The Big Wii U Games of Spring 2013

ND: This Spring is looking pretty fantastic for those that made the plunge into the Wii U. While January and February were some of the driest months ever for the Nintendo fan, our wallets were collectively emptied in March due to the triple slam of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, Lego City Undercover, and Need for Speed Most Wanted U. Now that Nintendo is back in the game, we’re set to see new releases each and every month until this holiday. Judging by what’s in store, Wii U owners are in for a treat, and more emptying of the wallets. And without much ado, here are the big games for Spring 2013...

..Did you really buy Lego City Undercover? Please just get a Playstation, a PC, even an Xbox.. There's a better world out there.

MasterCornholio2484d ago

Nintendo fans are hungry for games so this shouldn't be a surprise to you.

If you would actually look at the game and give it a chance, it is a great game. I'm not hungry for games because I have a huge backlog and I also have MH3U. But, Lego City is a great game. The humor in the game is great, the story is well done, and it's just a fun game. It might look like a "kiddy" game, but so did LittleBigPlanet and that game is amazing.

dungeonboss2484d ago (Edited 2484d ago )

Is there a reason you don't like the game? It's getting universal praise from critics and it's super fun. Just curious why you'd say that when nearly everyone who's played Lego City Undercover has enjoyed it, if not flat out loved it. It's a nice change of pace from gritty brown shooters and empty open worlds that dominate 360 and PS3.

Edit: I actually have a 360 and a capable PC as well, and yes, I've enjoyed Lego City Undercover and MH3U more than anything that's been released this year to date aside from BioShock Infinite, and even then, that's why I own more than one console. You should try it out. Broaden your horizons. You might find something you like that you dismissed before.

mcstorm2484d ago

I have to agree with you. I own all 3 consoles but I have to say I am loving my Wiiu a lot more than I thought I would and it is keeping me from playing games on my PS3 and 360.

I got MarioU, ZombieU, Tekken Tag 2, Lego City, Nintendo Land and Sonic All star 2 for my Wiiu and I am really enjoying the change from the amount of FPS and 3rd person run and gun games I have got for the PS3 and 360.

Summons752484d ago (Edited 2484d ago )

Dude bro syndrome. He thinks to be a hardcore gamer you have to only play shooters or realistic games. You can have fun with any game in truth. Loving Lego city

It's also funny how people want a GTA Lego game, finally get one and now the idea is terrible

aceitman2484d ago (Edited 2484d ago )

I'm not happy with this spring launch toki tori 2 one game released , the rest multi platform and the others with no set release date , and they really had to throw a wii game in there. Nintendo get it together I am thinking about selling my wii u.

Calm Down Sunshine2483d ago

Woah gents, chill out.

I've played the game, my little brother has it.

The problem I have with Lego games is that it feels like I've played them before... Because I have... It's just they didn't have "Lego" in front of them then. The last one I enjoyed, and still enjoy today, for nostalgic reasons more than anything, is Lego Loco.

Gibberish. Not arsed about gamer titles in the slightest, and I said nothing of the sort, you nutter.

I'm just worried that gamers are going to be left with an expensive paperweight come E3. If dev interest is low already, then it's going to drop like a rock after Sony and Microsoft detail their next generation consoles.

this article is doing its best to keep people interested in the Wiiu. they list a bunch of current gen ports and games with no release dates and even a Wii game... And they called Pikmin one of the most anticipated games of 2013. This series sold peanuts.

As someone who was interested in the wiiu this list just shows me how bad things are going right now.

Theyellowflash302484d ago

So I guess COD is the best and most anticipated because it sells the most? GTFO here freaking Pachter Jr.

xursz2483d ago

I didn't say anything about CoD. I just sensed desperation in them labeling Pikmin "one of the most anticipated games of 2013". We know that's bollocks.

Theyellowflash302483d ago

You said Pikmin sold peanuts, so it's not anticipated. So you have lead people to believe, that sales equal anticipation....

right? Why discuss the sales of the game if that wasn't the case?

profgerbik2483d ago (Edited 2483d ago )

I just will never get the majority of Nintendo fans.

If this list were on any other system I can just visualize the shit they would be talking.. I also don't get why people always immediately start talking about FPS or other more realistic games in comparison and how Nintendo is supposedly doing more? I don't think so, just the same but kind of opposite.

Yes I will play mainly anything if I find it fun but what difference is there from dismissing FPS or more realistic games from someone who dismisses more childish and less realistic games? Nintendo rehashes more casual games, the other more hardcore games.. Wow what a difference.

Just ironic is all.

Games like this release on Xbox or Playstation, Nintendo fans will hate them, talk about how they are doing nothing but copy Nintendo.. Then when these same games are rehashed just like any other series on other consoles but instead on Nintendo's, they get so much praise and a clear optimistic change in the atmosphere that you just don't see when these types of games are released on Playstation or Xbox.

Don't get me wrong people still have interest in titles like this on those systems but it isn't even funny how quickly people dismiss them just based on the system it is on, which is a huge majority of the time.

What a lovely gaming community that has built over the years, all the hardcore fans dismiss anything that is casual and all the casual fans dismiss everything that is hardcore.

To look at this from a purely analytical point of view let's break the list down.

Toki Tori 2: A decent game by all looks, but the lack of physical distribution will definitely hurt sales. According to the LinkedIn profile, they employ 11-50 employees. Not quite a triple A title but far from a single man indie studio production.

