"And, by now you’ve probably found out that Darksiders creator Vigil received no bids and is being forced to close down, and are wondering how nobody wanted to pick up the developer of two fantastic and critically acclaimed games. The thing is, if you look at it a bit harder, it actually makes more sense than you’d think."
Alex & Mike talk Biomutant, a game from Experiment 101/THQ Nordiq you likely have not heard of. While the AAA side of the industry tends to homogenization and imitative, cinematic presentation, “AA” games remain creative and innovative in 2021. Drawing on inspirations as varied as Dark Souls, third person shooters & kung fu cinema, Biomutant is Ratchet & Clank on acid, developed by a team of 20 people.

"Vigil Games may not be around anymore but their 2 Darksiders games really raised the bar for 3D action adventure games. Let's take a look at both titles' gameplay and worlds and see which one emerges victorious." - A.J. Maciejewski from Video Chums
Darksiders 1 is a complete game but it’s obvious with Darksiders 2 they ran out of budget after the Ice world and the game just becomes a poorly paced mess.
Played both, but enjoyed 2 better than the first. Sorry that Vigil did not get a bid, but like the article said, 2 million is a tall order for a mid-tier game that isn't promoted like a AAA franchise. So, sounds like time and money mis-management, but that is why THQ was in the mess they were in with all they games.
I am glad to hear Platinum is interested and I know they would excell in the gameplay and can envision them making DS 3 with Strife as the character and with strifes main weapon being guns, I think based off Platinums handling of guns in gameplay of Bayonetta they would pull it off. I would worry about story and most of all Art Direction. Who could they put in charge that could stay consistent with Joe Mad's art style or would they go a different route on graphics?
I'd love to see Epic pick up Darksiders.
The art style is something they already do well, and over the top weapons are almost an Epic trademark.
They also have the funds to promote it in a way that would generate many sales.
Hate to be a killjoy but like Rayman and Bayoneeta it will just be moving to another developer where people still won't want to play it. No one cared about it now so what makes you think anyone will care about it later? People just don't like these games and giving it to someone else especially Nintendo won't revive them. They are giving away stuff they could even sell much of themselves when they weren't going bankrupt. What makes you think that someone else taking them will make that much of a difference? Just because I hand you something that never worked out doesn't necessarily mean that someone else will make it work.
