Toejam and Earl: Sega Vintage Collection Review - Chaos Hour

Back in 1991 Sega released Toejam and Earl, a top down, 2D, dungeon crawl game. The game became an instant success and its eponymous characters became second tier mascots alongside Sega’s latest creation: Sonic the Hedgehog. However, the company initially cited Toejam and Earl as a commercial failure due to fairly poor initial sales. It wasn’t until the 1991 Christmas spike that the game began to pick up popularity, word of mouth spread about a thoroughly odd game starring two rapping aliens. Over time it became a very early cult game and over the years has picked up something of a cult following. The game was re-released on Nintendos virtual console back in 2006 and in November 2012 was given the green light for an Xbox Live Arcade release. And that, dear readers, is where our review begins.
