How GameStop’s 500,000-Strong Wii U Wait List Number Became 320,000 Sales

Kotaku: Back in mid-November, just before the Wii U was released, mega gaming chain GameStop said they had some 500,000 people on a waiting list to get the Wii U. That sounded great.

Last week, GameStop told investors that, through November and December, the mega chain sold 320,000 Wii U's.

Never buy from Gamestop. Games go on sale cheaper than their used prices.

What does that have to do with WiiU?

the pre orders were high but once ppl seen what it does & how it does it, they decided to wait until nx Sony/MS system gets shown.. wii u is cool for nintendo but i dont think its worth getting just yet

once people saw the underwhelming visuals, they decided against it, i know i did, i expected native 1080p and zero jaggies for all games, what i saw was the same old, sub-hd and jaggies and bad framerates of the ps3 and 360....no thanks, had that for the last 8 years

i'll buy a wii u eventually, when there are a ton of games for it and its $199 or less, thats all its worth, its a last gen console like ps3 and 360

next gen needs to be AT LEAST on par wih a pc from 4 years ago (meaning 1080p @30-60 frames with 4x aa), if ps4 and nextbox still have jaggies and 720p graphics, i'll pass on those too until they have a huge software library and the price is WAY cheaper and all the manufactoring bugs have been worked out!

How did you expect to see native 1080p visuals on brand spanking new hardware? Especially when the hardware was changing in the less-than-a-year of time in which these games were in development?

Seriously, HOW did you expect that?

landog2563d ago

well, its 2012, pc's have been doing 1080p since 2005 at least, just kinda figured.....ahhhhh...what am i saying......its nintendo

the wii u is ok, and im sure it'll have great games one day.....but im in no rush to get something that displays games worse than my pc did in 2005, i'll get one in a few years for $199 with a game and way bigger hd and better cooling ect...ect....

if it aint cutting edge than, imo, theres no rush to buy it, its a downgrade in everyway from what i had 8 years ago

again, if nextbox and ps4 push out lowly 720p and still have jaggies, gonna pass on those too for a long time

Qrphe2563d ago (Edited 2563d ago )

Do you expect them to pull off 1080p games later on with the same level of effects then? Because that is not happening.

vallencer2563d ago

Not really. It's a fudged number. People could wait list both consoles so a lot of stores pushed that so realistically 500000 people isn't really 500000 people. It turns more into 320000 people.

The pre orders where high from all the resellers looking to make a quick buck. When they found the demand wasn't there they returned the systems, or didn't bother to pick up any systems they had on hold.

Did u return urs?

Kamikaze1352564d ago

I bought it a week after it released and regret it. Mario was a lot of fun and Zombie U is decent and Nintendo Land was fun as well. I also really like the gamepad. However, the cons far outweigh the pros at the moment. The interface is slow, the eShop UI is absolutely horrible and makes finding things more difficult than it should. Also, there arent many exclusives announced worthwhile foe 2013 so far besides Pikmin. The ports also arent as good as they should be.

I love my WiiU and have been enjoying Blops2 a ton!

Kamikaze1352563d ago

That's awesome. I'd rather just play that on PC if I was interested in playing it.
