success. The action-platformer gameplay was a breath of fresh air, but drew unavoidable comparisons with the likes of Tomb Raider, or Indiana Jones. Still, the game was a well-built, solid, fun experience. Or is it?
During MCM Comic Con London X EGX, CGM got the chance to be part of a press group interview with the stars of the Uncharted titles, namely the legendary Nolan North, who played protagonist Nathan Drake, Emily Rose, who portrayed Elena Fisher and Richard McGonagle, who took on the role of Victor ‘Sully’ Sullivan,
FreeckyCake writes: After the success of the Jak and Daxter series on the PlayStation 2, Naughty Dog decided it was time for the series to take a rest. However, that wasn't the end for Naughty Dog's career. It was merely the beginning of something big. Something that would surpass their past projects
Sometimes it feels like Naughty Dog gets unnecessary praise from gamers despite their games not having much gaming in them.
Show me one game this gen with the attention to detail U4 and Lost Legacy had. Even if you put graphics aside you still have consistently well crafted characters and really well executed storys. Also are you forgetting they've had MP in EVERY release since uncharted 2? And all of them have been at least pretty fun with TLOU's Factions being downright amazing!. I'd rather take a tightly ctafted 12hr campaign with great care and detail put into it than whatever open world gruel Ubisoft releases next. There's definitely more "game" in U4 than most other AAA games lately.
They are the best video game development team so they deserve praise.
Lost Legacy was a masterpiece in every way.. I got it just over summer and the reason is that I'm not a fan of the two girls but the game really managed to amaze me.
Wizards
for the original 4 Crash bandicoots and Jak and Daxter 1 yes they definately worth the praise ..these games are legendary....after these ,YEs they are overhyped ....Jakk 2,3 are mediocre at least ,Uncharted is a jungle Gears of war and Lat of Us is uncharted +Resident Evil ....nothing special
The fact that they are even mentioned as the best is testament to their legendary status as nobody else can claim such a title and offer even a remotely satisfactory argument to support it.
ND is simply the best. Whether someone’s individual opinion agrees or not.
I've always said this too - I think they're the best developers in the industry. Their biggest competition, imo, as of this moment, is Sony Santa Monica.
@bouzebbal
Lost Legacy is the sole reason I'm excited for Marvel's Avengers as it's done by the same director, Shaun Escayg.
Anyone who still thinks that naughty dog is an overhyped development Studio is a complete dumbass And should never touch a gaming controller again.
"...despite their games not having much gaming in them"
THAT sentence alone is already enough to proof how much a blind hater this article is.
Who the hell cares, most of us (MoUs, hehe) know what ND can deliver. Personally speaking, their games alone are reason enough for any gamer to invest in PS console....they are that good.
Have you seen the quest structure of Divinity Original Sin 2? Or the writing of Disco Elysium?
Makes U4 and LL feel like puppies.
Disco Elysium JUST came out on October 15th and you are already praising It when you probably haven't even played it, even then, you cannot just pick and choose the best part of every game developer to make your point, Naughty Dog games are the full package, are there games with better writing?, surely, better quest structure?, of course, better gameplay?, depends on the genre, but Naughty Dog is the best when you want everything in the one game.
lol are you seriously comparing RPG with U4?
sometimes it amazes me how people just hate things for the sake of it
On Topic: yes they are deserving of praise as many other studious in the gaming world. U2 changed the landscape of cinematic single player games. I really like the character animations in their games. If you see Naughty Dog logo on a game it means quality, simple as that :)
@Rpg
I always wonder why people assume that people on N4G haven't played certain games. But whatever.
@solid
i have no idea why people bring up genres when it comes to story-telling or certain objective aspects of game design. Objectively speaking, both DoS2 and Disco Elysium have better narratives and use the medium- video games- to the best possible extent. Uncharted is just a game with good graphics based around a passive story-telling medium (Movies)
Meh. If neither of those two games scratches an itch, what does it matter to someone if they’re pushing the medium to the best possible extent? It’s like classical music vs rock’n’roll, except now it’s RPG dad and Uncharted is the Marshall stack shaking the dishes lol.
"More game" I can literally name more than 100 games that are more gamey/have more gameplay functions but okay. It's the opposite. Most games are more "game". You barely have any variety and gameplay options that's different from other games. Their games definitely have more polish but they're much less in terms of gameplay.
