Generally regarded as one of the greatest videogames of all time, Tetris has just been confirmed as a WiiWare release.
The most exciting aspect of this update is the ability to play online against people all over the world; according to the Japanese press release up to 6 people can participate in block-based multiplayer madness, which makes us very happy indeed.
The controls are also getting an upgrade to make the most of the Wii's unique motion sensing technology, but we would imagine the standard d-pad control is available too. However, we have to admit that the allure of playing motion-sensitive Tetris is considerable.
The game is being produced by Hudson in conjunction with The Tetris Company. The release date is Summer 2008.
RunDLC posted an article on the most embarrassing ways to die or lose in video games, from getting knocked out by Glass Joe in Punch-Out!! to dying right at the beginning of Super Mario Bros.

GamesRadar writes: "Tetris! Now on WiiWare! Geometric shapes falling from the sky! Organize them in a space-conserving manner using your mystical powers of rotation! Play until your shape-pile touches the sky or your brain dribbles out of your nose! More addictive than morphine-coated potato chips! If you accosted an early Game Boy adopter in 1989 and told them that nearly 20 years later gamers would be playing the exact same game on their Super-Super-Super-Super NES, then chances are they'd believe you unconditionally. Perhaps their primitive 1980s brains would explode if you told them you could control the action with a balance board or challenge random Venezuelans to a duel in seconds, but that's another matter."
You'll love
* Timeless, addictive gameplay
* Balance board support
* Great new multiplayer modes
You'll hate
* Very basic presentation
* Controversial revisions
* Meh single-player modes
Hudson has been making some respectable WiiWare games that are actually fun and online. It is available for 1200 Nintendo points ($12 US) from the online Wii Shop Channel and is a darn good casual puzzle game for it's price. Makes a game that is more that two decades old seem like a new game and it actually got me excited about playing Tetris again.
