Me to but I never stopped buying SB cards. Motherboard audio no matter how good it is now still is not equal to a good sound card. I'm using a Sound Blaster AE-7 now.😊
Quite right, while on-board audio has come on leaps and bounds, I cannot use it as I have hearing issues. I have the AE-5, great audio and paired with a decent headset nothing comes close for PC sound.
Is there a real alternative to Soundblaster when you want a real audio card that can support things like Dolby Atmos or a 7 speakers configuration?

The AE-7 and AE-9 do 7.1 virtual surround on headphones and speakers. The other card is from EVGA called NU Audio it does the same though virtual 7.1

Soundbars? Really? Maybe this satisfies someone who has never owned a proper hifi setup. For $400 you would be much better off with decent headphones. Invest $200 more and get an entry level 2.0 hifi system. For $1000 you might be able to get a decent 5.1.
Typically you're right. However, depending on the room maybe a soundbar might work. I have a 1200 receiver and expensive speakers but I just moved them into my new man cave which is really small and the sound seems to be reflecting off of the walls poorly, so I'm thinking of other solutions. Another thing is my HK receiver puts out so much heat along with pc I'm actually considering how I could go without a receiver. Maybe a sound card. At night I use headphones but occasionally I just need sports/news basic sound.
I just bought the Sound Blaster X-FI Titanium HD and I really love what it does for my Astro A50's and Logitech Z-906 speakers. I don't know TOO much about high quality audio, and sound cards and the like etc.. But I know it helped a lot, and i'm sure this is great too. I just wouldn't like having that bright red card in my computer, but otherwise it's good.
I had the A50's for a bit but my Xbox Live audio chat was bad, people on the other end said I sounded very far away. This was the case as well with the A30's and 40's never did find out what was wrong.
Been a while since I've heard of the Sound Blaster brand, I don't need it though since my pc is hooked up with my old reliable avr. Pity I can't pump up the volume to full, since night time is the only game time for me.
