DSOGaming writes: "The Farm 51 revealed 3 new enemies which will be featured in their upcoming action/adventure FPS – Project Adventurer. The new enemies will play a pivotal role in the story of a private investigator from San Francisco who gets caught up in a Nazi plot to find an ancient and dangerous artifact."
Thirteen1 - You’ve probably heard about Project Adventurer by now; the upcoming FPS from Farm 51 has caused quite the internet stir for apparently looking like an Uncharted rip-off. But the thing is…this promising game doesn't look like a rip-off at all. And that’s coming from a bona fide Uncharted fan boy.
Maybe if they didn't make their character and sidekick look so similar, they wouldn't get the comparisons...
http://s2.n4g.com/media/11/...
First in-game screenshots and details for The Farm 51's, Adventurer
So it has snowy mountains, pirateships and temple ruins in addition to the jungle enviroment and samey characters. Not bad at all.
Graphics looks not even close to Uncharted. Uncharted Lightning is still the King!
Even though I love the Uncharted Franchise, I don't really get the kind of stupidity behind calling anything that is a Treasure hunter game an 'Uncharted Wannabe' when Uncharted itself was 'inspired' by Tomb Raider, that and this game is an FPS not an Action adventure which is Third person....
How is this being called a WANNABE when it's an entirely different Genre and it's just simply Treasure-hunter related? By all means if Nolan North voiced someone then it'd be too similar from that alone, but...
Fanboys getting up in any arms and calling this game a Wannabe or Copy is just plain stupid....
Uncharted wasn't inspired by Tomb Raider.
Both were inspired by the same 'pulp adventure genre' foundations, which have existed for decades. In the form of books, comics and movies.
Gameplay is very different. Tomb Raider was much more of a platformer and Uncharted is more of an action/shooter (with platforming). Well, at least until Crystal Dynamics decided to take a more Uncharted-ish approach with the reboot.
Now, regardless of this game's FPS approach, look at the visual design. Some of these screens look a bit like Shambhala from UC2.
So sure, there are some similarities.
But that doesn't mean that it's a clone or wannabe or rip off.
the author is obviously a fanboy as well. there have been plenty of games in this setting since pitfall... especially in the isometric style of game. then there are movies over the last 100 years.
No one above said anything of what you claimed.
Typical hater. You're quick to point the finger at Sony for "copying"(based on your commnet history you bashed Battle Royale, LBPK and Move) but also quick to defend other games, just like you're doing now. Are you sure you're not the one with the double standards.
And this game has gotten no where near the same amount of criticism that Uncharted did about it being a "Tomb Raider" rip off.
uncharted is still the best console looking game untill the last of us,beyond 2 souls are out
@patriot
This game borrows heavily from Uncharted and battle Royale borrows heavily from SSB. OK? Can you please shut up about this already? There can be no defence for Battle royale since even the devs say it borrows heavily from SSB. Noone should be dumb enough to try and say they are not related somehow. If they do just point and laugh.
Same as this game. I've seen many many fanboys say this game is nothing like Uncharted so you going on about SDF is kinda dumb. Just point and laugh I tell you.
looks like Call of Duty and Uncharted had sex in The Farm 51
weird shit can happen in area 51
I don't get how this is a wannabe. It's like saying Assassin's Creed 3 is an American Conquest wannabe just because the settings are similar.
I think that as long as you don't compare everything in this game to uncharted then it may actually be a pretty good game. But since they are so similar, it's going to be impossible to ignore the comparisons. That may be the downfall of the game from the get go
Correct me if I'm wrong, but in one of the screenshots it seems as if this is an FPS. Without the third person traversal, cover/shooting, and stealth mechanics, I don't see how this can be like Uncharted, apart from the setting (which if anything is an Indiana Jones setting :P)
I get it, though I wouldn't call it an Uncharted wannabe if it's an FPS.
Isn't it obvious? The title is designed to bait you into clicking on this and then his site.
I only clicked here to point this out.
If it has aliens it's a halo clone, if it has jungle settings it's an uncharted clone, etc etc.
If it has characters from that system into a beat-em-up game, it's a Smash Bros clone...
Haha
Yup. So true. I wish people would judge PS All Stars by its own merits and not complain that it reminds them of Smash Bros. Smash Bros. is fun no doubt, but it's gonna be cool to see how Sony's version plays.
On Topic, this game might LOOK like Uncharted but I have my doubts about it being anywhere near as GOOD as Uncharted in story or gameplay.
I like how people praise Uncharted as the king but when someone takes inspiration from it at all they bash that game... Wouldn't you want them to take inspiration? If you loved that game wouldn't you want to play something that can be just as fun but with a new twist?
Im interested in this game.
lol
Naughty Dog: "Gritty Xbox Shooters Shaped Uncharted"
http://www.nowgamer.com/new...
is uncharted a tomb raider wannabe....................... ....no, just because it has a similar setting doesn't make it a wannabe.
The Uncharted-Tomb Raider thing was always a weak defense. Aside from temples, these games have nothing in common. You might as well say Uncharted is like The Legend of Zelda. Makes as much sense.
