Microsoft's Ballmer: We Support Blu-ray

Microsoft's CEO, Steve Balmer has confirmed that Microsoft will support Sony's Blu-ray high-definition disc format.

Speaking in Las Vegas yesterday, Ballmer stated:
"We've already been working on, for example, in Windows, device driver support for Blu-ray drives and the like, and I think the world moves on. Toshiba has moved on. We've moved on, and we'll support Blu-ray in ways that make sense."

Of course they are, they have no choice in the matter, Blu-Ray is the format of the future. Support it or get left behind.

i couldnt have said it better. its like you read my mind. its black and white who won the format war so for msfot product to still appeal to thier userbase they are forced to implement bluray in thier product.

Sony now official pwns Microsoft. No debate anymore. Every Blu-Ray player sold by Microsoft will now go into the Sony war chest. It's amazing.

Remember what people (AND MICROSOFT??) were saying about Blu-Ray last year? lol....this is so funny I can't stop laughing.

Should Sony now take Linux out of their systems and replace it with Windows, to be fair?

PS3 doesnt have the Ram/Memory required to run a MS OS.

(sometimes i feel the same about my PC...4gb)

TheTwelve3975d ago

Even if what you say is true, Sony would still go Linux.

mighty_douche3975d ago (Edited 3975d ago )

So would my PC if Linux had game developer support.

I use Windows because i HAVE to for compatibility reason's.

RJ20003975d ago

^^ Sad but true in most cases...

Guwapo773975d ago (Edited 3975d ago )

The PS3 would be able to support a Win OS. The OS found in todays PCs definately wouldn't be the same as one made for a game console.

Dreamcast ran a MS OS.

microsoft gettin blu-ray is making it harder for me to put them down lol jk but when the 360 or what it will be called comes out which system would u go to: Microsoft's 360 or Sony's PS3?

DeckUKold3974d ago

you already can just go online with linux and get Virtaul Box Windows XP right there.

MADGameR3974d ago

Go SONY! Thats right 360 fans and Blu Ray haters, I remember MS and 360 fans saying ''Blu Ray is going to fail, they are forcing Blu Ray!, Oh having Blu Ray in PS3 is a bad idea'' ROFL Now they ALL eat their words 100 fold! Goahead! Give disagrees! Hell, send me your hate mail! LOL!

sonarus3974d ago

lol for a sec i thought that was a Nazi salute

DarkSniiper3974d ago

It was a bad idea to put Blu-Ray in the PS3 in a way. The PS3 should have been a gaming console first but Sony wanted to push Blu-Ray so they put games on the back burner making the PS3 a Hi Def movie player first. It definitely helped Sony win the format war adding it though but the games where slow coming out and now the install of games is getting a little old since the Blu-Ray can't read the information as fast as a DVD drive.

The next PS3 and Xbox should both be phenomenal though. By then they should have faster Blu-Ray drives, ones that can read off the disc instead of installing a huge chunk in the trunk.

Precisely... cool, look forward 2 the day when i have a blueray drive chilling in my pc (one that doesn't cost an arm and a leg, like when cdrom's/writers came out all those years ago)

green3975d ago (Edited 3975d ago )

Any one that felt that Micro won't support Blueray must be daft. After Betamax failure Sony supported VHS.It's business and in the near future when blueray drive becomes much cheaper ,then expect a cheap add-on for the 360.
Toshiba is supporting blueray and so will everyone.

I look forward to having a blueray drive in my next laptop and an add-on for the 360.As long as they are reasonably priced

LSDARBY3975d ago

I hope Sony got their moneys worth.
