New portable games break traditional molds

Bizarre little creatures that look like walking eyeballs and a puzzle-cracking professor may not seem to have much in common at first glance.

But they are the stars of two new vastly different hand-held video games that are winning praise for the ways they combine different genres to produce quirky new experiences.

Never been a fan of the kind of game design where you need a guide to be able to do it, some might say it's quirky but I think it's dumb.

That's why The Witness is so good, the puzzles are often confusing and very difficult but there's always a logical solution if you think about it enough.

It's actually easier for FF IX now, contrary to what the article says. The speed increase makes the game plays at x3 the speed, but it doesn't actually make the timer go faster, so it makes getting there in 12 hours a lot easier.

sure sure, but it was neeear impossible to actually get the EC2 in-time on the ps1. especially if you had the European version.

If Nintendo rolled out VC two years ago like they should have, there would probably be DS and 3DS games on the Switch by now. But yeah, I think DS and 3DS are something they should do.

VGChartz's Adam Cartwright: "Despite its somewhat anaemic lineup of backwards-compatible titles (unusual in light of the genre’s strong pedigree on Sony consoles), Vita’s selection of rhythm games is highly impressive in the modern market with genre favourites like DJMax, Hatsune Miku and Taiko no Tatsujin all present and plenty of quirky oddities like Deemo, Love Live & Persona thrown in for good measure. You’re definitely going to need to try your hand at importing to get the most of the genre here, but that shouldn’t be an issue thanks to region-free hardware and easy-to-grasp gameplay."
