1UP's Favorite Games of 2012: Hitman Absolution

1up.com: HItman Absolution takes the core elements of a fun stealth game -- open environments, social camouflage, and dozens of weapons and potential tools -- and adds special challenges that tempt players to replay each stage constantly. I didn't think much of additional tasks when I first picked up Absolution, but every time I completed a level, I felt the urge to jump back in and discover new ways to complete the objective.

Hitman absolution favorite game of 2012? well i guess is a matter of taste i thought blood money was way better than absolution, best game for me in 2012 has to be Borderlands 2.

I agree, I received HM:A yesterday and it is done so poorly in comparison to it's superior predecessors. The checkpoint system is abysmal, so is the disguise system (HM2 had something simila but better - instinct is needed for disguises) and it is streamlined - something that should've never happened.

It is a matter of taste! I saw Hitman:Absolution as a mature blend of Blood Money,Silent Assassin, and Contracts. To me it is the best action GOTY. But 1UP does not have a single game of the year- it is just one of 1UPs favorite games of 2012.

Honestly, I thought it was better than people had said it was.

I too, am a fan of Blood Money and from what I was hearing, folks thought it was a radical departure from that. I really didn't get that at all. Biggest change I saw was replacing the map with Instinct mode.

I also was under the impression the story driven nature of HM:A was going to force choices and eliminate freedom, and that was completely not the case at all.

The actual story is subjective, but it felt like a true Hitman game. If anyone is still on the fence I say get it. GOTY? I don't know. But much better than I expected.

There are things that I liked better from the old games (ie not having levels divided up, less focus on a streamlined story, and always having a final mark to assassinate).

But look at all the improvements:
-radar
-notification system to avoid being spotted
-instinct mode with limited uses
-cover system when being stealthy
-really cool and diverse environments (bar scene, stip club, various city streets, court)
-multiplayer contracts mode to create your own contracts
-gun attachments to customize your weapons

This game has soo much replayablity too when you look at all the challenges to unlock by doing all he unique executions.

There WERE things that I liked better in Blood Money for sure. But this was a fantastic game and my GOTY.

+1 for 1up.

How IO turned Hitman around, from Absolution to World of Assassination

When Hitman 3 recently changed its name to Hitman World of Assassination, fans had no idea how meaningful the moment was. On the outside it looked like a simple thing: Hitman 3 would now be known by this name and include levels from Hitman 2 and 3 - the trilogy would all be in one place. But on the inside, at IO Interactive, much more was going on.

You mean destroyed it with this tethered single-player campaign BS... And only the first few levels of the third modern game were on the disc! I'll never support this crap at any price-point! They've lost me as a customer.

Hitman is, and has been, a remarkable series developed by some of the best. Some are better than others, but every Hitman is challenging and fun.

Sure, there have been some stumbles and fumbles, but always in pursuit of the perfect Hitman game. The most recent trilogy is a masterclass in level design.
