From GamesReviews.com:
"We have seen various changes to the Paper Mario franchise over the past decade. Having started with turn based battles for the first few installments, then switching over to more dynamic combat in Super Paper Mario Wii, I’m happy to say that with Paper Mario: Sticker Star for the 3DS, the series has gone back to its roots and makes for an immensely adorable and memorable adventure."
It’s always hard to watch a beloved series fall on hard times. It’s even harder still when the problems holding it back are glaring and should have been as easy to spot as Godzilla stomping through a nitroglycerin plant. Alas, for one reason or another, crippling problems either manage to go unnoticed or disguise themselves as a game’s main selling point. Most often it’s a new feature that sounds exciting on paper, but winds up a disappointment in practice. Case and point, the slow yet drastic decline of the Paper Mario series.
Sticker star was horrible I hated it but I liked color splash and feel it didn't get the attention it deserved. Color splash and super paper Mario might not be like the old rpg paper Mario's but that doesn't mean they can't be fun, you just have to have an open mind
I love the paper Mario series they are not anywhere near bad games sticker star was awesome. Just because you don’t Level up like a traditional rpg doesnt mean the game sucked. get over it.
Colour splash was a fantastic entry ... Shame bugger all got to play it, one of the last great on WiiU
With plummeting sales and a fanbase becoming more dissatisfied, is it time for Paper Mario -- a once lauded RPG spin-off -- to be put to bed?
Well the last Paper Mario game has no chance of selling pass 1 million like the rest of the series has, so you could say it's dying. This wouldn't be the case if Nintendo would just listen to the fans and try giving them a sequel that built off of the original and TTYD mechanics
Until they go back to the good version of paper mario, it's already dead to me.

If you like perusing unsubstantiated E3 rumours in some dark corners of the internet, you'll have seen Paper Mario for Wii U mentioned an awful lot. Anyone fabricating a Digital Event script typically slots it in about mid-way through, also known as the Yoshi's Woolly World spot from now on - middle of the show, a big game to catch attention while not being quite thrilling enough to work as a grand finale.
