Sony President responds to popular PS3 meme on Nintendo's Miiverse

Sony Worldwide Studios President Shunhei Yoshida responded on Miiverse to a user making a joke containing the infamous "Five Hundred and Ninety-Nine US Dollars" meme about the PS3's original launch price.

He is surprisingly good spirited and shows that he can take a joke.

That is funny and true. I did not and will not pay that much for a console, unless it cleans my house. I just got my PS3 3 years ago, and I love it, But for that price I could upgrade my PC and have more power than the PS4 will have for sure.

Blackdeath_6634524d ago

yeah i have grown to realise that too. people who buy consoles at launch are stupid its more expensive at launch, fewer games, and the quality of games at launch is so much lower than the quality of games released mid-end of a consoles life cycle.instead of next gen consoles i will be getting a pc and make life so much easier. will also be selling my laptop no need for that anymore.

USEYOURFIST4523d ago

then you will be missing out on some truly brilliant console exclusives

evilbart4523d ago (Edited 4523d ago )

Clutch went on my car last week cost me €400 wasn't much fun bought a wii u the other day absolutely loving it my point is you got to traet yourself every now and again cause you never know whats araound the corner

Blackdeath_6634523d ago

@USEYOURFIST

i will get a console but not when it is released. my point was that if you are going to get a console the optimum time to do so is half way through its life cycle and for the soul purpose of playing exclusives. getting a console at launch is silly

ronin4life4523d ago

SOMEONE has to buy them, or you would never be able to.
Please remember that before calling other people stupid.

MRMagoo1234523d ago

I paid $1000aus for my ps3 on launch day, i dont feel i was ripped off and to call me stupid for buying it is plain ignorant, if it wasnt for early adopters of new consoles you wouldnt be able to get all the benefits you mentioned

As I do agree with your comment that A launch purchase of a game box is worth serious conteplation before the decision to actually give up the money, The ps3 for me was a "no-brainer" buy at launch because it was such a huge leap from older boxes, and I had a blast playing the "sub-par (sic)", games such as Motorstorm, Oblivian, Resistance:fall of man, Heavenly Sword, Lair,Superstardust HD, Warhawk etc.. Plus I new I would be seeing a "Metal Gear" "Gran Turismo" etc.. so I loved being ahead of the curve with some awesome exclusives some are still yet to experience. But its not for everyone.

chadboban4524d ago

Glad to see he's a good sport about it. Also glad that PS3 is seeing much better days now since that time.

Funny how some fanboys will be more upset by this than the freaking President of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios himself.

PopRocks3594524d ago (Edited 4524d ago )

Your disagrees speaks volumes. I agree, the man is indeed a good sport.

ronin4life4523d ago (Edited 4523d ago )

That's because the people involved are never as attached I suppose... Or I should say aren't obsessively attached.

Like How sports players can be all nice and supportive of one another after a match, while the "fans" start killing each other over what is nothing more than a game...@.@

Hicken4523d ago

That's because the players may find themselves on the same team with those former opponents, while the fans tend to stay fans of the team, regardless of who's on it.

shutUpAndTakeMyMoney4524d ago (Edited 4524d ago )

ps4 will be better though for hardcore games. I would bet money on it. Pikmen 3 vs The Last Of Us?

Theyellowflash304523d ago

Facepalm.

PS4 vs Wii U right? Last of Us is a PS3 game. And Pikmin 3 not Pikmen 3.

- Why would you even compare those two games? Bayonetta 2, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, Dragon Quest X, The Wonderful 101 all Wii U exclusives for core gamers.

chillhomie4523d ago

If you think Pikmin is simple, pick up and play (aka "casual") you clearly haven't played it or know little about it. Its a thinking-strategic game that takes time to master. This whole core vs casual thing is just silly to me. Play the games YOU like, those games don't have to match someone else's made up standards. Smh @ "gamers" these days.

corrus4523d ago

How you can compare The Last Of Us with that baby's game Pikmen 3

ElectricKaibutsu4523d ago

Can't tell if serious (Fry squinty eye.jpg)

ozzywazzy4523d ago

Nintendo fans sure do love those little plants and flowers and cutesy alien monsters. Why waste 300 bones? Just buy a Leap Frog baby tablet for much cheaper.

