Gears of War - No Pre-Release Demo

You will be disappointed to hear that there is to be no Gears of War demo out before the game's 'emergence day' on the 17th November

Regarding the rumour of a pre-release demo, Rein posted on the official GoW forum, "It just isn't true. There is no demo coming out before the game ships and I have no idea if we'll do one after the game ships or not. Right now there are no plans to do one…"

isnt the point of a demo to try the game out and see if you really like it?

i know that developing a demo is a totally different aspect, and may take time away from actual game development, but jeez.

i really dont want to play a demo "after" the games' release... i want to try it out 1st and then make my decision... again, isnt that the point?

THE GEARS OF WAR TEAM HAS HAD THIS EXACT SAME POLICY ON THE DEMO SINCE THE PROJECT WAS ANNOUNCED, THEY HAVE MADE PUBLIC STATEMENTS SUPPORTING THAT POLICY SINCE THAT TIME, AND THEY HAVE NEVER SAID ANYTHING DIFFERENT ABOUT DEMO POSSIBILITIES!!! THIS IS NOT NEWS!!!!

BTW: Having a demo post-launch is pretty standard. Devs get the game out sooner and spend all their time making it great, then get the demo out afterward for people who might not have picked it up at launch, but who will be helping keep it on topseller lists for months after launch.

Eh, I don't think we need a demo to find out if this game is going to be good. We're a couple weeks from release and it's been getting nothing but rave reviews from ANYBODY who's laid hands on it.

Actually the point of a Demo is to [awake] interest and to raise awareness. In other words; “marketing”. NOT TO BE NICE TO GAMERS. Now, I answer your questions with questions. Who does not know about Gears of war? Have you heard of it? Are you looking forward to it? You don’t think it will sell every single copy when released?
Now, ask yourself if they need a demo.
As matter of fact a demo would hurt them. Why? Because Sony fanboys will not sleep trying to find anything negative to say about this game. And if they don't find anything they will make them. Giving the game bad press, and maybe stopping some from buying the game. (see The great 1 comments and you will see what I mean).

I would love the demo as I already have this pre-ordered, but yea a demo is silly and useless as it's only for marketing and this game has had the most mainstream marketing by Microsoft and just every gaming site of any game I have ever seen

demos is a horrible option for a game that will sell a lot. Remember GRAW and COD2, no demo until 3-5 months after because they knew demos would hurt AAA titles because it delays purchases and encourages people to back out.

demos should only be done with games that NEED exposure, like FNR3 which I think multiplied their sales by 8 after the demo was released.

And why? cuz FNR3 had incredible graphics at that time. And was the 1st game to truly have next-gen looking graphics. And EA wanted to show off that sh!t. They werent afraid to show there product, they wanted to show it off, and everybody took note. And Final Night doesnt need recognition, it already had alot of recognition

for the 360. I was on the fence (having not played the PC version),after playing the demo I just cannot wait! That's the power of demo versions! You cannot deny this point it's too true. Fear is a AAA release so why a demo of this title and not Gears of War ?

Dev's choice? who knows you'll know soon enough and all you have to do is not buy it. It wouldn't be Emergence Day if they had a Demo, like i said who the fucc knows. The choice is yours So stop trying to unlock the/their reasoning (secrets of the universe). A guy that played the game did say it will get repetitive to some but he only played some of the 10% of the game Epic would only release(no vehicel, no interactive movie scene and more), so don'y buy it!, or wait for the full games reviews. You people would excuse away anything on 360 that may not be the most favorable news for it. I demo would be the best thing for all gamers, period! maybe not the smartest choice for the company, but the best things for gamers. And true they are a business. But what are they afraid of? that maybe its not the greatest sh!t of earth? I for one wanna get it & cant wait to play it too and think it will be good (notice how I didnt say that I "know" it will be good). But I gotta tell you's, when I first heard how its all about taking cover and shooting from the cover, I didnt like that. But since then have had alot of those concerns subside, but I still kind of wonder if it could end up being a problem for me after all. But I guess I will find out soon enough, when its released, now when is R6:Vegas and COD3 coming out? I dont even keep track of this sh!t anymore, except as it get closer to launch date

Do you have a 360 or ever had one?, I was just asking because theres been a few AAA tittles that did not have a demo before the release of the game. It's more to do with being proud and confident in their product than being scared of somthing. From E3 and the reviews i'v read i can't figure out what you're tying to say. If Halo3 and Forza2, Fable2 ect don't have demo's before there releases it's not because the Devs are scared of somthing. lol

You are absolutly right! I also had concerns about the duck and cover gameplay. Having a demo to show me the type of play to expect would help in my choosing to buy it...instead of paying $60 just to find out IF I like it or not.

Whats you're gamer tag?. Most 360 fan are going to wait for reviews if they are not going to buy it right away. It's just kind of strange to hear nothing but good news from all the people that are playing it. It's unlikely 360 fans crying about the Demo. The same can be said about RFOM or MGS4 or Halo3 how many will be crying about the demo's for mega hits with good news buzzing from the hands on hype?.

Damn I just saw a gameshow here called Gamekings and they were reviewing PS3 and 360. They went in Japan. They were surprised, not much PS3 going on in the home country.

They showed Gears of War. And they were stunned. They said simply: there is nothing like this. Nothing that can touch it. Nothing on PS3. This one feels so special you need to have it. It'll sell systems in large quantities this Christmas!

I buy all the Mags about gaming and I do listen to the reviews but there is nothing like
finding out for yourself if there is too much of this and not of that. That is the beauty of using demo versions...nothing else will do. Once you go Demo you NEVER go back !

Your right about Halo 3....I'll just buy that sucker right out of the taped up box it comes out of. You named three games off of the top of your head that you'd buy right away no questions asked. That leaves MANY others that have fell WAY short of the quality you mentioned. This is a new franchise by the way.