..... Lets see what they have in common.
Athletic main character
Platforming
Third person camera
Very similar settings
... you want me to continue into things you may not have noticed? It was never a weak defence and Uncharted is a tomb raider wannabe but its a good game and i dont care and neither does anyone else.
Ever since Uncharted 2 released everything is a wannabe if it even looks similar (although there was one clear rip off a while back)...
In fact i'll take this one step further! Im not buying Battle Royale because its a wannabe SSMB...
Pekolie
How many games have unathletic, out-of-shape characters? There are literally too many 3rd-person games to count, which all probably have platforming to an extent. You just described adventure games in general with the first 3 things.
It's funny how the new Uncharchick game is basically, verbatim, ripping off Uncharted's style, but people still think a few similarities made Uncharted a Tomb Raider rip off...
Ironically, the latest Tomb Raider game is more of an Uncharted clone than a 'Tomb Raider' game. Now that's funny
Necrovision is pretty damned awesome, can't wait to see what Farm51 come up with.
The shooting mechaics in uncharted 3 were really bad. Very very poor aiming and clunky slow controls and a little to much empasized on such a poor developed mechanic. I sure hope they learned their lesson or the last of us will be just a pretty game with horrible gameplay. Btw. It sure seems like all sony releases anymore are thirdperson games?
You need to replay it with the patch that added in Uncharted 2's aiming model if you want to try something that's smoother and a bit faster. With it, I died less than half the times on Crushing than I did on Normal with the original model.
they have guns...its a call of duty wannabe...heh...funny that we have to group everything based on current popular culture.
Yeah... And if it has cars and racetracks it was copying the Gran Turismo franchise... There is tons of room for quality games, and even ones not so good. We as a group should be praising, and not fingerpointing. The more choices we have, the better.
What kind of basement dwelling a-hole disagreed? So you are basically saying that it is good that we are saturated with C.O.D. clones, Halo map packs? You are one of the reasons the industry, and gamers as a whole are not taken seriously.
LOL no doubt...i wonder if people even think before they do that? I admit I will off topic comment at times, but you hit the nail on head sir.
Interesting note: We're actually nearing the 120th anniversary of Robert Louis Stevenson's "Treasure Island."
I seriously don't understand this fixation of calling an adventure FPS an "Uncharted rip-off" or an "Uncharted wannabe." There's no patience to discover what possible new ideas the game may contain.
No one explored before Uncharted. Ever. Just like no fought wars before CoD or raced cars before Gran Turismo.
I feel the need to point out that i'm being entirely serious. Before Dino Crisis, dinosaurs didn't exist, then they existed in the past due to a temporal anomaly and eventually went extinct as they developed chronic arthritis from playing Street Fighter 2 and couldn't use cutlery so they starved.
And that is a FACT.
I dont see how this is an uncharted wannabe? Most action/adventure games that wanna stay true to the old style roots of action/adventure have to be based in area's like this game, uncharted, and many others are based in, if anything uncharted is an indiana jones rip-off.
New game = Clone of popular game in the media
- New FPS = Cod Clone
- New MMORPG = WoW clone
- New Thrid Person Adventure game = Gears Clone unless adventuring is involved then Uncharted Clone
- Open World Sandbox = GTA clone
- Arena Shooter = Quake Clone
etc etc etc
Can't we just judge games based on their own merits lol
Well said! And this is hardly an "Uncharted Clone". Last time I checked Uncharted was set in modern times and was a 3rd person shooter. This is much more Indiana Jones...
This is where insanity takes over. Uncharted was equated to a Tomb Raider and Indiana Jones clone though the only real similarities where the adventuring theme and treasure finding. This game uses those as well as the partner-in-adventure dynamic without even trying to make the characters not seem like close relatives to Drake and Sully. If it was only about the scenery I'd be right there with you guys. But be real for a second. Of the three major aspects of the game that we know of (FPS, theme, characters) there are direct links between two of them. It's pretty damned similar to Uncharted. Also. . . How is that a bad thing? Uncharted is one of the best series ever made. If this thing is executed well it's going to be an incredible game.
@Biggest I can agree with what you are saying. Certainly there are similarities between all the games you mentioned. That all said, I think the reason I take an exception to the term "Uncharted Clone" as it puts a negative tag to a game we have yet to play. If they had said "Uncharted like game" or "Uncharted inspired game" I would be fine with it but tossing out "Uncharted Clone" insinuates inferior game and we really know nothing about this game yet beyond the little info we have.
I guess I will end it like this... if you hear someone call an FPS game a COD Clone is not your instant thought a game that isnt as good and never will be? (assuming you hold COD in a positive light).
@StayStatic, you forgot that any hack and slash game is a God of War clone.
Reading the article, what does this mean?
"Project Adventurer is planned for a 2013 release for X360 and PC –with plans for a Playstation 3 version of the game"
Why not just say for release on the pc, 360 and ps3? Will the ps3 version be delayed? Do they think ps3 fans will not be receptive because of Uncharted? Or is ps3 too hard for them to figure out?
a FPS uncharted sounds intriguing unless it has platforming. though i dont really see the Unchartedness other than adventure theme :L
It could be argued that every game made these days is a rip off of another game. This is silly. I did not give the author of the article the satisfaction of clicking on the link. It is just a baiting article. This is something that thrives here on N4G. The Game looks good, but I will have to see much more before I can decide if I will purchase full price, wait for the bargain bin or pass it up all together.
