Fatality! Do we still care about Mortal Kombat?

PS3 Attitude explore the history of the Mortal Kombat series and ask whether what we already know about Mortal Kombat 8 will turn the franchise around.

"During a conference call with investors, Midway's David Zucker has confirmed what we already knew - a next-gen Mortal Kombat game is on the way this year.

The question is, do we still care? Why is there a bigger 'buzz' around Street Fighter IV and Soul Calibur IV than Mortal Kombat?"

mortal kombat is alright same as soul calibur and virtual fighter, they are all about the same to me. Only one i really like is tekken and that because me and my friends have been playing that extremely competitively for yrs.

:/ Tekken is on the same category as virtual fighter and soul caliber for me at least. They are fighting games that are good but I really dont care about. To me the elite fighting franchises are Mortal Kombat and Street fighter.

yes we do, what sort of question is that?!!

MK_Red3969d ago

Agreed. And seriously... they ask "Why is there a bigger 'buzz' around Street Fighter IV and Soul Calibur IV than Mortal Kombat?"

Well, duh... SC4 and SF4 both have their teasers and trailers shown along with lots of gameplay footage and demo hands-on.

MK8 isn't even officially annoucned.
I think for a game like MK8 which isn't officially announced (Midway hasn't released an official press release), doesn't have a final name (MK8 is working title), hasn't shown one bit of pic or art, with almost no info on game except for it's engine, this level of buzz isn't bad.

Hells yeah, I'll take some good ol' Mortal Kombat anytime. I Can't wait to see what they do with the Unreal engine. Oh and yeah, the konquest mode was cheesy as hell... but there is something so likable about that particular MK cheesiness.

pwnsause3969d ago

i'll care about MK if they bring back brutality, babality and animality.

If the graphics aren't half-assed and the moves are easy to do, then bring it on.

Stupid question. Of course we do.

At least I do and do so much more than Street Fighter 4, Soul Calibur 4 and such. That doesn't mean I don't care about them but MK8 for me is much much more important than them.

Plus, while previous MK games weren't as big or great as MK2, they got some great reviews and sold rather well. Plus, both MK:D and MK:DA were named best fighter of E3 during their own years. Heck, MK:D got 8.8 from IGN and 8.5 from GameSpot. Not a bad score in my book considering their small budget compared to likes of Soul Calibur and Tekken.
