Can the Alliance Save PC Gaming? Mark Rein on PCGA

Enter the PC Gaming Alliance (PCGA): a collection of individuals representing the biggest companies in PC gaming who've charged themselves with promoting the PC as a platform to rival any console. So does PC gaming need saving? The PCGA doesn't think so.

Tom's Games sums up PCGA's real missions and interviews Mark Rein, Vice President of Epic Games, after the PCGA briefing at GDC to ask some questions about his choice to join the PC Gaming Alliance.

a pc union without Valve is like a console dev union without EA

Steam is basically the PC gaming network

No they need Blizzard.

And why is this in the ps3 section? This should be pc exclusif section

Valve and BioWare are not in the alliance because their publishers (EA) is not in it. I'm surprised EA is not in the alliance, given that their Sims franchise dominates the PC game market together with WoW.

Most of the best games are on ps3 this year so i personally wont need a pc for gaming. i would have to spend $700+ at least to make my pc like ps3. however, some of my most fun gaming experiences were on the pc with games like counter strike, etc. but now that there's free online gaming on consoles (wii,ps3) I can play all my fps on the tv online. I dont really want pc gaming to die and it probably wont completely die. but at least we have alternatives. btw steam rocks

Hm. Where did you hear Blizzard's StarCraft II + World of Warcraft: The Lich King and BioWare's Dragon Age (= Baldur's Gate III) are coming out on the PS3?

Those happen to be the TOP THREE 2008 games on a lot of people's lists, and they won't be on the PS3.

"if you sell 80,000 a month for 10 months that's a multi-million seller worldwide."

80.000 x 10 months = less than a million. Thus it cannot be a multi-million seller...oh Mark, oh Mark, what should we do with you?

"that's the reason why we're here and doing this because we want to make sure that day doesn't come."

If PC is doing so well, why bother?

Iamback3978d ago

Man you are DUMB! You tried to portray him as stupid but actually you are lol.
"if you sell 80,000 a month for 10 months that's a multi-million seller worldwide."- actually it means this. If it can sell 80k for 10 months in USA (those 80k they mention were USA sales numbers),that is 800k and if you add EU numbers you will get multi million seller WORLDWIDE(note that he said WORLDWIDE-when numbers from all territories are combined).

Next time think before you speak.

Gorgon3978d ago (Edited 3978d ago )

He didn't mention the 80k as beying US sales alone.

Now, lets suppose that in in the rest of the world, like you say, it sells another 80k x 10. Thats 1600.000 (800.000 + 800.000) copies, not even 2 million. So, it still ISN'T multi-million seller, is it, DUMB?

funkeystu3978d ago

It does however result in revenue in excess of 2million, which would make it a multi-million dollar seller (this is what I interpreted the OP as saying in the first place)

I need to see some examples, plans, talking about it is one thing, doing something is entirely different.
