Intro from the article:
“Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island” for the SNES is a timeless masterpiece that deserves a deeper look. It’s more than just a game. It’s an entire philosophy of how to approach game design. Game designers should place a big magnifying glass over this game even if it’s not a game you particularly enjoy. There is such an overwhelming wealth of knowledge that a game designer can obtain from analyzing and dissecting “Yoshi’s Island”.
I believe “Yoshi’s Island” should be taught and studied at game design schools the same way films like “Blade Runner”, “Citizen Kane”, and “The Graduate” are studied at film schools. Every single aspect of this game from the level design, gameplay mechanics, boss fights, music, and graphics were created with attention to detail, love, and admiration. Those little nuances and small details separate a good game from a brilliant game.
The Nintendo Switch 2 has set a new record by selling over 3 million units within 24 hours, tripling the PlayStation 4’s previous launch day sales.
Its crazy that it's both the highest selling console on day 1 and people can walk into a store and buy it with no pre order
Unlike the Switch 2 , the Playstation 4 was not sold on the same day in most regions.
Company skipped last year's event.
Not surprising at all.
I mean, they´ll be releasing a new console in a few weeks.
Nintendo has announced its financial results for the full fiscal year, alongside an update to Nintendo Switch shipments and more data, including a prediction for Switch 2 hardware and software.
well, the switch 2 has two holidays in the us, thanksgiving and Christmas.
so id say its fairly possible. the rest of the world will also grab them
Switch and Switch are a different kettle of fish. A sell out at launch by the diehards, strong sales, then the non diehards will be put off by the £75 ($99) games, including the stupid download cards which are topping £65 ($85). Not rocket science to work out how the Switch 2 is going to pan out. The PS5 has sold well, but games at £70, sales have been low. As game sales drop, prices will rise. Sony could knock out all their games for £40 and still make a killing selling more games. There's no denying that a gaming crash is looming.
Not paying for something that's not worth more than the price it was advertised, which is $449 - $499.
Yoshi's Island, man! I remember that game. I should play it again, it's been forever.
This game was fun.. Side scrolling mario games should be as deep as they used to be.. I remember in mario world, if u found all the tokens, the turtle shells turned into mario heads.. lol creepy but cool at the time.. These NSMB games dont feel that fun to me anymore..
This yoshis island game was awesome & had great artwork.. It being used for design schools isnt a bad idea.. Indie devs could make some fantastic HD side scrollers with this as the foundation
I don't entirely agree. While many (not all) of Yoshi's Islands levels are very well designed, they dropped the ball on one of the game's crucial design aspects which is literally "babysitting" baby Mario.
Also, people's preference of SMW and SMB3 runs far deeper than being fun and easy to jump into. At least those games don't have cheap deaths and annoyances like "babysitting."