I'm just curious why is it being compared with Uncharted? I don't understand. Besides the fact you might treasure hunt in this game, what is the core similarity? Because I'm not seeing why this is an uncharted wannabe. Not only that this game is in first person. So what gives?
lolol. How can Uncharted fans be mad when Uncharted borrows from so many other games.
The character and the art style do look similar. I want to see if they can make you care about the main character or hero in this case, because most of the time you won't see your character body. Maybe just between cut scene and we all know game with first person perspective. You don't really care much about the main character or know what he's look like.
But what about Uncharted itself? What was original about it? It certainly wasn't the 8-hour campaign, the linearity, the cover-based shooting, the light platforming elements, the Nolan North voice acting, the regenerative health system and checkpoints that hold your hand through the game's toughest parts, nor was the tacked on multiplayer with the same old game modes that has been done to death in 3,629 other shooters...It sounds like Uncharted is a wannabe of something.
Here is a 30 minutes off-screen footage from it. There are some Uncharted elements in it, it's not that hard to find them. Needless to say that it looks interesting. Go to 4:32 and you will hear him saying Uncharted. Obviously, he did not mention it just for fun.
http://youtu.be/OF0x5tgvY9k
Doesn't look that bad but i hope theirs just some creativity that will seperate this from Uncharted.
Man, must be frustrating for the developers to have the media so relentlessly force their game under Uncharted's shadow.
Looks good.
Also i've played every tombraider game since psx and it's nothing like uncharted.
Both adventure games and that's all.
Oh my gosh, in the second image, there is a plane crash in a jungle, UC1 much?!
Oh well, still looks a lot of fun. I mean, I love Uncharted, and I also love FPS games, so the mix seems good in this one.
"A new game called 'Adventurer' made by a polish studio called The farm51 looks pretty amazing, but the catch here is that it looks a wee bit similar to Uncharted."
Am I the only one that thinks the start of the video (the environment) looks a lot like Uncharted Drakes Fortune?
I think that is just his way of ripping on Uncharted by insisting it's simply Tomb Raider.
Crysis has jungle, the upcoming Far Cry 3 has jungle, BFBC2 has jungle and there are many more games with jungle but do any of them said to be Uncharted rip-off? NO!
this is not about the jungle but just like Unearthed, this is a blatant shameless rip-off!
@Drithe
I would say it was inspired by Indiana Jones and not a direct rip off/wannabe. I challenge you to find a good Indiana Jones game worth playing, that matches the quality of any of the Uncharted games.
The Indiana Jones game on the old xbox was an awesome game hulk_bash1987. It doesn't share the same graphics what with it being made a generation before, but at the time it looked great and had some amazin brawling physics.
Regardless I think Drithe was referring to the movies of which indiana was a little more famous for ;)
He's gone for the week :( ...went to see a Bell Biv DeVoe concert
EDIT below:
Theres some problems but...I'm getting there....I'm getting there
Did you finally ever manage to pull off floating-head doctor? XD
EDIT: lol
I'm guessing Body still behaves like he's your boss when you call him? :D I never understood how he'd know you're calling him when he didn't even have ears. Haha, I wish you the best of luck then! :D
Aww... poop... I want to see BBD in concert!!! That would be dope.
On Topic: The game looks kinda cool even if it is an Uncharted rip off.
I don't see this as a rip off of uncharted what so ever. Both this game and UC borrow heavily from Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider. To say that it's a ripoff of UC isn't accurate. I look forward to this game. It should be a great Adventure. LOL
It clearly is an uncharted rip off. you see the characters and environment and your telling us that its not trying to specifically be like uncharted?! seriously?! I'm sure if this game wanted to "copy" Indiana jones and tomb raider, wouldn't you think they would have released this game at least before, say uncharted 2 came out??
Had anyone watched that video without the headline they would have immediately said "That was fast. Didn't know they were making an Uncharted FPS!"
Show me one pre-Uncharted Indiana Jones or Tomb Raider game that looks like that. Just one! I dare you.
@ ARMY
I seriously was not aware Naughty Dog invented the jungle!! I really must study history more.......
It looks more like an Indiana jones game than uncharted.
that scene, looks identical to a scene in drakes fortune when you just find the U-boat in the middle of the amazon....
@blastoise Sony had ar on the ps2 via eye toy, I think Sony may have purchase their tech because this looks like eye of judgement or invisimal for the psp.
it looks like a rip off because the guy who looks like nathan drake is similarly dressed the same and the other guy looks like sully and that pic looks like its at the jungle scean with the german u boat....people who say this isnt a ripoff are most likely 360 users seeing how they dont have uncharted for 360 and they are saying its like an uncharted FPS.....hmmm
Uncharted was heavily inspired by Indiana Jones from treasure hunting, environment, to solving puzzles. Even Nathan Drake is somewhat of a poorman's Indian Jones played by Harrison Ford in terms of attitude/character.
