Get Call of Duty 4 to Play Better and Faster

The move away from CoD's WWII origins was met with much scepticism. Happily, fears proved unfounded, and the developers' efforts were rewarded with the best-selling game this Christmas, shifting half a million copies in December alone on various formats. Still, no one's perfect, and the devs should probably stay in their military issue flak jackets while PC Gamer ponder some of the more common technical issues you've had with the game.

I found disabling shadows and dynamic lights to be the biggest performance boosters.

For some reason, you take a big hit when enabling shadows even though they don't really, visually, make much of a difference.

I have a dual core AMD, 8800GTS 640meg video card, 2gigs of DDR2 800mhz RAM, and a SATA 3.o 160 gig HDD.

I can play the game with a resolution of 1680*1050 with EVERYTHING maxed without a hitch. Maybe the problem is peoples machines, not the game itself?

Don't have a 2-4 year old PC and expect great performance from any new game. It just does not happen.

uh... spouting off your computer numbers??

Neeeerrrrddddd!!!

JsonHenry6325d ago

My point was that in order to run new games at high settings don't expect your old PC to run it maxed.

Oh yeah, and my other point is that my e-penis is MUCH larger than yours. GARGANTUAN! : )

ambientFLIER6325d ago

But then you wouldn't be able to get online at all!!! Or have they finally fixed that?

gEnKiE6325d ago

And this is why Ive turned to console gaming.....I don't have to worry about upgrades every time a new game comes out. Ya, I sacrifice graphics but im cool with that :)

sniddles6325d ago (Edited 6325d ago )

what was the point of your post?

lol... we all said wow, if it makes you feel any better.

How about this? I have a 4 year old Barton XP3000 with a X800 that i bios-hacked to 16pipes and i can play the game at 1280 x 1024 with everything set to high, and it actually runs pretty good and i'm always in the top 3 online and i can run shadows and everything... So, that's not saying a whole lot.

The game scales REALLY well!! Just a really good job of coding and deving. IW should be very proud...

JsonHenry6325d ago

BIOS hacking FTW!! I had an X800XL a while back too. (3 year ago?) Anyway, it was a good card.

I am surprised it runs that well on your pc. How much system RAM are you running in your rig?

Will be interesting to see what sort of numbers GP users draw in come tomorrow. It is believed that this is one many have been waiting for.

Darth,

That is not accurate; this game is old, and most people who want it have already bought it. You might get a small number of subs, but we will mostly see a good influx of players(not new subs) from people with Game Pass who will try it, which is what happened with D4.

CoD: BO 6 will be the test for actual sub numbers.

darthv72341d ago

That's fair... seeing as many have been saying they want CoD in GP. My comment was more of , now that its here... what can it do. Im sure there will be other titles in the franchise that will either entice or turn off different users.

No one's buying a console and signing up for a monthly bill just to get this game to avoid buying it. That's ridiculous. Besides everyone bagged the crap out of this on release for the 4 hour campaign.

andy85341d ago

Sweet. Never got round to it on release. I'll give the campaign a go

Severly underrated game. Big improvement over 2.

Why MW 2019 is still the best looking Call of Duty to date

MW 2019 is five years old at this point and on previous gen hardware, but it is still the best looking Call of Duty game to date.

MW was an excellent videogame. They messed up Spec Ops big time, but aside from this it was a huge step in the right direction initially. Most notably, at launch it seemed to come from a very cohesive creative vision that was felt across gameplay, to story to art style/visual direction. It was also very notably written by prominent ex-Naughty Dog guys that quit almost immediately before release.

That COMPLETELY dissolved through post-launch content and the full pivot to a "cross-mode" narrative that completely obliterated the cohesion in overall story direction. Warzone then "became" the new face of Call of Duty and the franchise completely removed itself from anything remotely creatively "good". It is a pure money machine, so I kinda get why they're doing it....but I personally completely lost interest.

I would love to see Infinity Ward move off CoD and get to make their own product with full control. They clearly have some massive talent in their ranks but it's perverted by Activision's corporate interests.
