Anthony John Agnello:
Don’t believe the haters—2012 was a fantastic year in video games. From indies like FTL: Faster Than Light to surprise underdogs like The Walking Dead and franchise resurrections like XCOM: Enemy Unknown, the past twelve months have been littered with high quality storytelling and play on literally every platform available. For all of the great games, though, there was quite a few that were missed. Not those games like Tomb Raider, Aliens: Colonial Marines, or BioShock Infinite that were pushed from 2012 release dates into 2013, but the lost and damned of gaming. The vaporware, the announced but never played, the missing in action games that perpetually sit on developer’s fiscal forecast documents and Amazon.com preorder pages, waiting forever for a firm release date that will never come.
A new year always brings new hope. Here are ten games previously announced for current consoles that we hope will re-emerge in 2013 as either the last fruits of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, the first wave of next-gen games, or fruitful library expansions for the PS Vita and Nintendo 3DS.
Ever play a game a game only to discover at some point it transforms into a horror game? No? Well Netto's Game Room shares six games that do just that!
Not necessarily a ‘horror’ moment, but I remember feeling really tense and anxious when the Flood were first introduced in the original Halo. I never felt more on edge or nervous in that whole game as that moment. I think it was the whole buildup that something terrible was coming but you didn’t know exactly what.
Another non-horror game that had me feeling it was Subnautica. The deep dark depths, and knowing that sea monsters were lurking nearby, had me jumping at every sound.
I remember being scared of the Asylum level in the most recent Thief game from 2014.
Shu Yoshida, former Head of Worldwide Studios at SIE, has shared some insight on the development struggles faces by The Last Guardian.
This game made a huge impact on me, the friendship beetween the boy and Trico reminded me of my old stubborn dog that was my friend when I was a kid.
The first game that ever made me cry, I love it
As a wise man once said: what be will, be will, and sometimes games just get canceled, whether it’s due to publisher meddling, a lack of funds or the creative vision simply not panning out.
Eight Days for me
Really would have enjoyed a buddy cop game with a Lethal Weapon like tone.
The only one that really bothered me was when Sony wouldn't fund Days Gone 2. That announcement made me literally feel nauseous. I felt sick in the guts. That's the first time Sony had done something that actually physically hurt me lol. I'm still bummed that there won't be a Days Gone 2.
Versus XIII is not coming out in 2013. It would clash with Lightning Returns. A early/summer 2014 release is more likely.
I hope we get Dragon's Crown as well I know it was pushed back but sometimes you can never tell.
I doubt Bioshock Vita will happen. Vita is not doing to hot right now. It hasent even started development yet so probably not a 2013 release unless its a rushed mess like Black ops declassified.
I really want The last Guardian and Beyond good and evil to come out already, it would be a shame if these projects are canceled.