People call it a rip-off because of:
1. The environment
2. Treasure hunting/puzzle solving
3. The main male character
All of 3 of these reasons Uncharted did NOT originally invent. The game is not even a 3rd person game. In addition, the main character dresses in classic turn of the century explorer attire. Just like the main hero from the 1999 movie The Mummy: http://blogs.amctv.com/movi...
@h311rais3r
"seriously was not aware Naughty Dog invented the jungle!!"
Such is the power of Playstation.
They did rip a lot of uncharted however saying that it looks like a very poor game even at early stages. Just look at the puzzles they are so 1990's and the flying spears traps? Seriously? Last time I saw them was timesplitters! Not to mention the weapons which belong more in a war game like dual wielding smgs.
I agree with ya mewhy, people just love to categorize everything based on their own short term memories. Sure games like Uncharted might rekindle the popularity of games with "hero adventure" treasure hunters but that has always been around in film and games. If people would stop comparing everything against everything else and taking experiences as they come...they would be a lot less disappointed in life. It should be a great adventure.
This site is completely infested with trolls. Whats worst is when the comments and forums isn't trolling, the so called "news" would be. No wonder I hardly visit N4G anymore.
How dare you say anything has better graphics than Uncharted? That's blasphemy.
First of all how can you say that from a few non HD videos we have seen so far? thats just fanboysim at its best..
Seriously, people wouldn't be freaking out if UNCHARTED RIPOFF wasnt in the title.
After watching the gameplay, the only similarities with uncharted are an airplane crash, puzzle solving, and 2 male characters.... That's it
No set piece moments, no climbing..... It's an fps to, not even third person
The game actually reminds me more of farcry.... I'm actually kind of interested in it
Guys, games get inspired by other media, and other games as well.... It's how this industry grows and progresses....
Find one original game, today
I love uncharted, but I can't say it's an original concept.... But it's still a concept I love, loved Indiana jones, and I plan to pick up tomb raider... And I might get this too
Valkyria Cronicles is pretty original.
It's ok you people. This game only happens to have similar characters and locations than Uncharted has. It's not trying to rip anything off. It a complete coincidense.
The issue is the character blatantly look like Nathan etc.
A lot of the scenery showed also seems similar tp specific parts of Uncharted. Rather than both games having a jungle, these guys have constructed the same thing in the same way.
The language in this article is damage control setting the tone for Sony fans to attack a unforeseen game on xbox and not PS lol. Since when does being in a jungle mean it's a uncharted ripp off? Looks more like Indiana Jones but darker with a heavier focus on the supernatural(more like the Mummy movies but dark) Uncharted is Tomb Raider with Gears Of War gameplay mechanics. The Oringal Xbox had more games like this. Other than some plants, 007 Golden Eye has more in common with this game than Uncharted. A crashed Air Plane in the Jungle concept came about because Uncharted? LOL
*sigh* no one is saying its a rip off because of the jungle! There's more to it, like someone said above that the picture looks exactly like the scene when they find the U-boat.
That's why people are calling it a rip off. And why label them as Sony fans? Maybe they actually do think its a rip off regardless of platform.
In PC terms it doesn't look that good at all, in comparison with a lot of games.
The thing that will set them apart is the story for the Uncharted series, i'm not convinced these guys will match it with a far smaller studio.
Ya funny how this is a rip off... Super Smash Bros....errrrr I mean the Sony Smash Bros isn't.
I see what you did there Chunky Lover. ;)
PS All Stars Battle Royale (PSASBR) is not as much of a rip off as it seems to be.
SSBB is the only game in its genre, and Sony is making another game in the same genre. Calling PSASBR a rip off of SSBB is the same as calling every FPS a rip-off of Wolfenstien 3D.
The comparison of all FPS to Wolf3d doenst quite fit. Had you specified particular games then it would make more sense. Like the game NOVA as being a ripoff of halo. That is a more direct comparison than a generalized statement of (insert FPS) compared to Wolf3d.
The PS allstars is sony's version of SSB so in that sense it could be construed as a rip off. Just as this game "adventurer" being more closely akin to uncharted.
It isnt a new thing to try and capitalize on the popularity of something and make a similar title. Pretty much there are several gameloft titles that are obvious clones of bigger named games.
Same thing happens in movies and tv. They arent trying to undermine the quality and popularity of the originals. They are simply trying to get in on the action and get a slice of that particular genre in the market.
Besides, there are some really good knockoff titles out there. They dont get as much attention because people see them as knockoffs and may not be inclined to give them a chance.
@Prince_Dim-Lu
When did anybody ever say that Sony All stars battle royal wasnt a rip off of Smash bro's?
Even the devs admitted it borrows heavily.
Its a rip off, we're past that now, get over it.
