'Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance' almost didn't look like 'Metal Gear' (Photos)

The development saga of "Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance" for the PS3 and Xbox 360 has been a tale of reworks, cancellations and studio moves since it was first announced in 2009.

this is not a metal gear game and i don't care what everybody says.

kingjoker343924d ago

Its not trying to be a metal gear game bro. Its trying to be a damn good hack and slash game.

cyberninja3924d ago

it doesn't have to have metal gear in its name, just like re6 wasn't a re game, games like this tarnish the franchises, i'm still mad at capcom for what they did with re; i've forced myself through Leon's campaign, and once I finished it i had no intensions to play through the rest of the game, that's why i don't care about this metal gear game. It's like turning god of war into platfromer or devil may cry into metal gear solid or resident evil into brawler aka re6.

It doesn't come under the "numbered" saga, thus, you don't have to treat it as part of the franchise, just cannon. I love it when people swipe at a game without having played it. Pre-conceived notions will forever tarnish the gaming community.

This is an action game made by Platinum Games. The team behind Bayonetta and Vanquish, some of the coolest action titles that have been brought to the forefront without actually being sequels.

This isn't the same as RE6, where a team of thousands produce a game without any focus or devotion to the roots of the franchise. This is a modest team picked by Kojima to make a Metal Gear title that stripes away the convoluted story in favour of pure, unadulterated fun. If that makes it unworthy of the franchise, well then I've lost a little faith in you humans.

MysticStrummer3923d ago

I agree with cyberninja. The only reason this game has Metal Gear connections is because they know they'll get more sales that way.

Dark113924d ago

this is just like saying .. you won't buy Mario Kart cuz it's not a "real mario game".

chukamachine3924d ago

There's a better racer on the blocks now.

Sonic all stars transformed.

wishingW3L3924d ago (Edited 3924d ago )

but even Mario Kart stays truer to the Mario art-style and concept than this generic mess that wants to pass as a Metal Gear game. The character models are super generic, the story sounds ultra crap, Raiden went through a personality change and the game can't be more cheesy simply because it isn't possible! That's the difference!

If you remove Raiden from the game you wouldn't even be able to tell that this is a Metal Gear game. PG could call it a different name and this could pass as a completely new IP like Vanquish.

nukeitall3924d ago

Looks like a damn good Metal Gear game to me!

A game trying something new and getting slammed for it. Then they do the sequelitis thing and people complain too!

So what do you want? No games!?

jagstar443924d ago

It will probably be a fun game but i really really wanted the original concept...it looked like a traditional kojima metal gear game

this is just too over the top and silly

Kran3924d ago

Sorry... but I didn't think "Metal Gear" had a 'look'. I can understand it doesn't have the "Metal Gear Solid" look but then this is "Metal Gear Rising" meaning it's its own franchise in the Metal Gear franchise.

MysticStrummer3923d ago

It's really weird to me that people agreed with you, though this is N4G so it's hard to take agrees or disagrees very seriously.

I definitely think Metal Gear has a "look".

Kran3923d ago

As long as it has the !, some form of stealth and that it's developed by some sort of Japanese company, it's a Metal Gear game.

Braid3923d ago

How did we guess Phantom Pain was an MGS game if the games have no certain "look" to them, then? Of course the games have a distinct artistic style with recurring themes and design choices, the simplest example being the sneaking suits. I don't know about you but being a die hard fan of the series I can easily determine if the material shown is MGS related from a mile, which proves our point.

Kran3923d ago

Not Metal Gear.

Haven't you been reading a work I said? Of course the Phantom Pain looked like a METAL GEAR SOLID game, but Metal Gear Rising doesn't look like a METAL GEAR SOLID game purely because it's its own franchise like Metal Gear Acid was.

Are you getting it now?

If you were a die hard fan, you'd know there was a difference between Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Rising and Metal Gear Acid and that they all fall under the same franchise "Metal Gear", which furthermore proves that Metal Gear doesn't really have a "look" because it's of multiple sub franchises and the two NES Metal Gear games also fall under their own franchise too slightly.

Platinum Games are doing a good job and I think this game will be great and a nice addition to the mgs universe. And by the way, we are getting Ground Zeroes, so everybody should feel happy .

Metal Gear Solid Can Work Without Hideo Kojima

There are more good non-Kojima Metal Gear games than one would realize. Scientifically, three examples prove a trend, and in this feature are three excellent Metal Gear games that Hideo Kojima did not direct.

I hope so, still cant forget MGS Survive , the first MGS game without Kojima involvement and it was a complete failure, the thing is Kojima way of thinking is outside the box and that's why their games 99% end up unique, original and a almost instant classic. MGS series are full of intricate things that somehows connects to each other, Lalulilelo, the Patriots, Outher heaven, Foxhound, PMCs , heck even Kojima manage to insert DARPA in there lol, a US government Defense Agency. So is really great MGS3 Remake is reviving the series but without Kojima who knows of the end result, I hope Konami have another or more developers insight their studios who can also think outside the box.

senorfartcushion114d ago

It actually can’t. But it won’t matter.

Kojima is Metal Gear the same way that Christopher Nolan is The Dark Knight, or David Lynch is Twin Peaks: The Return episode 8. Artistry is the creation of a thing from your own thoughts and feelings. Take away the original artist’s thoughts and feelings and you have a new thing entirely.

This isn’t going to stop the mega corporation creating a fake version and spending millions TELLING customers that it’s made with the same thoughts and feelings. The masses will buy the idea the same way the corporation will sell the idea.

just_looken113d ago

I guess everyone forgot metal gear solid rising was tossed to platnium games with a story script and that is it.

Z501113d ago

Kojima was involved in Rising tho

just_looken112d ago

kpjima just did the story everything else was platnium games look it up.

Hence i said script

i think the bigger issue is whether or not Konami is actually interested in fully funding AAA games development. Even this remake is done by a studio not really known in gaming industry. Quality remake/projets vs cheap cash in quick releases. Which way will Konami head. I am a huge MGS fan and i feel like Kojima did long time MGS fans dirty with how made MGS5 and it's story elements

senorfartcushion113d ago

Remakes and remasters provide a gateway through to producing AAA games faster and cheaper.

RaveTears113d ago (Edited 113d ago )

Actually MGS Portable Ops which was technically the first canon MGS game that Kojima wasn’t mainly involved with it. Kojima was only the producer but not the writer and director.

Konami did other MGS spin off that were successful but that because Konami put effort. Just along Konami is not lazy and cash grab, they can a MGS game without Kojima.
