Kotaku - Like many PC gamers, I've often wished a machine capable of putting the power of a gaming rig in a portable device. Gaming laptops are lovely and have their place, but that place is often on top of a desk. After a week with Razer's new Edge gaming tablet, I realize what I really wanted was to play Bioshock Infinite in the bathroom without burning my thighs. All hail Razer, deliverer of dreams.
The Logitech G Cloud and Razer Edge could be the first of many in a new class of handheld console.
With this year looking like Xbox might have a ton of Solid games, a Game Pass windows Tablet would likely help! This year is full of GP games.
It's not going to happen, because many of these are streaming devices, and the dedicated hardware options are all too expensive outside of Steam Deck. The vast majority of people are better off just using their phone instead of a dedicated stream box, but even then mobile controllers aren't flying off the shelves.
And MS has enough to deal with selling their home hardware, they don't need to go out and make a dedicated handheld to sell themselves. Keep the focus on making good games and having consistent releases for the next several years, then this can become a conversation when the mobile hardware is easily available, powerful enough (technically we're already here), and the cost is within reason to push a mobile GamePass experience.
im not sure if MS actually wants to do that.
they're more focused on their own hardware and bringing Gamepass to Microwaves, Fridges and the likes.
i think the xbox community wouldnt be intrested in that. just a guess rly.
I am using game pass all the time through my phone with Razer Kishi. Works great. Playing in bed before going to sleep has been a great way to relax after work and dealing with the kids.
The Razer CES 2023 showcase included lots of product announcements, from the Edge handheld to the Leviathan V2 Pro soundbar and much more.
The Razer Edge is an almost mythical beast with how hard it is to find in stores. Expensive and powerful - Razer let the TPReview office borrow one for a while to do an in depth review. We've benchmarked it, played games on it and tried to find a way to use it comfortably.
It's a neat idea but the tablet form-factor does not lend itself well to PC gaming. The Geforce GT 640M LE is the current best GPU available at its power envelope and even then it makes the Edge much thicker than other tablets, results in 1-2 hours of battery life while gaming, and performance is mediocre to boot.
Maybe things will get a little better with Haswell but we're still awhile away from a good Windows gaming tablet.
1H 45 meh...with extra 70$ battery?
I'll wait for 3rd gen or so...see where it goes...for now I'm more interested in Nvidia shield...it's more portable I can emulate classic since it's android based...it's vanilla Android...and really it's more comfrotable...not as heavy and bulky looking...and since the razor is more comfortable to play at home...I can steam games on nvidia shield and still play for more hours LOL:P
ANyways, nice concept poor execution, this should've remained a prototype.