MasterCratosKong664523d ago

probably tried pikmin and had a major hissy cuz you weren't smart enough to get the strategy. now you swore vengence and became a member of the hateocracy (evil league of haters)

chillhomie4523d ago

That's the problem right there "pikmin 3 vs the last of us" those 2 games are completely different and shouldn't be compared. As far as "hardcore gamers" are concerned, Pikmin is known to be a strategic game that can get quite difficult but I guess since its tone isn't as serious, doesn't have guns, blood, sex, and isn't rated M its not hardcore right?

This ignorance and close-mindedness is why videogames are lacking in diversity compared to past generations. Its matters not how "cool" you are for playing a videogame, afterall, they all are plastic toys used to manipulate what's on a screen. What matters is that it's enjoyable. If Pikmin isn't ur cup of tea (completely understandable) then that's fine but don't go running off at the mouth speaking out of your behind about a game you know nothing about. It makes you look like a tool

deafdani4523d ago

You need to learn some things. A game isn't "hardcore" because of its graphic style, and anyone that truly believe that is immature.

Donkey Kong Country Returns kicked my ass many, many more times than GTA IV, Mass Effect games, Uncharted games, etc.

Now, if you meant PS4 will be better for more "mature" games, as in, a more adult tone... maybe you're right. Personally, I enjoy ANY good game, regardless of its tone (kiddy vs. adult).

Zhipp4523d ago (Edited 4523d ago )

Pikmin 3!

Seriously, though, the two games are so radically different that it isn't even fair to compare them.

shackdaddy4523d ago

Lol. Ya, you're soooo hardcore.

well, the switch 2 has two holidays in the us, thanksgiving and Christmas.

so id say its fairly possible. the rest of the world will also grab them

Abriael1d 19h ago

Yeah doesn't seem out of the realm of possibility as long as they have enough supply.

Si-Fly1d 9h ago

Do people buy each other games consoles for Thanksgiving? I’m in Europe and always assumed it was just Christmas where gifts were exchanged.

Skate-AK1d 9h ago

I don't think it's so much Thanksgiving, but that Black Friday is the day after.

darthv721d 9h ago (Edited 1d 9h ago )

That time is often referred to as the start of the Xmas shopping season. For the last few years, retailers would do 'black Friday' deals at various times throughout the year. While many still prefer to start their shopping in the mid to late November, others will just buy when they feel the time (and prices) are right for them.

gold_drake16h ago

i guess its more black friday, should have been more clear ha

GotGame81815h ago(Edited 15h ago)

Thanksgiving kicks off the Christmas Holiday.

Switch and Switch are a different kettle of fish. A sell out at launch by the diehards, strong sales, then the non diehards will be put off by the £75 ($99) games, including the stupid download cards which are topping £65 ($85). Not rocket science to work out how the Switch 2 is going to pan out. The PS5 has sold well, but games at £70, sales have been low. As game sales drop, prices will rise. Sony could knock out all their games for £40 and still make a killing selling more games. There's no denying that a gaming crash is looming.

Rancegamerx1d 5h ago

I agree, I don't see the Switch 2 selling anywhere near the numbers that these predictions suggest or what the general buzz is implying. While the initial sales will likely be strong, driven by diehard fans, I anticipate a gradual decline. It may not drop off immediately, but over time, sales will inevitably taper.

PRIMORDUS1d 5h ago

Not paying for something that's not worth more than the price it was advertised, which is $449 - $499.

Why Portability Still Matters for Nintendo Switch 2—and What We’re Hoping to See

Nintendo Switch 2 upgrades portability with a bigger screen, 1080p handheld play, and Wi-Fi 6. Here's why it still matters in 2025.

Profchaos12d ago

As someone who travels for work I still care about portable systems.

