Today the expansion The Western Front for UK indie Gratuitous Tank Battles is available. It's an "alternate-history" tower-defense game involving plenty of tanks which just got a lot more WW2 themed.
The plot of Gratuitous Tank Battles is that the first World War kinda never ended, but got lasers! Now The Western Front pushes it into WW2 as Yanks face the Krauts in Europe through 8 missions.
This week, the Humble Sale has gone back to selling video games, with the titles up for grabs coming from strategy developer Positech Games.
Eskimo Press: "Gratuitous Tank Battles is a tower-defense/RTS hybrid thing set in a world where World War I never ended. Tanks are used alongside mechs and laser riflemen against missile batteries and laser cannons. Sounds cool, right?"
ACE - Having played Positech's first game, Gratuitous Space Battles (GSB), I wasn't entirely certain what to expect with Gratuitous Tank Battles. While I enjoyed the visuals on GSB, the punishing learning curve and lack of advancement in single player turned me right off. Trying to find the most effective build for ships quickly became a chore. For this second offering from Positech, the lessons from the first game seem to have been learned nicely. Gratuituous Tank Battles serves as a worthwhile and enjoyable little tower defense game that also acts as a quick playing RTS.
