Need For Speed: Most Wanted Is “Better With Kinect”, Says Producer

The notorious advertising slogan for Microsoft’s motion-gaming device may be much ridiculed these days, but Criterion producer Chris Roberts has insisted that the new Need For Speed game really does work “better with Kinect”.

So better with Kinect means exactly what? You can use voice commands? Didn't Rainbow six use voice commands without Kinect? Microsoft aren't doing themselves any favors with these better with Kinect and Kinect only games. If these crap games keep coming out before the next Xbox, good luck on having sales anywhere near what Kinects hype did at release.

Kinect provides the software and hardware that actually takes commands and sends them to the console as data. In Rainbow Six the game itself had to be programmed to take your voice and turn it into data the game could use.

But in the end it has the same effect in the game. It does what you tell it...sometimes

Same effect that is so/so as the Kinect does a much better job than the voice recognition developed by Ubisoft at the time. Kinect makes it much easier for a developer to do it.

Kinect will NEVER replace a steering wheel or controller for games that would require them...HOWEVER, Kinect is a tool that allows for a separate experience to be had.

Head tracking in GT5 using the eyetoy give an "optional" experience while playing.

Kinect also allows for head tracking in car games. Developers are also using it on a casual standpoint of allowing the player to use it to steer the car. In Forza 4, Kinect is also used for the Auto Vista where you can walk around the car, get in, start it up, check under the hood etc.

Kinect just allows for a separate experience while playing the game. This is why Chris Roberts is saying it's "better with Kinect" simply because Criterion are using Kinect to give an "optional" added experience.

Simple as that.

What bothers me is that the statement itself is an opinion that they try to pass off as fact.

To me, a game with gimpy motion controls is not "better" for it.

Its like if all Universal movie bluray releases had across the top "One of the best movies ever."

Its just an opinionated statement meant to mislead the masses...

Kinect usage in most cases doesnt have ANYTHING to do with controls. The goal is to enhance the experience.

I loved playing Mass Effect 3 with voice. I didn't have to use it everytime, but there were times when it felt natural to use it and others I chose not to. But, yup it was better than not having it at all.

It's a slogan, people can argue it all day, but the producer from Criterion here says he believes it's better with Kinect.

I agree, the analogy may not be the best but the core of my statement remains true. Saying something is "better" because it has an added feature is an opinion and in my own personal opinion doesnt belong on EVERY single Kinect game.

Something like "Enhanced with Kinect!" would be a much much better slogan to slap on Kinect games.

LOl..you may be dead-on with the enhanced with Kinect slogan, but that sure would be a lame ad camapaign.

It makes me laugh how people literally still focus on the Kinect ad, when we all know it's just a slogan.

No one gets bent out of shape at the PS3 'It does everything' slogan.

But I guarantee you that even though I love my PS3 Slim, it definately does not do everything.

If sony used the same mentality that you have the slogan would have been 'It does a number of things'..lol..now who is going to want to buy that.

They are all simply ads..nothing more nothing less.

The 'masses' arent naive as you believe and if they buy NFS because they own a Kinect and want to use the Kinect features then whats wrong with that?

Plus I don't see anything lame about "Enhanced with Kinect" at all. I don't see it being any different to "Better with Kinect." They are both wrong anyway.

From reading the article, it would seem like Kinect is a tacked on experience to this game. Hopefully motion control isn't implemented into this, and the developers just stick with the voice commands. Why would you need to use a voice command to start your car? Seems unnecessary.

They don't have proper wheel support (Logitech etc) or manual gears but they shoehorn this shite in!!! Surely changing gear and using a wheel would be better? It is a driving game after all!!