Their games have the amount of game play to achieve what they were going for. It sounds like your expectation for what your getting is different than what the dev is trying to deliver. Its like complaining that it doesnt have RPG leveling elements when it is a casual style third person shooter.
They dont have to try to shove everything into a game just because it exists elsewhere. There are plenty of.games which try to do that, and they become a convoluted mess of half executed ideas.
U4 is a visual stunner, but the gameplay is BORING. So repetitive gameplay. I'll take an open world adventure any day. Can't wait for the politically correct and boring TLOU2.
Yeah would you happen to know if the last of us is just as repetitive also? I have only played Uncharted 2 and that is what turned me off also. Everything was excellent except the gameplay funny enough. If only more of the battles would have been as fun as the mk19 jeep battle then Uncharted would probably be my favorite game series instead of Metal Gear.
Haters gonna hate you can see the dislike some section doesnt appreciate them but who cares. ND are One of the best and the games they release has top notch details and have been rated the best by alot of gaming sites and analysist..
You can already see some hate but they are just salty... LOU2 will release next year 21st Feb and it will be a masterpiece and such people will still be salty..
LOL. RDR2 and it's not even close. Although Rockstar Games has many more employees and $$$
They are great at visuals and good at stories, but they're not the best at making gameplays.
Also, they're lately forcing some propaganda in their games, so I hope they'll be screwed by fortune sooner or later.
(dislike button intensifies even though you know I'm stating truth)
Rise of the Tomb Raider and Shadow of the Tomb Raider. If these two games had of been PlayStation exclusives, the gaming media would have said that they were two of the best games this generation. Too much industry politics perpetuated by the mainstream gaming media, is why Naughty Dog can do no wrong.
People should remember how this trend was the complete opposite, way back when the gaming media praised everything Xbox 360, when most people knew that PlayStation 3 had the much better hardware, and actually really had great games. I have always liked Naughty Dog, but the worshipping from extremist Playstation gamers and the gaming media alike, has gotten dangerously out of control.
“ Rise of the Tomb Raider and Shadow of the Tomb Raider. If these two games had of been PlayStation exclusives, the gaming media would have said that they were two of the best games this generation”
You do know IGN just name dropped Rise of the Tomb Raider as one of their top 100 games of all time, right? The only TR to make their list (even though I personally preferred Shadow). What more do you want? We’re talking about Jonah and Trinity here.
Very over rated. The games to me are noting special. Nintendo games are far better.
Many studios are famous for their own respective genres e.g.
Rockstar/CD Project Red: Big open world games
Blizzard: Action (strategy) RPG
Bungie: FPS
Square Enix: RPG
Polyphony/turn 10: Racing
You get the idea...Naughty Dog perfected cinematic third person action games with U2. Animations in their games are top notch and gameplay is tight. Remember they made crash/Jak, from these games to Uncharted to The Last of us is huge accomplishment. No one should deny that. Many studios remain in their comfort zone and make similar type of games but Naughty dog changed the formula and I commend them for that :)
They are deserving of every single praise just like other studios.
What a trash article trying to say ND games don’t have gameplay lol that troll attempt died like ten years ago
Why must people get so offended and respond like they are being attacked when their opinion doesn't align with someone else's? What planet did you come from, who raised you people, a pack of snowflake liberals? I don't get it, you can no longer have a discussion about anything these days with someone who has an opinion that sits on the opposite side of the spectrum. What happened to having a civil conversation/discussion about a topic.
I love Naughty Dog games but I can also get where the writer of this article is coming from. See how being a mature adult works... Somebody has an opinion that does not align with mine, do I need to lash out and name call, no we can discuss and elaborate civily and try to see from the other perspective. Like I have said on other post, what some like others do not, and vice versa. Does not make either side right or wrong, just different strokes for different folks . The majority of my friend's list on Ps4 and Xbox mainly play Multiplayer FPS games.Majority of my PC friends list plays 2D side-scrolling and RTS/Moba style games. Naughty Dog or any great story-driven experience just does not interest them what so ever. I am sure there are other groups just like mine, but then you have groups that love sitting in parties together and running through a single-player experience together. No need for ignorance... You would think some of these children get a check from Sony every month for the cheerleading they do, dear lord.
You were too busy on your soapbox to address the topic. All those words and nothing substantive.
ND deserves praise for making good games. That’s it.
