Sony begins shipping new 1080p MD RPTVs

Sony recently began shipping two new Grand WEGA micro-display rear projection high-definition TVs (HDTVs).

The 70-inch KDS-R70XBR2 and 60-inch KDS-R60XBR2, which use Sony's three 0.61-inch SXRD chips, support full resolution of 1,920×1,080 and are based on the company's Silicon X-tal Reflective Display (SXRD) technology. The two XBR sets round out the complete SXRD line announced earlier this year.

The two sets deliver up to contrast ratio of 10,000:1 and response time of 2.5ms. Other features include two HDMI (high-definition multimedia interface) inputs with 1080p capability, front HDMI HDV camcorder connection and a PC input. The XBR models feature side speakers, which are removable on the KDS-R70XBR2 model.

The KDS-R70XBR2 and KDS-R60XBR2 units are available for about US$7,000 and US$4,300, respectively, through Sony's retail stores, according to the company.

just in time for ps3. boost electronic sales for tvs that support blu-ray properly. but of course blu-ray was used strickly for gamers benefit. wouldn't have anything to do with he fact that sony gets a cut of every blu-ray sale while at the same time trying to profit off of everyone buying their brand tv to actually utilize it. IN MY OPINION

Of course it's all coordinated, Sony is going to brand the PS3 with their TV's, isn't that common sense? The display pictures that have been linked all show Bravia 42" panels, which is a great 1080p tv, but for my money I would rather have one of their SXRD line. I am opting for this one though, http://reviews.cnet.com/Son... The TV linked in this article is just not worth the price difference for me. There are other 1080p TV's out there though: Samsung, Panasonic, Toshiba, etc.. The Sony KDS-R70XBR2 of this article will probably get CNET's editor's choice award, like the Sony SXRD from last year.

that's why i wonder why companies (yes microsoft too) can't just tell the truth about their motives. makes people not like or trust you. it's the same reason most countries don't like the united states.

i would be satisfied just by this picture....
the actual tv is too expensive, i think you could buy a third world country (or atleast a city) with that amount of money

I have last year's KDS (50"). It only does 1080i, not 1080p. I highly, highly recommend this television. It's awesome.

That being said, my KDS is the subject of a class action lawsuit... hehe. I haven't had any problems tho.

blue-green tint going across the bottom third of the screen? My brother's SXRD has that problem; that's why I bought a Tosh 62MX196 ;)

But I know a lot of people who have the problem...that's why there is a class action lawsuit!

I'm NOT saying Sony TVs aren't good. But Samsung is kicking Sony's butt in TV sales. My best bud has a SXRD, and would rather have this one:

$1700 on amazon AND the same or better than an SXRD.