I have found using remote play in a hotel room is an excellent experience in a major city as I've got my console hard wired to a gigabit connection at home however it's not perfect if power trips the console tends to go to the repair section and can't be booted remotely so it's a annoying call to family to power it on for me.

A hotel out of town or regionally though that can cause havok for remote play as I'm always on 5g using it hotel wifi is never good enough for a solid remote play session.

But leaving a stable location and getting onto a plane or train and there's little to no chance of a good experience with remote play thats where something like the switch 2 will really shine for me personally long haul flights are exhausting and one of my most hated things the switch has been invaluable for me and I'll absolutely be upgrading

Goodguy0111d ago

Nintendo has always done it the best, handheld is in their genes. I do wish their dock could be like an egpu though and it make it much more powerful, it's a bit harder for me to play portable now for some odd reason, love just sitting on the couch with a big screen and controller. And ofc always great to have the portable option and for me it's best for smaller games.

jznrpg11d ago

I was hoping for a little more than 540p upscaled

UltimateOwnage11d ago

IMO, 540P upscaled in portable mode to a 1080P screen using DLSS on the tensor cores will likely extend battery life using a lower TDP and provide much better anti-aliasing and similar clarity compared to native 1080P with med/low AA at a higher TDP. It’s just a better way to use a mobile chipset. That’s not a flaw or weakness, it’s a key benefit for the portable design of the platform.

repsahj10d ago

Lol, even the impressive upscaling feature of Switch 2 can now spin to a negative one.

jznrpg10d ago (Edited 10d ago )

Switch 1 was hitting 720p and above that with no upscale, so why can’t they have a higher res and upscale it more

repsahj10d ago

@jznrpg
Because of that even the current gen games will now run on switch 2 that looked as good and with decent framerate as the current gen consoles.

Do you watch Nintendo's hands on preview for switch 2? LOL.

badz14910d ago

because aside from Nintendo's own games which have their dedicated fanbase, portability is the only other thing it has going for it. Nintendo will be eliminated faster than xbox if they ever decide to do a dedicated home console again. going the hybrid way is the only way left for them and they are lucky they dominated the portable market all those years ago. imagine the power of the Switch 2 as a console this day and age with the same price as PS5. they will be the laughing stock of the market.

Former Nintendo PR Explains Why Switch Games Rarely Go on Sale: 'This Isn't Ubisoft'

Former Nintendo PR manager says that the reason their games rarely go on sale is because they value their games and aren't like Ubisoft.

Just throwing shade at Ubisoft like that.

"Nintendo’s audience will buy the game if it wants to, regardless of sales."

Sales? What sales? People buy Nintendo games at full price because they don't go on sale.

SlothLordPootus29d ago

That and the fact that their 3rd party support has been near nonexistent, so if you own the system you have basically no choice in what to buy. Especially with the switch it was nintendo first party or indies.

Obelisk9229d ago

Each company just wants to make the most profit, and Nintendo is such a strong brand that can afford to sell games at full prices withouth sales.
Weaker brands need to go on sale in order to continue selling some units.
That's just how it goes.

Christopher29d ago

Why I don't play Switch games and won't be buying a Switch 2. I tried, but it's just not for me or my wallet.

Dudebro28d ago

Nintendo is a game company only.althought I don't like it you can't see where they're coming from.nintendo doesn't have a diverse portfolio.

theres a reason why hes a "former" employee.

woth that kinda mindset, i would have fired him too ha.

__SteakDeck__29d ago

What are you talking about? He wasn’t fired. Nintendo wanted to move his show to Seattle and he didn’t want to leave California.

franwex29d ago

Keeping it real? I would’ve promoted him.

lukasmain30d ago

They value their games? Meaning others who have sales don't? How fking rude of this dude. Nintendo are really arrogant

LucasRuinedChildhood29d ago (Edited 29d ago )

Hopefully they get humbled like with the 3DS launch but I doubt it. There's enough early adopters that are very enthusiastic.

VariantAEC28d ago

I don't doubt that Nintendo will be forced to swallow their pride again.

SoloGamer129d ago

because Nintendo is anti-consumer