Has nothing to do with librals, snowflakes, being a mature adult, or what you like vs what you dont. It's about giving credit where credit is due. If you don't like it thats fine, but to say their popularity is only built on overhyped falsifications, and that there's "not much game" to a teams work who obviously aims for the opposite with added cheats, render modes, character skins, and game modifiers, add fleshed out MP modes on top of all that with none of that behind a paywall. I'd say it has PLENTY of "game". People are bothered because the team works hard and it shows, and this guy comes along and claims it's half assed, and it aint
Here’s an xbox fanboy in disguise complaining about something that dies not exist. Literally nobody is doing any of that and here you are telling us what your friends like.
Ummm thanks?
Because we know that this is thinly veiled rage bait, game journalists do it all the time now because it's the most reliable way to get traffic. Furthermore, "exclusivelygames" purports to be above this sort of practice, so it's especially worthy of eyerolls.
In my opinion the writer's opinion sucks and in my "opinion" his "opinion" is wrong. so why are you attacking my opinion?
some people are just anti popular... Its their way. Some just love the attention under the guise of counter culture and rebellion. If you cant even praise or at least respect the effort and execution put into the whole package then not much more can be said. Everyone doesn't have to agree with anyone else's opinion. Accept that if something is attacked and people disagree there will likely be some kind of defence. Its not rocket science.
It's pure fanboying. I don't see any counter arguments brought forth from the the people cheerleading. It doesn't matter what game is being dismissed, they always bring up the awards or review scores as validation when that's not their own opinion but somebody else's. Other then that you'll see the typical "Trash article," "Shit opinion," or they'll just dismiss you as not having played the games even if you have beaten it. Even then they'll fall back to another scapegoat to defend it. I think both Halo 4 and 5 are terrible and BOTW is very Ubisoft in design structure, and I didn't have those opinions going in to either of those games. I expected some great masterpiece given the amount of awards, scores, and fanboying over both of those. All I got was a shallow repetitive experience in BOTW, and I found out I'm not the only one who has that opinion. But you cannot say this in the open lest you attract certain people who need to defend it. It's no wonder everyone shares the same opinions on many sites. Because the fanboys just scare off the ones with different opinions, so all that's left is one group.
Kind of makes sense to bring up awards and general consensus when that's intrinsically linked to the topic at hand. We are talking about if ND is overrated or not.
That's not your opinion, that's using someone else's as validation instead of reviewing it on your own. You can form an opinion that's different from the masses, but most people are discouraged from doing so because of other people scolding them, putting them down, or just using the voting system against them.
Speaking on ND, I do agree they are very good at presentation and their technology and attention to detail is incomparable to most others. However, there are some things they've done I don't agree with and I don't like the Senior writers attitude and approach to writing. I still remember in Last of Us 1 they talked about how much better the AI was for Ellie and the enemies then the E3 reveal demo, coming to launch, only to find out they just made Ellie invincible and unseeable by enemies, and the enemies are even worse by comparison. That Last of Us 2 demo they showed was scripted and the interview after it was shown had them literally admit it was all coraled and controlled to get a clean demo, but articles still popped up asking if it was scripted and people attacked anyone who pointed it out. Even when your leads directly tell you the truth people still attack others for showing negativity towards them. I don't care if it was scripted or not but you can't just spread misinformation to others. That's exactly what they mean when they say "overhyped" in this instance.
For someone trying so hard to call others immature or shame them as being a piss poor human being, your comment comes across as immature, and your attitude is pretty piss poor.
Also, what does disagreeing with a topic like this have to do with one being a liberal or conservative? Naughty dog is praised almost across the board, so I'm sure regardless of one political slant, I'm sure they could find something to like about the games. Or are you saying that conservatives cant like ND games?
People may not even be offended, as just expressing disagreement is not being offended, just expressing a counter opinion.
Now...do you think ND is overrated? You didnt bother to mention in your comment
Often those who shout the loudest that have nothing nutritional to say... All dude is ragging on about if what he believes others base their praise off.......Like nobody played the games. From his words I'd say he feels GOW is overhyped
Different opinions are just fine and welcomed. Baiting articles are not opinion pieces. This article is not opinion it is bait designed to get people in an uproar. Personally, I'm not biting and I will praise whomever I choose.
