I love halo, Not so much the campaign. The first one had a simple story and it was just awesome being Master Chief the badass. My gripe is these games suddenly have someone who has nothing to do with the game write a book, and from there the whole story gets changed. What we have now is something the creators didn't even write and a strange feeling of no attachment to the original. A mismatch of ideas that should have never been in the campaign. The games now cater for the folks that read the "books" and I didn't have the slightest clue what was going on in Halo 4 and that English accent bad guy feels completely out of place.

watch the terminal vides and you'll understand. But i get what you mean, I already knew who he was but for those that didn't there should've been a more fleshed out scene explaining it.

But i think it was their intention. In halo 1 we didn't know wth the backstory was or why the covenant were so bent on activating halo. It followed masterchief throughout the campaign and only gave clues to the overall story. In halo 2 they really showed the prophets and the gravemind, and the story got more complex.

I think they're taking the same approach, halo 4 was primarily about masterchief and cortana and requiem. Even the UNSC weren't given much attention. Halo 5 is where the story will expand i feel.

Actually i think i remember seeing backstory in CE's game manual...as well as fall of reach novel being released very close (not sure if before or after) to CE's release

@SixZeroFour

Well exactly, instead of in manuals the backstory is now in terminal videos, and they're pretty well made for just extra info.

And similarly, the forerunner novels "Cryptum" and "Primoridum" already came out before halo 4, they explain Forerunners and Diadact's story. And the third book is coming out next month.

Bungie at that time became the most wonderful bunch of hypocrites in the gaming industry. Knowing this now, gosh the entitlement they felt was out of this world.

Nothing like buying yourself from Microsoft because you don't want to be the Halo Studio anymore, and the FIRST THING you do is sign your next IP over to Activision, for a DECADE, while they are in the middle of ousting the heads of Infinity Ward so they can exert even more control over COD while screwing out the devs at IW...

Should've come as no surprise then that Activision gutted the content of Destiny 1 before launch and was a horrible partner through Destiny 2, until history repeated itself and Bungie had to split from Activision only to wind up in the arms of another major conglomerate that also doesn't know how to handle these unmanageable devs.

Tti their credit they praised the technical abilities of 343 and I remember at the time thinking halo 4 was a huge graphical leap above reach everything else was rubbish when I actually got to play it but there was no doubt it looked good for the 360 and is probably the best looking game on the system.

But ultimately I think bungie has always had a leadership problem and going independent ultimately proved this it's only getting worse with studio heads being outed by Sony for abuse allegations seems like all bungies past success has been in spite of management not because of it.

But really I think the bungie we have today is not the same one we had in that Xbox era of Bungie

I liked the artstyle change. For the most part. Something looked worse but most of everything else looked better. Weapons and vehicles for sure. The wraith come to my mind instantly.
And how can they get mad when the bungie changed it with Halo Reach?

I know a lot of people dislike Halo 4’s arts style, but there’s thing about it I like and dislike. Personally, the Halo 4 design of Master Chief’s armour is my favourite depiction of the character’s armour.

My favourite of the series... I have only played 3 though

Never a big fan of the original but number two blew me away with it's scale, the bit at the beginning when you're driving a tank across this giant bridge whilst shooting down flying enemies lives in my head. Always rocked the double needler

gigoran8220d ago

as much as I liked it, it was one of the first game endings where I went "you gotta be f'ing kidding me!"

I still remember the gameplay reveal during E3 2003.. Man, the graphics was like a major upgrade from Halo 1 and it blew everybody's mind. It looked miles ahead of anything on PlayStation 2 and the score was epic! When it launched, Halo 2 was worthy of every bit of hype it generated.

They actually just released the E3 demo recently for MCC. It's unreal to actually see people finally playing something from 20 years ago.

2 & 3 had the best teaser trailers back in the day. The score is so memorable.

goken220d ago

Where are the calls for a remake eh?

cthulhucultist220d ago

This in my opinion is one of the best Halo games (Alongside 1 and Reach). It introduced the prophets, you could play an elite which was awesome, dual handling SMG, amazing graphics for its time on original Xbox and so many more.

The city levels had flat textures and streaming issues but the assault on the Temple with the ODST team was an unforgettable experience. I still remember how detailed the buildings covered with moss and grass were like and the water element in the temples was perfectly utilized.

Replayed this gem on MCC and had a blast.
