Rockstar has claimed that it could have "easily" turned Grand Theft Auto into an annual franchise by 'churning out' a new GTA every year, but decided against doing so over fears that fans would "lose interest" in the series.
Thank god they're taking their time with each title... Treat your game with the respect it deserves. The developers that keep pushing yearly releases will never have the quality a title crafted with loving care over the years will have.
"We could easily have churned out a new version year after year without really progressing as a franchise but if we did that eventually the fans would lose interest." That statement alone will keep R* relevant for years to come, The game looks so smooth, and with R* dropping the second trailer today, things can only get better.
I wouldn't mind a GTA every year as long it was a new city every year, beside NYC and LA. That would keep me interested.
And its people like you that are responsible for Cod, Assassins Creed and Fifa.
That’s the thing man, they couldn't make a "GTA" city every year. I'm sure they could churn out "GTA Stories" type games every year, but what they put into making a living, breathing city the way they do is not something that could be done that fast.
Best Developers ever IMHO
valve and rockstar are easily my top 2 developers
Bethesda..Then Rock Star. 3rd place..Idk,that's up for grabs.
1st valve 2nd rockstar 3rd unreal/ bethesda
Totally agreed. Rockstar are the best developers in gaming history in my opinion with Kojima and Naughty Dog following behind them respectively. All the respect to Rockstar for respecting their games and gamers by not releasing cash grab yearly releases, but instead taking their time to deliver masterpiece after masterpiece.
Rockstar, Nintendo, Naughty Dog, Valve.. GOATS
blizzard, naughty dog and rockstar.
Rockstar is the only reason i still have faith in this industry, love them.
faith in the industry = restored ! well not really look at ea and activision
Ugh.. so true.
good don't release a game every year. but on a side note unlike activsion, Rockstar has established IP's that actually sell. activision all they really got is CoD and skylanders. not only that their franchises have a dedicated fanbase, you know how many people are itching for a new bully, manhunt etc. hell i know alot of people that want another warriors game and/or a remake of the original one.
new manhunt and warriors games would make me a very happy sociopath indeed
I still don't understand how "TheWarriors" are not on PSN or Live. That game would sale guaranteed...
@b163o1 "that game would sale guaranteed" I know it is supposed to be a slightly common thing to use sale instead of sell but just reading that sentence sounds wrong, i know it doesnt matter much but why do people even use sale instead of sell, i for one wouldnt say at my pc repair shop that "i made a sell today" i would say "i made a sale today" then my wife would probably say "what did you sell" not "what did you sale". anyone get what i mean ?
Have you thought that "maybe" hes foreign, i mean, maybe hes not from the United States Of The World I understood what i meant, is that not enough for you, do we all have to type PERFECT english now a days Because look, i is not always usin de propa english, understand?
@hells Im talking in general tho not just this one person , i see people do it all the time and it doesnt even sound right so stfu
At least they know what to do with their franchises.
Agreed. Rockstar, whether people like their games or not (how can't you?), have to be shown the utmost respect by gamers. They are one of only a few developers who take risks, and take time to develop their games. The had LA Noire, and brought back a sequel to the almost forgotten Max Payne and a Red Dead franchise. Always had massive respect for Rockstar.
they forgot to add "but we would kill the quality of the franchise" besides the impact is more rewarding when you give it time to breath with the exception of cod of course. the fanbase is just dedicated sheep and army rejects lol jokes
I don`t know. Almost everything Rockstar puts out is a contender for GOTY. LA Noire, RDR, GTA etc
they are great devs and i'm really hoping for a bully sequel at some point. that game was just awesome.
So glad they didn't half ass it like other titles making a game exceptional takes time lots of time and you look forward to it more the last gta was 4 years ago and it's nice to have another one
Time is key and that is a great thing. R* just make them slow and proper
rigggght, just like valve half series would turn into a monthly episodic series, hows that working out for them?
It's doing great; Half life 3 just got delayed for another month.