The quality of Naughty Dog is second to none. Plain and simple. I can't say any of their games make it into my top 5 or possibly even top 10. However, it's clear as day how much work they put into their games. How much attention they have for the smallest details. They are meticulous, and it ALWAYS shows. Even attempting to say they're somehow "overhyped" is laughable. They 100% deserve every bit of their praise. They might not make the type of game you want to play. And that's fine. Doesn't detract from the fact that they're still top-notch on every level.
Their games not having any “game” in them is nothing but a fallacy. There’s tons of game in Uncharted and TLoU. Not everything has to be a platformer to be a game
i think the praise is all well deserved.
the only thing i don't like of today ND is that they have some agendas, but it's just me and a little complain.
Once you finish uncharted 4 and a follow on scene where you control nates daughter on the beach house the visuals are utterly amazing the attention to details is mind blowing
Trash headline. They deserve praise and should be critisised. They are not overhyped
They're constantly pushing the envelope of what's possible in gaming, of course they're worth praise. When consumers know that any game they release will not only be great, but a GOTY contender, I'd say the hype is fair.
The latter. Their games don't appeal to me at all. I tried playing The Last of Us on PS4 again through ps plus and I can't get past the intro it's so slow and boring to watch through again. Their games are simply one and done for me and lack variety and innovation. Meanwhile RE2 which I'm playing recently wipes the floor with it.
So ones a slow burn story with background story and ones an action game.
The cheesey dialogue of RE2 doesn't make you laugh? I enjoyed both, but a re clearly going for different markets.
Maybe if you didn't have focusing problems
Guess you need constant flashing to keep your attention
RE 2 requires thinking, unlike button mash square. Nice try though. I've already played The Last of Us on PS3, it's definitely a good game but far from a great one for me.
2009-2013-2016
10 years, 3 times as the most awarded game of the year, more than any other studio this decade! Yup, looks overhyped, right !?? ND is one of the few 3 star Michelin restaurants of videogames.
Another note: Last of US, UC 2, UC 4, each of those games have more awards than all xbox studios put together... yeah, each individual game got more Goty awards than all games made by the current Xbox studios!
source: https://gotypicks.blogspot....
Bethesda has also won 3 times. 2006, 2008, 2011. But if you strictly consider this decade then yes you're correct.
exclusivelygames.com: onto something? or just terrible ideas and nothing real to say?
They do deserve the praise. The Uncharted campaigns are amazing and U2 was my favorite from the series. The multiplayer was amazing and so fun. The Last of Us is a masterpiece. There are a very few games that made an emotional impact on me like the TLoU. Part 2 will be amazing and I cant wait. The truth is that whenever I see that Naughty Dog logo, I think of great quality.
Deserving of Praise. Have always very much enjoyed their games.
The Last of Us resonated well with me and made me care for Ellie & Joe in a way I rarely feel for video game characters. Looking forward to part 2.
The question on the subject tells me you know nothing about Naughty Dog.
ND, along with many PlayStation first party studios, deserve all the success they have because of their work.
There's 1000s of games out there to play, pick one and praise it. Naughty Dog brings the quality. Last of Us feels like a game to me. So does Uncharted 4. So does Bloodborne, So does POE and so does every game I have played whether I like them or not.
Why is the writer worried about someone else's success in gaming?
ND, Insomniac, Santa Monica studios easily the best developers in the world. It’s usually the butt sore PC master race that disagree. Because they spend silly amounts of money on Graphic cards each year. When really talented devs are pushing the boundaries on existing console tech. God of war might look slightly prettier on a pc, but the game game remains the same regardless.
I have a problem when any game by anyone gets as much hype as Naughty Dog gets. It is as-if it is a "Game of the Year March. Meaning it is already game of the year before anyone has really played it. I think all games should be assessed on their merits by gamers when they are actually released, not before when know one has actually played it.
But, that said, last year when I saw the gameplay for The Last of Us II I was very happy with the game and thought it looked to be amazing. I am definately going to pick this game up.
I think they just built a reputation for making goty contender level games. I mean, I'm not one to claim goty before i ever played a game, or even seen much about it to form a objective opinion, but since the first uncharted, they've only released one game that hasn't won copious awards, dwarfing almost every other game or studio out there. Some of those awards are from the industry itself, many are from the community, most are from the press, so it's not like it's just some fluke that everyone wants to jump on the bandwagon.
I'd be more surprised of ND delivering a bad game over delivering a GOTY contender/winner. They've just earned that respect and faith
I don't align with their social views of late but credit where it's due, they make great video games.