Injustice Gods Among Us: Simultaneous release across the three main released platforms, not an exclusive but a decent game to have access to.

Dues Ex: Human Revolution: Rerelease with a few new features.

Resident Evil: Revelations: Rerelease with a few new features.

Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes: Rerelease with a few new features.

Game and Wario: No release date, may be pushed back.

Wonderful 101: No release date, may be pushed back.

Pikmin 3: Sometime in Q2(Maybe), not quite a "spring" release but I'll give it to you. Still may be pushed back.

Pandora's Tower: Looks great...not on the Wii U. It's a game for the Wii that is compatible with the Wii U, but selling a system based on it's predecessor's games isn't sound business practices.

So to tally that:
Two decent as of yet unreleased games (Toki Tori 2, Injustice) that are coming to Wii U. With only Toki Tori 2 being exclusive and only then through the online store.

Three rereleases (Lego Batman, Resident Evil, Dues Ex)

Three games (which may be great quality, no way to tell for sure as of yet) that have no confirmed release dates and have a good chance of being pushed back *points to Pikmin 3*

And One Wii U game that isn't even a Wii U game and has no real place on a Spring Games of Wii U list.

Standing over here without a Wii U, I don't see much enticing me to pick up a Wii U this spring based on the new games being released.

And before anybody points back to the previous released games, if I was interested in those game I would have already picked up a Wii U (although ZombieU looks nice, just not nice enough for me to pick up a system that has no other games I am interested in.)

I seriously wonder what exclusives are so compelling on 360/PS3 right now. And that's a serious question. I own an Xbox 360 and aside from Bioshock Infinite, I haven't even turned the machine on since January. And don't list Gears of War, that's not my thing. And since everyone is so bent on not including multiplatform games, make sure you don't list any of those. Oh, and this list is only for "Spring", so you can only list games that have been confirmed for Q2 - April-June.

(I guess I should clarify, in North America, the last day of Spring is June 20, Q2 ends on June 30, so technically Q2 does include about 10 days of summer)

And I'm actually being serious. I would really like to know what exclusive, non-multi-plat games are coming between now and June for 360 and PS3.

anderssc2483d ago (Edited 2483d ago )

Way to deflect, but I will humor you. Before I start though, let me preface by saying there haven't been good exclusives for the 360(Outside Gears, one could argue) since 09.

First to the non exclusives but non Wii U inclusive:
Dead Island: Riptide
Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen
Metro: Last Light
Grid 2
Remember Me

Xbox exclusive: None

PS3 Exclusive:
Last of Us

Keep in mind this is a list of new, unreleased games on the list, removing games like Deadly Premonition: Director's Cut from the final tally.

Also keep in mind that you should not look wholly on the number of titles released but on the production values as well, things like studio history, employee count, and total budget should all be a factor to consider on these games.

Example: Comparing Toki Tori 2 to The Last of Us in terms of production values, it would take a large amount of disbelief to say that they are on equal footing.

And finally for the sake of argument, like the list the article above compiled , I will put down every game regardless of quality to have a "bigger" or more "impressive" showing.

Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge
Injustice Gods Among Us
Dead Island Riptide
Dragon's Dogma
Star Trek
Deadly Premonition
Thomas Was Alone
Metro Last Light
Fast and Furious: Showdown
Resident Evil: Revelations
Grid 2
Painkiller: Hell and Damnation
Remember Me
The Last of Us
Ride to Hell: Retribution

and finally (because I am a fan of walls of text) I will list the games that should be coming to the PS3/Xbox360 Q2 but don't have an "official" release date set.

Brother's: A Tale of Two Sons
The Dark Eye: Demonicon
Edge of Twilight
Ong Bak: Tri

dungeonboss2483d ago

Seriously, thank you. I've been tempted for a while to get a PS3, and The Last of Us definitely looks interesting. I've played through the entirety of the first Uncharted and bits of the 2nd and 3rd Uncharted games and really enjoyed those, so The Last of Us definitely looks interesting to me.

By the way, I wasn't trying to be snarky, I just really wanted to know what's coming up that's so compelling for other consoles, and I guess the real answer is that it's a sorta dry Spring across all of the consoles. Nintendo has some potential, pending that they don't push their exclusives out into summer, and Sony and MS are most likely focusing on getting their next-gen content ready, so it makes perfect sense.

At the same time, the point of this article was just to showcase some of the stuff that's coming to the Wii U. As for Pandora's Tower, well, it's worth highlighting on its own but not worth creating a new page for, so I included it at the end and labelled it as a "Bonus" haha.

Finally, Toki Tori is definitely high quality, if not as big budget as a game like The Last of Us or Bioshock Infinite (which is by far and away the best game I've played this year). I've also heard good things about Guacamelee and a few other indies coming to PSN this Spring.

Indies can't really be discredited much in 2013, as many of them (ie Toki Tori 2) provide more depth and gameplay than some of the bigger AAA titles (games like Resident Evil 6 come to mind - huge budget, sold 5 million copies which was too low and considered a failure, and only has a few hours of gameplay, and received terrible reviews.)

Anyways, thanks for the list. Many of those games fall into the "brown shooter" category and don't appeal to me personally, but there are definitely some that definitely sound interesting - especially on the PS3 (I did some quick research and also saw stuff like Dragon's Crown, which looks pretty cool)