@tehnoob3
Look up TMNT: Smash Up, Battle Stadium DON, DreamMix TV World Fighters, Jump Ultimate Stars, Cartoon Network: Punch Time Explosion and Viewtiful Joe: Red Hot Rumble. Super Smash Bros. isn't the only game in the 2.5D Party Fighter genre.
lol and now we have people that were so quick to call anything Sony makes a rip-off now holding their tongue on a game that looks very similar to a PS game... gee I wonder why.
Game looks decent but I'm glad naughty dog is resting uncharted as I don't think another one real soon will go over as well as it will start to get redundant and old. This is true with any game and I'm looking at you as well gears.
What? A sane comment from you jazz? Are you drunk? LOL!
Battle royale is a ripoff of SSB. I don't see how anyone can say it isn't since even the devs say it borrows heavily from it.
This Adventurer game borrows heavily from Uncharted in characters and enviroments (not just jungle). Get over it.
@sourav93 below
MS changed that in 2005-2008 by acting like a child. They got the entire USA and media behind them acting childish too. It's been a crazy gen.
@Prince_Dim-Lu
That statement works both ways, Why can people call Allstars a rip off but fans of Uncharted are taking crap for saying this is a rip off?..
This is closer to Uncharted than that other saudi Uncharted clone and that game took way more crap for it than this one..
I wonder if it's because it's being released for 360..
for the love of god how was MS acting like a child and got the media behind them...huh. please explain to us. you keep making shit up to fit your propaganda that MS has this so called power over everything in america because everything don't go sony's way. the only child here is you. grow up and stop the BS conspiracy theroy. oh and I'm still waiting for you to provide a link where MS said anything about installs on the ps3 with GTA4.
ontop: other than the charators. theres really nothing that makes this a uncharted clone. unless you talking about the jungle. which is mainly in many games other than uncharted. i honestly think people are still upset that PSASB is being called a SSBM clone that they need something to rag on.
Though it's eerily similar, if this games looks and feels anything like uncharted, I would have to give props to the devs. In my opinion all gamers should have the Oncharted experience, be it through Uncharted games themselves, or by similar games like this one. Where have the days gone where people were just excited about new and awesome games, and not arguing over which platform has the better games. Gaming should be about one thing, and one thing only; fun. Peace.
So basically generic repetitive clunky gunplay (and lots of it) followed by a decent story and good cinematics followed by crappy annoying puzzles climbing....I played all 3 and it wasn't fun, ratchet and clank was fun, sly cooper was fun....uncharted honestly sucked.
@_Aarix_
Uncharted doesn't suck. And I wouldn't say its repetitive or clunky either. I admit some of the puzzles could be better, but they're not annoying. They aren't perfect games. But it is a great series hence all the 9/10's and 10/10's it gets.
@_Aarix_ I don't think you've even played the Uncharted games. And if you have, you were ready to hate them before you even put the disc inside. I know it's your opinion, but next time make that clear. If you didn't find it fun, that's cool. But passing any judgement on any game as a fact, that's not the right. The series doesn't have an average Metacritic rating of 90+ for nothing.
In first person, because I doubt a small studio could achieve the kind of animation fluidity and dynamism that characterizes Nathan Drake in Uncharted. And if they could, the real difficulty lies in striking a balance between animation and player control/responsiveness. Nice try though.
What a pain finding this
http://www.youtube.com/watc...
30 min vid of it, can't find anything else
Thats a old video. The site has a new video. But you can also check it over here: http://www.youtube.com/watc...
Nice find... Going to watch it now...looking like it has Historical supernatural mytholigy? Wonder if the player will have magic/powers
never mind was trying to find a video of the game and i found one.
This is just pathetic and i thought unearthed was a bad ripoff this just takes the cake. How anyone can stand in front of a camera and talk about their inspiration when you can see character designs and everything is a 1 on 1 ripoff of uncharted.
Anyone can stfu about pasbr now cause the only thing that game has in common with smash is.
-4 players
-crossover
-UI
-fighting game
It is NOT a 1 on 1 ripoff. The game looks more like Far Cry than Uncharted. Nathan Drake is nothing more than YOUNG INDIANA JONES, so if any rip offs were mentioned, look there because Lara Croft has a lot to say about that too.
As for PASBR being compared to Smash Bros....it's a fair comparison. As yourself...did they really have to make this game? Then ask why? Also, why is Activision making a Walking Dead FPS? Because they are trying to cash in on Telltale games' success.
You're a cry baby of the highest order majie. Maybe it is a rip-off. This company isn't exactly Naughty Dog in terms of staff numbers or funding. These studios make games like this to get on the map, and by all accounts it ain't looking too bad. Uncharted was inspired by many games before it, and obviously, it's inspired this small Polish team in the same way.
Also, the Playstation All Stars defense is high order irony.
I've played the Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider games. None of them looked like or played like Uncharted before Uncharted. They didn't have the same look or feel. However, this game has a very similar look and sound. Obviously can't comment about the feel and since it's a FPS I doubt it'll match anyway. . .
Edit: Seriously. Is that NOT Nate and Sully? I could see NPCs in the game calling out "Nate! Hey, N... My bad. Thought you were someone else."