Depends on what you want out of a video game I suppose.
#1 Do you want identity nonsense & social engineering infused in your games?
#2 Do you want a good story & good characters & want to play a movie?
#3 Do you want engaging gameplay & wish you could skip the cut scenes?
unskippable cut scenes suck. Cut scenes are fine the first time through but after that they just get in the way of the gameplay. #3 FTW.
Way too hyped at this point not saying they are bad but its fanboys go way overboard
‘Way too hyped’... after making critically acclaimed games? I’d say it’s warranted.
I'm not one that tends to get overly excited about stuff, but ND has built enough faith with me to be excited for their games.
If that's me being overhyped, so be it. But it's for me to decide how excited I should be for something. If others feel the same way, that's on them. If they feel differently, that's fine, just dont get upset if you dont change peoples views by making declarative statements of your opinions as if they're fact
PlayStation fans love their 2st party studios, we get excited for their output. Not just a game - a Studio.
ND, SSM, SP all these studios have to do is announce a title new or sequel and automatically Sony fans are buzzing with excitement.
The reason is they have built trust with their community for delivering high quality titles at industry leading standards.
No hype is misguided when it comes to Sony's 1st parties - it's all completely justified.
Ask that about any gaming company that gets praise for the games that they've made. I bet you won't.
This is nothing but a click bait article to get people riled up, and the trolls a reason to dog talk Naughty Dog.
I like Naughty Dog games. But I think the article makes a good point. Uncharted and Last of Us or more story-centric than ND's previous IPs. The writer of the article claims that Naughty Dog is a great company, so clearly most of the backlash is from people who only read the headline, and didn't read the article. However, I think TLOU is massively overrated. The game is so unrealistic. You can't pick up enemy weapons most of the time, if you fail in stealth choking a zombie it's an insta-death, and who in their right mind would choke out a zombie? That is literally the worst possible way to approach a creature that bites and infects you.
Except each if their successive releases keeps getting bigger. They also keep adding to their formula of TPS games, so while I agree they are making the stories bigger and deeper, it doesnt mean they're taking away from the game.
I personally feel ND has found a good balance between cut scene and game play, although some of the early ones in UC4 were gratuitous or ran longer than they needed to. But they were nice scenes with characters we've come to like over the years. The only cut scenes that bothered me in their games were ones you had to watch repeatedly after difficult parts of the game and the autosave was right before the scene. TLOU had a few of these. These were short ones. Their more recent games you've been able to skip the longer scenes.
The preview said "Sometimes it feels like Naughty Dog gets unnecessary praise from gamers despite their games not having much gaming in them.
That's all i really need to hear to realise the article is not worth reading
Didn't realise not 100% realistic was a bad thing
but i agree, i got shot and I was ok later, i should be limping for the whole game
and retry options? no, i should be dead in game forever
If i leave the game for 24 hours Joel should get tired
It’s called a change in genre. A genre that has sold in the millions. The customers are obviously happy.
Naughty Dog are the best developers out there in my opinion. But everyone’s got their opinions.
Seems any time Naughty Dog has a new game coming soon we get these articles trying to downplay their accomplishments and praise.
Your agenda is showing.
I play all their games but this last one I was feeling fatigued. The current formula needs to change up.
Boring day huh? This is like asking: "Air, deserving of praise or overhyped?"
Wow. Not much gaming in a ND game? I can understand that people may not be attracted to the story, but to say that the game play is shallow is really just derailing your argument before it starts.
Just because they dont cram 200 options into the game play, doesnt mean what they have isnt usually some of the most solidly executed gameplay on the market.
Hey just finished Last of us and it was amazing ! Also played U1-U4. All great games. Definitely they are not overhyped. They are simply excellent.
A cynical and negative article from Exclusively Games... But what else could you expect from a website by Jeremy from The Quartering...?
I have an Xbox One X (used to have a PS3) and they are definitely worthy of praise. I have played Uncharted 1 and 2 and Last of Us on my friend's Playstation. Loved those games and I am thankful they are pushing the industry in the right direction 👉
While Crash was definitely amazing for the time, it hasn't aged well like, say, Nintendo platformers of the same time have (for the most part). And, honestly, the Jak and Daxter series became more and more a product of identity crisis with no real focus as the series moved forward. That said, Uncharted and, even more so, Last of Us, are fantastic games. I say they deserve any praise they get as of today.
