Game dev focus: Allegorithmic’s Substance Engine is available on PS4

Now game developers can use a customized version of Allegorithmic’s Substance Engine when professionally texturing their game assets. Substance Designer is widely used in the gaming industry by big players like Electronic Arts, Activision, Ubisoft, Square-Enix, 2K Games and Namco-Bandai.

With this engine, the console’s next-gen games can unleash run-time generation of parametric textures, allowing game developers to reduce download size, boost streaming performance and decrease loading times in their games.

This is actually really cool,.. You can basically change textures in real time with no performance drop,.. like making scene old and decaying in front of your eyes,.. 4D :)

Very, very interesting stuff. Very user intuitive. I have to wonder what sort of games you could make and how cheaply they could be made with these kinds of tools.
