Best Buy Customer Purchases $300 Hard drive, Receives Oodles of Dried Beans

From Engadget:

"No, this isn't the first time we've heard of innocent consumers snagging some new kit only to find random bits of unwanted garbage in place of the actual product, but unfortunately, we've all ideas it's not the last. This go 'round, a couple waltzed into Best Buy, snagged a "brand new" $300 hard drive and zoomed home to start packin' those platters. Much to their dismay, no HDD was found inside the box -- rather, three bags of dried beans weighed it down enough to not seem suspicious. As expected, Best Buy wasn't about to refund any money for fear that the actual purchasers could be the culprits, and while that's certainly understandable, we're quite relieved to know that a little outside intervention netted the two a $300 gift card to the retailer. We bet they'll inspect that package a bit more closely before taking it home next time (sad though that may be)."

OK, I have heard and seen some crazy and weird things in my but this takes the cake. First of all, how the hell did the beans get there ? and how wasn't this noticed until after the customer purchased it ?

I used to work at a best buy for my first job. And this story sounds like the kind of stuff employees got away with all the time

Or someone buys it, brings it home, swaps out the drive for some beans, brings it back the next day stating it's still sealed and they changed their mind, they no longer want it...

When I bought my original XBOX it was the last in stock. I ran home, opened up the box, and I had what was clearly a used, and dirty as .... xbox. It was closing time so I called the store to ensure I wouldn't have a problem the next day exchanging it. They said no problem, just bring it in. Next day they gave me a huge problem and it took them a week to even let me exchange it followed by another week before they even got another xbox in stock...

The fact of the matter is that BS happens. Be it some cheap ass consumer looking to rip off the store or some employee taking and abusing their position to get free crap. This weekend I upgraded to an Elite and opened the box right there at the counter to make sure it was a brand new unit. A lot of times I take it for granted but quite often now I find myself checking products in the store to ensure they're not only new but actually there...

I rather have the beans because of the protein and fiber.
