Microsoft claims no involvement in raid of next-gen Xbox info leaker

A few days ago we made an article which included details about SuperDaE's house being raided. At first, it was thought that Microsoft had initiated the raid on DaE's house. But a Microsoft employee says otherwise.

Microsoft recently claimed no involvement in the recent raid by Australian police and the FBI. The reason they raided his home is because of a product your making. He even said that apparently they were in contact with him and wanted to know where the leak was and how he got in, he was going through it with them until he realised they wanted him to do their job for them.

You know what's really scary... is that rumour of the NextBox having always on Internet & having the Kinect always on and MSFT watching their customers for customer reactions & data gathering.

If that rumour is true... MSFT will be watching all their customers at will and if you do something out of line then the cops could be knocking at your door when you least expect it!

then dont do anything illegal. its not that complicated. The piracy problem on 360 is attrocious... Tomb Raider was already leaked today, and GoW judgment was already leaked about a week ago. Its good the cops will be knocking on doors for illegal activities, thats their job.

Oh BTW, I have several older 360's (I fix them) but have never hooked one up. I have several PS3's & several gaming PC's, so I don't do the piracy thing.

I learned my lesson a long time ago and only purchase games after the price drops and with Steam sales, there's just no need to pirate on PC's... nuff said!

the thing about rumours is that they're... well.... rumours. everyone thought that just because sony filed a patent that the PS4 would block the use of used games, and as it turns out - the rumour was not true.

i don't think there's any truth to those rumours, either, and it's nothing more than the same useless fear mongering that was going on prior to sony's announcement of the PS4.

Is there even 100% proof that the rad happen? Because the last I knew, the only evidence was a Tweet that could have just been for publicity for the supposed master leaker.

And Microsoft could be commenting to be safe. They might not have actual proof that it happened either.

I hear you bro...rumours are just rumours and I totally agree. However, if you read my choice of words, you'd realize that I did mention it being just a rumour. But (and a big but) if those rumours might be true, that it wouldn't be cool on MSFT's part. Remember that rumour was a while ago, way before the PS4 reveal.

Want to ask why would they deny such, but then quote from them pretty much tries to dismiss the existence of the fault in their own security which lead to the leak. So I guess to admit to pushing for the search and arrest publicly would also be admitting to the fault.

In most cases its true like in the case of the PS4. However i wouldnt call SuperDaes leaks on the 720 a hype generator because with the way that Kinect is implemented with the console in those leaks it kills hype instead of creating it.

That gave me an idea. Maybe Microsoft wants people to think the the 720 will be absolutely terrible that way when they announce it, it will exceed the public's expectations by a huge margin. That could be the plan and if so maybe the 720 will be the ultimate console for the core.

This is just a viral leaked for promotion..it is Microsoft's intention to make public to believe the leaked spec was real because they have FBIs arresting the person that spilled the details. But it is a secret plan to concealed the true spec of the next xbox.

I've seen this brought up a lot. I'm not terribly sure about AU laws, but here in the US a search warrant is public record, and as such it would be pretty easy to find out if one was actually issued. Of all the sites that have covered this so far, it's really annoying that no one has actually confirmed anything, and just repost tweets. It's like the journalist don't understand a basic principle of journalism anymore.

OTOH, if MS actually responded to this, then it's likely that it did happen.

They wouldn't deny it if it wasn't true that they weren't involved, they would just say "No comment" like they usually do.

The guy who was raided was a known thief and hacker, he was probably into a lot more than stealing some supposed dev kits.

If the warrant shown in the article is the actual warrant, then it says the offense was "unlawful use of a computer". It could be possible that if this raid happened and this warrant is the actual warrant, it had nothing to do with the leaks or his attempted sale of a dev kit at all, but some other stupid thing he did. Way too much that hasn't been researched in my opinion.

The press is making this guy out to be a lot more than he really is in my opinion. I hope the whole story comes out at some point in the future, hopefully by some journalist that actually knows how to write a actual article through actual research.

Couldn't have said it better myself, people here at N4G often believe what they want to believe. If it's something that makes Nintendo and Microsoft look bad, they are all for it.

Not understanding that if there were no more Nintendo and Microsoft Sony would have free reign to charge whatever they want, and you'd have to pay it.

There are no facts for this case, some Tweets count as facts these days? I think not.