Majie is right because there is a game called the outfoxies that has like 80% of the things in ssb but pre-dates it by two years such as dynamic battlefield, weapon pick up and the ability move to other parts of the stage like ssb, only thing it didn't have was 4 player simultaneous combat.
Well, at least it does look quite better than that more flagrant Arabic rip-off of Uncharted (Unearthed).
If Sony get mad or even tries to do something then Eidos ,spielberg, Lucas should have something to say about drake.Cause Indy & Lara were doing the puzzle solving ,car chase ,shooting ,climbing before drake showed up.(TRTHURTS)
Its okay to be inspired by uncharted but they should have use more varied character designs.
okay after seeing the video I wouldn't call it stunning like the author did, the flames, water, vegetation and weather effect doesn't look half as good as uncharted 2, let alone uncharted 3, but I guess it's a fairly good attempt from a studio I've never even heard of...
The "stunning" part is that they tried to rip off a game in which they have no hope of surpassing.
If you are copying something and make it better then I'm ok with that, but if you can't do better than the original then it's just a cash grab, just like all the bad remakes of good movies.
It's called Far Cry. Made before Uncharted
@Shackdaddy-That's what I was saying. The Uncharted comparison is absurd since it looks more like Indiana Jones and we all know Drake is a copy of him.
Sony fanboys will try and fight you over any negative remarks about Uncharted, but the truth is...it's not that original. It's an amazing game, but they did borrow from others. The last of us also looks amazing and we can clearly see they borrowed from there too. Naughty Dog to me is like Rockstar, THEY CAN DO NO WRONG
@Floetry101-My bad dude, I accidentally disagreed with you when I meant to agree. You are absolutely right. Disagrees only come from Uncharted fans that cant handle the truth. Just because they borrowed doesnt make it a bad game.
Seems more like they are just trying to recreate Indiana Jones to me. They even have the cart ride...
I don't think any of the kids on this site are old enough to have seen a real Indiana Jones movie. So they all think Uncharted is a new, and original idea. When it is sure as hell not.
Looks more like FarCry in an IndianaJones setting.
Not sure how well it would work. When I think of 'adventure', I think of platforming, which is a pain in the first-person view.
Actually, this game is done by the guys from NecroVision, a well received horror themed World War I shooter.
A number of them are ex-People Can Fly developpers.
It's a small team so they don't use cutting edge tech, but NecroVision was pretty damn fun, had a good deal of personanlity despite using a global war setting, and this definitely has potential.
The fonts used in the game look more like those from Indiana Jones to me. The authors of the article just namedropped Uncharted to get attention.
Am I the only one who thinks this looks interesting? It's not like it's a cheap knock-off, they're doing motion-capture and everything.
It's a shame that people tend to stay away from this genre, even in movies because of the fear of being labeled a rip-off. Yet, there are tons of books and old serials based on it, and it's one of my favorites.
No you're not the only one bro. I'm very interested too.
Unfortunately, you should know where you are and why this game'll get hatred.
I think so as well. It looks like it could be a lot of fun.
I love these treasure hunting/adventure genre games.
Given the time period it feels very much like an Indiana Jones game more than Uncharted for me. I get the similarities to Uncharted...but honestly...I think they should just call him Dr. Jones and get some funding from Lucas Arts already. lol
There's Some Uncharted here but not a full blown rip-off like Unearthed...
The puzzles look like something out of Uncharted and those two character models do remind you of Nate and Sully, more than Harrison Ford and Sean Connery.
The rest of the game seems to be a tribute to the 3 good Indiana Jones films and the one bad one that I blame that pig Lucas for...
I love it how people call this a rip-off but they dont call playstation all stars a rip off of brawl lol.
Expect people they say its a clone because its the same genre XD
They say this is a clone because its got nearly the same looking charters and environment
So, by that logic, can we call this an Indiana Jones rip off, and not a Uncharted one since Indiana existed way before either of these two?
@Feralkitsune Indiana Jones is still just a movie. And obviously Adventurer looks like Uncharted, exact same color scheme and characters are similar. This is not a bad thing. :)
yeah cause there is no doubt that does too looks exactly like Sully and Drake from the first look
So all adventure games with a few puzzles set in a forest and icy areas are a rip-off of Uncharted? I love the series as much as anyone but that's just ridiculous.
Huh, wha-...?
That's not Uncharted in the article image?
(looks again)
Nope, not Uncharted image.
My mind told me it was, but my eyes says "hmm...".
I would prefer a first person plus third person experience. One game I enjoyed that did this well was Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Cover and close combat in third person and first person in other. Maybe Sony would get upset if there was any third person perspective gameplay? Doubt it, they seem comfortable and secure with their placement in this genre.
"Not Much Details are known about it, but it will be released on the Xbox 360 and PC sometime next year unless Sony has something to do about it."
Unless Sony has something to do about what now? The game has potential I'll give it that But Sony isn't worried about this game. Trust me, they have a much bigger things to worry about at the moment.