Just thought I would share my opinion.
Played Every Uncharted and TLOU plus Crash etc.
Every game plays different as expected.
All the games run well and play well. Not just the characters bringing you into the story, but the animations and the banter and the atmosphere is where it's at. Then you have the shooting mechanics, physics and they are one of the best devs there is.
For me personally i'm stick and tired of people waffling on about Open World. They get boring fast. GTA is probably the best of them in that regard although that game has a decent story line throughout and mp.
The pacing in all Uncharted games even the spinoff's is perfectly paced.
I've played through many of those games tons of times because they are made so well.
I'm currently playing through the free psplus version of TLOU after playing it tons of times before. Because it's entertaining.
@naruga
Uncharted is Nothing like Gears of war Gears is a good game, but the mechanic's are different. There is no jumping and climbing. Only thing that they have in common is cover. The running animation of gears makes me feel sick as it's awful and should never have been released in that state.
Resident evil is Narrow corridors and stuck in tight places with magic places you can go to store stuff and monsters are not allowed in.
TLOU is more open, has more crafting tactics that are your choice in the moment, Multiple enemies and range of weapons. Stealth is a big part of it as is the story.
TLOU2 can't come soon enough for me.
this author knows how to get the clicks for sure. of course they are worthy of praise and hype... so naturally gaming journalists hype up their games, this is generally what happens with anything, including sports teams that are very good.
The only people who think that Naughty Dog games are "overhyped" are people who have never played any Uncharted or TLOU game.
Overhyped beyond belief. The only reason they are recognised as a big studio these days is because Sony pumped money into them at the start of last gen. The PS3 was struggling for viable genuinely eye catching first gen games in its early days, and Uncharted filled in the gap by being a action Tomb Raider clone that was nothing special, but got the attention because, well, there wasn't much else for the PS3 at the time, was there?
Now, downvote me away.
A little overhyped from a gameplay standpoint. They have the set pieces, graphics, and story down pat.
Well they have only released games that get really high review scores from both reviewers and gamers alike. And all there games sell millions of copies. I dont know what kinda metric to go by if that doesnt deserve praise!
Show me another dev on the same level of detail, quality and consistency, there isn't one.
There is always someone who is top of their field and ahead of the crowd. ND are.
Their highlights are Jak and Daxter and Uncharted. The Naughty Dog team I loved is not even really in the mix anymore. I could care less about their post apocalyptic tween drama flicks.
I hope this is the worst joke that comes across N4G...
They are complete Masters At what they do..........
I'm not giving any more detail come if you play their games then this shouldn't even be a real question. The fact that you would even use overhyped is reason for me to believe that you really don't appreciate the value in which high quality games Developers like Naughty Dog put into their work.
Your comedy career is over
show me one game which is super detailed and story rich. good gameplay, and not having to fork out extra money for mobile phone free to play liked micro transactions. please don't say jedi: fallen order... coz what kind of microtransactions in it we all still don't know. EA lied to us about no microtrasactions for years..
ND was never an overhyped studio. Their impressive resume will attest to their legendary status in the gaming industry.
I agree that a lots of their games can get overhyped and that reviewers are more forgivable when judging their games.
But Naughty Dog does deserve to be praised.
The track record since Playstation 1 is spotless.
On all platform since then, they have made a legacy game that is defining the platform (Crash bandicoot, Jak, and Dexter, Uncharted and Last of Us)
Naughty Dog games fall into the category of even if you dont like them as a gamer you should be able to step aside and say "Damn that's awesome." So no they are not overrated. They talent in that company is second to none.
I don't know, Uncharted is one of my favorite series and recently playing through the Nathan Drake Collectuon, it holds up really well! So I'd say they deserve some praise.
Both.
Amazing developer, but Last of Us in particular is crazy overrated. Still a solid 9/10 but far from TeH bEsT gAmE eVeR mAdE.
I love this developer and The Uncharted series and The Last of Us are amazing games. Story and Game Engine are some of the best in the world period. They deserve every bit of praise they get.
Overrated is such meaningless, ill-defined term so much so that there is no point in even bringing it up. The author should have just said his opinion of NDs games and left it at that.
They produce quality games, however, recently, they have been trying to push certain social agendas that has no place in video games. In addition, they have proven them self in certain genre, jumping, climbing, etc... for example, you always have this feeling of uncharted when playing the last of us.