Take your time R*, and don't forget to add gamestores to Los Santos, with random midnight launches for a certain popular game, the people waiting in line... Guranga!
Oow, oow! I wanna take a car to a rooftop while the gamers stand on line for (unmentioned game launch), then driving it off the roof into the crowd. Of course, I'll line up more cars prior to the rooftop jump, to maximize the explosion... Oops I mean, I don't 'really' want to do that... Lol
A year isn't long enough to play and enjoy a whole GTA game.
Not that I agree or disagree, but I enjoyed the previous GTA games under 2-3 months.
Rockstar knows what they are doing, the rest of this industry should be wise and listen to their approach. Quality over quantity wins every time.
Thank you R*, for knowing you could, but refusing to do so for the sake of the game
"But then people would have realized how boring our gameplay is." You can thank me later.
no worse then the endless, yearly shooters that plague us to this day
I'm happy R* doesn't milk their franchises dry with yearly rekeases
thank you Rockstar for not whoring out your franchise like some other devs now how about the GTA HD COLLECTION? w/ liberty + vice city stories? please!
in that case... Rockstar! Take your time with new releases but hurry up with the HD Collections :D
Only one of the many reasons why R* is one of the best video game companies out there.
every year? plz don't do it...
It's true but that's why Rockstar is awesome, they take their time to innovate unlike some other devs.
2 of them is decent.. Those expansions added to part 4.. Last gen had many GTA titles so im glad they took it easy this time.. But an actual GTA true sequel being made in the same gen is a first..
I only played gta4 like 2 or 3 hours.by that time i was playing on a projector, and the brightness and contrast weren't that good, my eyes were almost bleeding, with such effort. Guys, I've played some open world games like infamous, arkham city, saints row 3,etc. Right now I'm playing dishonored (excellent so far), and once I finish it, I will start the assassins creed series, I have bought the first one via psn, and all the others, the boxes are unopened. Once I finish the series, mass effect 1 should have been released, and even if Ive played me2 and me3 2 times, I want to start a new game from scratch, with ALL the extensions and packs i already own, and omega extension. The question is: by that time, we should be on february. Do you believe its worth starting gta4, when gta5 is about to be released? Or should i skip the 4, and start directly with the 5? I'm afraid of investing a big amount of hours on gta4, with the extensions, and then, the 5 is 'barely' the same as the 4, with New content and missions, but the same gameplay, etc. If it was a 8 hour long game, no problem. But with the full game and the extension balad of gay tony, I think, I could be playing it for 50 or more hours. And then, the 5 gets released, and I could lose a bit of interest. So, I skip the 4 and get the 5, asap? Or should I play the 4, and invest all those hours on it, with the risk of getting a bit bored, because the 4 is still awesome, in 2013, and its a AAA title, and then, everything will be and feel better, with gta5? Really thanks for the advices :)
From a personal experience with GTA dated back from 1 on the original PS1, I'd say play at least 3, then Vice City, then San Andreas, and skip 4. The problem with 4, it's a more serious tone than just having fun and random activities. If you do decide to play GTA 4, be prepared to do a lot of side missions you do not care to do; I don't want to spoil what they are just in case. If you do find the time to play 3, that's the start of how it went 3D, then Vice City is the beginning of certain perks that was omitted in 3, and San Andreas because of how big and random it is - as well as a very deep story which some would argue is better than 4's story.
So you think its better to start with gta3 and vice city, even before playing/skipping the 4. I guess the stories arent tied like, for example, mass effect... But one thing is sure.. i will for sure have a great time playing gta4, and gta5 is gonna be a AAA monster.and I bet after playing them, i will be curious enough to want to know how everything started, and will want to play the 3.so why not starting with the 3 and vice city... Good advice! i will check how i can play it, if its on psn, or if I need to buy the game, etc. Thanks
yea, but a next game after 5 years is also pushing it too far in the other direction IMO, 3-4 year development cycle would be great
Rockstar ownns all.