People can be so stupid this gen. In the Golden Age of gaming if someone came up with a good idea, it wasn't a problem if anyone adapted it or used it. Now all I here all day is rip off, rip off, RIP OFF! You spoil the experience of any game if that is all you go into the game thinking. PASBR and LBP Kart could very well be an awesome games but all most idiots keep wondering how much of it is and isn't like SSB and Mario Kart and that is all that is important. To the point that people are so stupid they actually think Uncharted directly ripped off Gears of War with taking cover thereby making Uncharted a 'Gears clone'.At what point in time did gamers get so warped, stupid and twisted?
Adventurer ripped off Uncharted, Uncharted ripped off Tomb Raider, Tomb Raider ripped off Indiana Jones, Indiana Jones ripped off East of Borneo and The Mask of Fu Manchu. Everything I listed are treasure hunting, adventure media properties. The argument of who ripped off who is futile seeing as how EVERYTHING HAS ALREADY BEEN DONE!
"EVERYTHING HAS ALREADY BEEN DONE!"
Exactly and that is why this gen is mostly boring and all they care about is improving graphics. :(
It is just me or anyone else who also think that only Indie games (Journey, Bastion, Braid, Minecraft, etc....) are still pushing for new innovative ideas?
Don't mind the Unchart Fanatics, they just start playing game when Unchart launched.
I absolutely love Journey. Bastion and Braid I got with the Indie Humble Bundle this year through Steam. They are amazing games. Indie games are great because they take ideas that either have or haven't been used and give them a special twist regardless of graphical prowess.
Don't get me wrong, I love Uncharted, U2 is one of my favorite games, but the argument should be "Who does adventure better?" Is it Naughty Dog with Uncharted, Eidos with Tomb Raider, or is it Indiana Jones (which IMO is overrated like Star Wars).
BTW the new Tomb Raider looks so good!
I don't know why every one gets butt hurt about games being similar to others. Nobody considered King of Fighters a street fighter clone nor did they call tekken a virtua fighter clone. An adventure game is just an adventure game. I remember when Uncharted 1 came out and people cried about it being a tomb raider clone. These devs are making an adventure game and pay homage to a great one, leave them be.
As much as I like Uncharted (haven't played the 3rd one), Uncharted fans really annoy me.
Treasure hunting, jungle exploring, globe trotting, gun-slinging action adventure is quite a well covered genre. Not to mention this appears to be an FPS set in the past.
What's wrong with being inspired by others anyway? Think of the amount of great games we wouldn't have if ideas weren't reused - Uncharted would certainly be one of them.
The point is that those characters in the game look a little too familiar, the game has even the same setting.
This game looks ok, but this game will not be right not being 3rd person. I dont know, a game like this fits better seeing the character and its surroundings. If it was third person, then you can call it an Uncharted rip off. Thus the game would be called retarded.:)
Naughty Dog already move on to other thing, while these guy playing catch up.
The part I find funny is those defending this game in "being influenced" by Uncharted, yet they'll insult Uncharted for "copying" Tomb Raider and Indiana Jones.
When Naughty Dog have stated they were influenced by Indiana Jones plenty of times (even had Harrison Ford "play" it for a Japanese advert while commenting on it), and Tomb Raider is NOTHING like Uncharted. At all. The only thing they have in common is they go into old temples and look for special items. In fact, Tomb Raider took more from Uncharted than Uncharted ever took from Tomb Raider.
Anyways, I personally don't mind what this game is doing. But for anyone to NOT see the similarities is ridiculous. It's not enough to call it a rip-off, but enough to see they've probably had their developers play and re-play Uncharted 1-3.
It's an adventure game, and you go on adventures and discover, it isn't like it is an original idea. (Not to mention people haven't even played it or know the story).
Uncharted was THE biggest rip off of Tomb Raider (animation, jumping, gun play) and Indiana Jones (if you want to call exploring a rip off), apart from the 'plot' of some monster things. There was nothing original about the game at all, and yet it is known to be one of the best PS3 games (Still my favourite franchise for PS3).
The ONLY similarities I see that could have been 'ripped off' is the 2 characters do look pretty similar, but then again, Drake and these guys were both adventurers so the clothes you are going to wear are going to be pretty damn similar (a quick google image search for 'adventurer' can prove my point).
Also, yes, you would have expected that the research of an adventure game would be to play adventure games and watch adventure movies, I can GUARENTEE ND did this with Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider.
TL;DR Same setting =/= same game. Or maybe we should call every WW2 game, tennis game, RPG, MMO a rip off of each other.
Uncharted is more grounded the tr,lara is more acrobatic than drake and drake has other character to lean on where as Lara was solo, the comparison to Indiana jones may be valid but seeing trailers for tintin you would have seen Steven spielberg talking how people compared the to,though tintin existed before ij.
Oh and what do you know, that's because Tin Tin is also about an adventurer, what a surprise.
Like I also said, people don't even know the story or anything. It could be all solo and there happens to be a quick few minutes with another person, or he could have a partner, like in almost every single adventure movie/book!
Either way, just because it is about adventure and has some jungle/snow doesn't mean it is a rip off. Next people will be saying Bear Grylls is a rip off of Indiana Jones.
I hate the phrase "rip off." These guys actually work hard in developing these games.