I would say over rated, until they prove themself in a different genre.
Naughty Dog is the studio that always delivered and the studio that all of those shitty third party studios from big 3rd party publishers like EA, Ubisoft and Activision should learn from... Those guys care about making good games and what sadden me the most is that fact that those shitty big publishers have amazing studios and great talent but they are like slaves who just receive orders... Naughty Dog deserve all the praise and the same goes for studios like CD Projekt Red that constantly try the best for the fans...
Seriously the same stupid pov as Kojima haters. They make some of the greatest games ever made.
Have a bit of respect ffs.
i used to think they were pretty overrated but TloU and UC4 changed my mind.
i dont have list but i could see them easy being a top 5 developer
Playstation fanboys tend to overrate things. Uncharted esp. is an over-hyped franchise. The Last of Us was actually a phenomenal game though. The gameplay in Uncharted is so basic.
"despite not having much gaming in them"
What?
no need to click this if that's the amount of stupidity in the title
tlou was a bit more cinematic sure
but uncharted was mostly gameplay
I think the original Uncharted trilogy on PS3 is a bit overrated and with flawed ground mechanics. But they certainly were impressive nonetheless back when they came!
Every single game they put out is one of the top GOTY winners by count every single time. This isn't really up for discussion. When they receive all the accolades that they do, you just have to realize you are one of the few that just doesn't like it, and that's your right.
I don't like playing multiplayer shooters or JRPG games... but I don't try to put them down. It just isn't my thing.
No one in the industry gets even close to Naughty Dog as far a story telling goes, maybe Santa Monica studios with GOW came close. Most videogame stories feel like B movies at best. TLOU felt like a film and IMHO could be nominated for an Oscar.
The updates in the animation system of TLOU2 look like an evolution from the first and seems to increase the immersion in the world. Looking forward to the new Jax on the PS5...
Deserving. I totally overhyped TLOU since their were only rumors about the game and it over delivered. The Uncharted series were some of the first games I felt like I was watching a movie and not just playing a game. Their production value and attention to detail tower over most in the industry. Uncharted 4, a game that was designed for the base model ps4 and came out early in this console generation, to me still has the best graphics I've ever seen on console (running on a PS4 Pro).
Naughty dog is a very very talented and beloved studio that have consistently delivered some of the best games across the last two generations.
I think the shortcomings of the actual mechanics in their games are overlooked due to the overall quality of the package being so high.
In short, they do deserve the praise they are giving and I really really do appreciate them consistently pushing the story telling and visual envelope. aside from some of the wacky final bosses in the UC games these guys are amazing at building immersion.
PS all this is coming from someone who games on Xbox primarily. :)
Naughty Dog has proven themselves so quit trying to revive this statement to slyly downplay their achievements. Let's focus on new developers and let those people work in peace.
Its such and over rated series that uncharted 2 is the most award winning game this gen but the 3 games were terrible i get what your saying..... /facepalm
MINOR SPOILERS BELOW
"we get to play as a teenage Nathan Drake! [...] And this segment adds absolutely nothing to the story, aside from showing how Sully became Nate’s lackey!"
You definitely know NOTHING about storytelling.
" I’m not sure just what type of crack the writers were smoking at this point in the game, but as they learned the hard way, “Zombies!” doesn’t instantly improve everything (contrary to your typical 15-year old PS3 gamer’s opinion)."
This sounds like a shot at the recent zombie popularity and let me say this first. Zombies weren't even popular when Uncharted released, in fact most people had them in the back of their minds.
"I also love how Nate gets riddled with bullets, but Jeff (RIP) gets shot with one and bites the dust."
Cause maybe Nate is use to this stuff already, whereas Jeff was a camera guy who rarely seen this stuff in person. Oh and it wasn't one bullet that killed him, He was shot, you had to carry him through the level, and then lazarevic shoots him right in the head.
Also with the "unrealistic thing", yea no duh, the game was never suppose to be. A mix of realism with supernatural elements was always the idea since the first game.
"We can now loot your favorite museum as a teenager! And this segment adds absolutely nothing to the story, aside from showing how Sully became Nate’s lackey!"
Did this guy even play the game? They explain that whole scene right in the scene -_-, in fact it's the explanation to as to why Nathan is even treasure hunting still in Uncharted 3.
