Can someone please tell me if this is a turn based RPG or action?

It's action based with turn based elements. What this means is that you can move around in battle, but have to select your commands with a menu (that appear as your character's thought bubbles). You can counter attack moves, switch characters, use familiars (up to three per character), etc.

There aren't really turns, but you select moves and switch between characters. It is fast paced and fun.

I recommend simply trying the demo.

Its a mix of both. You get to choose which characters attack first and can switch up as the battle goes on but once you hit the command (whether magic, attack, defend and so forth) you get to run around the battle just waiting to use another command. The combat system is similar to Dragon age 2 from what i remember.
