The market appeal for such chips may be limited, especially considering Intel's mainstream 45nm Core 2 Quad processors are hitting the market soon as well, but this chip is perfect for those who want a highly clocked system with plenty of cache, while still remaining very tolerable in terms of heat and noise. The Core 2 Duo E8500 is a great chip, and while it's a bit pricey at this point, it's completely worth it in Hot Hardware's opinion.

i say get the q6600, because its second to the extreme(overall and a bit more future proof) and if you want can be overclocked to be close to or higher than the extreme.
That's a dumb comparison with the current Core 2 Duos and Core 2 Quads. Why are they overclocking the E8500 and leaving the rest at stock. That clearly defeats the purpose of a fair comparison. Sure, it appears that it can keep up with the Core 2 Extreme, but how does it compare when it is stock? Not everyone will want to overclock and surely not everyone will be able to achieve 4.25Ghz stable. Hothardware.com's credibility has just gone down the drain, IMO.