I can't believe with a game called "Adventurer" that no-one has mentioned arrows or knees yet. COME ON PEOPLE!
lol what a rip off hahahaha
did the guy went to drakes house and took his cloths or something ?
even the area looks like the scene where drake find the u boat.
well at least the xbots can have a trashy clone to cry about.
anyway expect horrible reviews and sales less than 200k
cmon little xbots i LOVE disagrees hahahahahahahahahaha !!!
If it's an Uncharted rip-off SO WHAT!!
as long as the gameplay is good then you guys can have more Uncharted-type fun until the next Uncharted comes out!
So don't complain about "Uncharted Clones" when half the games out now are "Call of Duty clones".
1. Indiana Jones Movie
2. Pitfall Game
3. Tomb Raider Game
4. Uncharted Game
5. Then etc. etc. etc..
so in reality who is ripping off who! Just enjoy quality games.
wow now ps3 just needs to get a third person shooter starring a guy dressed in a dirt bike helmet and green armor and call himself a soldier no make it blue armor cant steal everything this game only stole 98%
I bet they made everyone who developed it play uncharted 1,2, and 3 before they created the game. Way to be original.
the popularity of the uncharted franchise is really hurting microsoft fanboys. they're so butthurt about this, they have to bring indiana jones into the argument.
Does it look like a rip off of Uncharted? Yes. Do I still want to play it? YES! It looks gorgeous!
YES THIS IS A RIPOFF OF UNCHARTED BUT THE SONY SMASH BROS IS TOTALLY NOT.......ps3 fanboi logic makes my head explode
Yeah, like you have never cried about another game being ripped off? infact you just did in this post of yours and talk about PS3 fanboy logic?
In this game's defense, pretty much everything for the next few years is going to be an "Uncharted ripoff". Naughty Dog is 3 steps ahead of the game. Everyone wants to emulate their greatness and you can't blame them.
man sony fan boys r such hypocrites im not saying all im sure theres some on all sides but when i read the comments on here you guys r the work i mean sony copys nintendo every chance they get and u look the other way but when someone copys sony all hell breaks loose. i do own a ps3 and love it but i wont die for it like u freaks
The game's visuals look alright, but would need more than good visuals for me to buy it. In general it looks boring....BTW, it doesn't look like a rip off.....It is like saying that Battlefield is a Call of Duty rip-off....come on sony fanboys cut the crap.
I am a huge Uncharted fan, and if this game got inspired by Uncharted then so be it because rather they get inspiration from a fantastic game like Uncharted than a game like Crysis or Halo for instance, I for one will be picking this up.
Naughty Dog's Uncharted has raised the bar of the Action/Adventure genre pretty high, if they or anyone else can add more or at least do as good and why not, then be our guests and step forward.
but lets start with the small things, change the name.
It seems like they've put a lot of effort into this and it actually looks good which is ashame because they could have been more original.
They could have changed certain things i.e. not having a crashed red plane or having characters resembling Drake and Sully. Seriously, its not difficult to come up with your own characters and level designs.
It's amusing to see that everybody agrees on the fact that this is a rip-off, but no-one really agrees with what it's a rip-off of.
I don't really see how this is a rip-off at all. Visual Style is similar, but the gameplay looks quite different from Uncharted. (or Far Cry, or CoD).
Hey I've got an idea guys, how about instead of calling every new IP that isn't innovative a rip-off, we instead try out the game and see if we enjoy it?
The gameplay might be different, but the settings, visual style and similar characters are what makes it a rip off.
I'll give you the characters, two of them, which seem rather similar.
Settings? It's set in a jungle, snow and in mines - none of those settings were unique to uncharted, nor is the visual style unique to uncharted.
If it weren't for the characters, I sincerely doubt we'd even be discussing this.
everyone wait till we see this game. it looks like other games. just give them the opportunity to prove that it's going to be a different game...
Is difficult to make an adventure gold game that wont look like Indiana and Goonies, come on!
Every adventure movie took things from history, legends and books and every adventure gold game will take it from movies, history, legends and books too that is why they look very similar.
First thing in común is a map!
Uncharted is more like Tomb Raider than this game to uncharted but they all took pieces from everything.
the background looks similar with uncharted and collecting treasure but i don't think this game can be called a rip-off.
based on this trailer
the villain is a mummy
3rd person view vs. 1st person view.
no free running
how can anyone call this a ripoff. i just don't get it
Well the game has to be good to be compared to Uncharted, so that remains to be seen.
If anything naughty dog should consider a fps version of uncharted. Also there's nothing wrong with being a copy cat. Games have been going this since the beginning of time. Do you remember how haze was sony's answer to halo. That was a big mistake.
Never mention Haze =p
A friend bought me that game as a joke present. Neve finished the story the game was too broken and unplayable, to the point it was kind of funny =p
Felt sorry for the devs though their previous work was good...
That's too funny. I bought that game on release day. Boy was that a mistake. I sold it ASAP.
Considering both games probably took heavy inspiration from Indiana Jones theres no doubt that they will have a similar feel.
Got no problems with that though Uncharted was great and more games in this genre with good story telling sounds pretty awesome to me =D
