A review of the AMD 780G chipset - Ars Technica

Integrated chipsets might not excite the average enthusiast, but they're the platform utilized by over 95 percent of the systems sold today. AMD's new 780G is meant to earn Sunnyvale a larger piece of the integrated pie, assuming ATI's chipset can deliver. Ars Technica benchmarks the integrated chipset with World of WarCraft, Call of Duty 4, Company of Heroes, World in Conflict, and Crysis.

The Good:

• Excellent price/performance ratio
• Sets new standard for integrated GPU performance
• Crossfire functionality

The Bad:

• SB700 southbridge SATA performance still lags Intel's ICH9

The Ugly

• Current Athlon X2 and Phenom performance may artificially limit attractiveness of chipset
