You see, this is exactly the same as the other article. I really don't see this as news worthy. The PS3 outsells the 360 in Europe and the 360 outsells the PS3 in America. It's been like that since the beginning. So writing about it yet again, isn't news. News is supposed to be interesting and thought provoking, not repetitive. As banal as it would be, 'All consoles sold well this generation' would be a more interesting article...

To the disagrees: Are you disagreeing with PS3 outsells the 360 in Europe, the 360 outsells the PS3 in America, the fact that I think it's not news worthy or 'All consoles sold well this generation' would make a more interesting story?

The only counter point I could manage(Playing devils advocate here) is that these are all different websites and/or weekly and monthly updates. To the websites themselves these are just singular local posts, even though they add up here.(on n4g)

And The people posting them here are most likely trying to up their status here on n4g so they can approve stories... resulting in constant non-new "news".

What does matter is this false interpretation impressed on the lesser knowledgeable public that the PS3 doesn't sell as well as the Xbox360 when the actual global year-on-year figures suggest otherwise.

This maters because if this falsehood becomes a matter of 'fact' to the public in general then it could effect PS3 sales which could impact Sony’s investment in their gaming division.. the repercussions of this would not only effect Sony’s faithful but in fact all gamers and it isn’t something any true gamer would want to see happen!

really? last year, 2011, the 360 ended up selling more WORLDWIDE then the ps3. Will probably do the same this year.

The 360 also outsells the PS3 in UK which happens to be in Europe.

I think we have to consider that the some of these regions the PS3 outsells is very small. To say the WORLD is stretching it a bit too far. Especially since there are a lot of places in the world that don't even have ps3/360 or Wii.

Not to get technical or specific but this trend on N4G of saying "the world" is a bit silly.

Its nice to see that the Nintendo 3D entertainment system is the worlds go to device for dedicated on the go gaming. If recent trends are factored into the equation, Nintendo is looking to further the sales lead throughout the 2012 holiday season going into 2013 and beyond. Thanks to very affordable strategic pricing, and many high priority high demand exclusive offerings down the pipeline. I expect the recently announced Mario Kart 7 Nintendo 3DS entertainment system bundle to play a major factor in furthering the already healthy install base in the coming months.

My wife has the 3DS and I have the Vita. I like the Vita alot and I am not normally a handheld gamer. I actually think the Vita is amazing for a handheld system. I hope it does better in the future.

Also, bear in mind the current market for handhelds in unlike any market we've seen previously. No other mobile gaming device has had to contend with almost half a billion smartphones and tablets out there as the 3DS and Vita do at the moment, during the worst economic conditions we've seen in a generation.

I've pointed this out before. In Feb, analysts said the Vita could sell a "whopping" 12 million in the fiscal year with a price cut. No price cut is coming and now the forecast is 10 million. Given that 12 million was seen as "whopping" sales in the current market, why is 10 million seen as a failure (assuming it hits this figure by the end of March)?

What I also find interesting is that despite the current market conditions being the arguably the toughest conditions any handheld has ever faced, the Vita seems to be selling similarly to early DS and GBA sales during their initial Jan-Sept stretch, yet I don't recall either of those consoles being lamented for their slow sales.

But we've seen this pattern before of websites repeatedly trumpeting the doom of the PSP, the PS3, the Vita, and now we're already seeing articles about why the PS4 will fail. So far, they've been proven wrong every time, but it certainly hasn't stopped them from going to that well.

Darkride makes a great point (the way the market for handhelds has been upended by smart phones and tablets) and then goes on to dismiss these points by pointing out the slow initial sales of previous handhelds. I, for one, think the smartphone/ tablet comment has far more weight than the initial sales of the Gameboy or the PSP

You really, really believe that the PSVita that has managed to sell just about 3 mln units by now (that is launched in Japan in 2011, launched in USA and EU early 2012), thus lets take the most positive view taking the USA/EU launch as a startingpoint, about 7 to 8 months in the market by now selling 3 mln. You really REALLY believe it sells 7 mln extra in just 4 to 5 months to go? They have to sell more than double the figures in about half the time its on the market till now. REALLY?

Not even Christmas sales are able to do this dude.

I expect the final figure of the PSVita to sell around 6 to max 7 mln. in its first fiscal year.

BTW, I do like my PSVita, Sony just needs to do a better job pushing the sales. Low installed base gives little 3rd party support which a system needs.

Oh and for those being happy the PS3 sells more, its still millions behind the 360 world wide sales. It might be on par when next gen releases.

This holliday, i think AC 3: liberation, Blops declassified, Persona 4: golden, and PASBR can move some units for vita. I don't know how much but those titles are compelling for non vita user.

Next year will be interesting though because some monster hunter style games will release for vita which are soul sacrifice, god eater 2, and phantasy star online 2. We knew japan love monhun soo much so i'm sure this titles will bring good or maybe great hardware sales for vita. Also, namco just announced Tales of Heart R for vita and tales is big in japan. Fo the rest, Killzone Mercenary, Tearaway, new Bioshock (i think 2k will give some info bout this game), FF X HD, Dragon's Crown, a possible FF Type-0 sequel, and maybe a new KH / GTA (just like psp who had it's own KH / GTA) can revitalize vita from bad sales.

Thanks for the response. I think Blops will do poorly but the others should do well. With the real MonHun on the 3DS I'm not sure what kind of impact clones are going to have however.

But yeah, in the main I agree with you, that's a pretty decent lineup. I hope they help the Vita, it's great tech and deserves a shot.

For the PS3 that is likely due to the launch of the super slim. But I have no idea why the Xbox would see a spike at the same time unless they ramped up the discounts and bundles to try and counter the PS3 surge.
