BVG signs Oblivion engine for next-gen titles

Buena Vista Games has announced it has licensed the engine and tool set used in hit Xbox 360 title The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, for use in multiple next-generation games.

Although specific titles have not been revealed, the middleware technology will be used in forthcoming games for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

"This toolset is a proven cross-platform technology that will allow our teams to fully leverage our intellectual properties and focus on our core competencies in developing for next-gen consoles such as the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360," said Mark Meyers, VP of internal studios at Buena Vista Games.

Oblivion is a good game and all but to be honest it doesn't look all that great compared to others and seems to be poorly coded. Some will say it's the large play area but remember most of that isn't loaded until you get close to it.
