Where to for Mass Effect? Exploring Where BioWare's Epic Universe Could Go Next - AusGamers

AusGamers has put together a feature outlining five of the main Mass Effect universe races, potential storylines for each and what sort of game would work best, for the inevitable next Mass Effect title.

From the feature:

"It’s not like the game-universe is void of narrative potential though. Mass Effect nestles alongside the likes of The Elder Scrolls, Warcraft and StarCraft in terms of the breadth and depth of its lore, and if you stop and think about the various solar systems the team created and each and every planet and satellite’s back-story in relation to those... the mind actually boggles at the lengths BioWare went to, to flesh out its play-space..."

I wouldn't mind a Mass Effect where we are on a ship with many other galactic races, exploring a galaxy beyond the Milky Way, perhaps Andromeda seeing it is our neighbor, and encountering and interacting with all new species, some hostile, some not. I would enjoy this type of exploration and discovery. It was part of what made the first Mass Effect the best story of the three games, though it did not have the best gameplay. I loved both ME2 and ME3, but in saying that I would like to see ME4 return to the sense of wonder in exploration that drew me into the first game.

Legion, Zaeed, and Jack are my favorites.

To think that Bioware at some point was capable of doing games like this, you see those characters and remember them like good old friends, and now check ME Andromeda, Anthem, Veilguard etc and wonder what the hell happened.

anast192d ago

They lost too much talent.

IAMRealHooman191d ago

some in andromeda are decent, I agree with peebee and Vetra being good companions. Except Liam he's trash tier

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave439d ago (Edited 439d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.

Mass Effect 3's Ending for Javik Misses the Forest for the Trees

Based on one narratively fitting ending in Mass Effect 3, Prothean squadmate Javik is highly unlikely to return in the next Mass Effect game.

He was one of my least favorite characters. I wish they would have done the Proths different.
