Mass Effect 1 the best game in the franchise will finally hit the PS3.That's real good news for PS3 only users/fans of the series.

The Meerkat4222d ago

Any later and it will be on the PS4.

Now that I think about it, imagine how ME could be made to look as a launch game for a new gen.

GrahamGolden4222d ago

it is know that casey is working on a new ME game
probably using the frostbite 2

Knight_Crawler4222d ago (Edited 4222d ago )

I wonder how they are going to work around releasing ME1 on the PS3 since MS published it.

This is almost like the FF7 situation where it can not come to the 360 becuase Sony published it.

Carl_Shocker4222d ago

I don't think the PS4 is going to be that long away...

Besides what I'm thinking about is

Didn't Microsoft Game Studios publish the first game...I mean this is fantastic news if they managed to work around it to release it on the PS3.

May I ask though...if and I said IF this has happened to a game published by Microsoft which is now coming to the PS3, another platform, could the same happen to Bayonetta 2.

Bayonetta 2 is being published by Nintendo...maybe they could work something out so B2 will arrive on the PS3/360 or even in the future on the PS4/Nextbox

BISHOP-BRASIL4222d ago

There's actually many ways to make those ports happen, usually some game companies tell you they can't do it because of publishing rights, but more often than not they could just take legal act or buy said rights and do it anyway, but the whole idea in porting games is to make the most money possible with as little investment as they can, the "suits" don't like to spend money on ports.

For instance, MS only own publishing rights for the original Mass Effect. If Bioware make a rebranded remake (think of Ninja Gaiden Sigma) or a Collection, chances are MS have no say about it. Also, the agreement may had stuff we don't know about as time or platform limitations.

But even if MS actually has a say in ME3 on PS3, it's not like EA can't buy those rights from MS, pockets deep enough granted. I really doubt the agreement wouldn't have a clausule allowing Bioware to buy back those rights anyway.

DrJones4222d ago

Release it on the Wii U. I want to play Mass Effect 1 with the best visuals. (On console thatis.)

_-EDMIX-_4222d ago

@Knight_Crawler-

??? Publishing a game doesn't mean owning the IP.

EA owns the publishing rights and IP to Mass Effect, they published Mass Effect 1 on PC.

MS doesn't own ANYTHING to the Mass Effect series. Nothing.

"on the PS3 since MS published it" MS also published Ninja Gaiden 2....its on PS3 under a different publisher.

Publishing doesn't = owning.

Nintendo Published Perfect Dark and Conkers Bad Fur day....the IP was owned by Rare and BOTH games are on 360 and XB1.

Square owns the FF7 IP and name, they very much can make FF7 on 360. IP is the actual game not the publishing rights.

LMFAO! Whats to "work around" ? They own the publishing rights and IP.....mind you they published ME1 on PC years ago. I'm not sure what your confused about.

sikbeta4221d ago

@The Meerkat

Would not be cheap, that's for sure, port is too late but good for those who didn't play it though

pixelsword4221d ago

Come to think about it, it could fit on one disc.

Agreed. Having the chance to play through all three games at once means that PS3 users finally get to experience the choices/dilemmas and the way the game was meant to be played.

This also means that the last DLC will be out before the collection, because BioWare wouldn't ship an unfinished product.

Rockefellow4222d ago

"BioWare wouldn't ship an unfinished product."

Most inadvertently funny comment of the day.

nrvalleytime4222d ago

@Rockefellow

Completely deliberate. Glad someone caught it. :-)

kneon4221d ago

I played ME1 on PC and the rest on PS3. It doesn't really matter that ME1 wasn't on PS3 since nearly all your decisions have only a superficial impact on the game.

I wonder if the PS3 version will have a cheesy little box since all 3 games will fit on 1 bluray disk.

EVILDEAD3604222d ago

Whoa..didn't see this coming. Throw in ALL the DLC and I'm all in again. Still never went back and played them all.

Easily one of my favorite games this gen. Retarted the first a longtime ago and stopped.

Great day for new gamers getting to play this for the first time.

Evil

MysticStrummer4222d ago

I saw this coming and said so but was bombarded with disagrees in that special N4G way. I think it was pre-ME3 release when I said I'd wait for the inevitable collection to play them all because the ME2 demo had completely turned me off to trying it out on PS3.

srcBFMVBMTH4222d ago

DAMN! I just bought Mass Effect 2 for PS3 a couple of weeks ago!. lol. Now I find out the trilogy is coming to PS3 WITH Mass Effect 1. Hope we can buy Mass Effect separately. Would rather play the actual game then that comic thing. lol

Now time to put some Left 4 Dead, and The Witcher 2 on PS3!!!!!

EVILDEAD3604222d ago

You will be able to buy Mass Effect on PSN seperately.

Not sure if it will come out this year, but who cares especially if they give out the DLC for free.

@ Mystic

It's a great idea but no one ever knew if the original would come out for PS3,because MS published it. But there you have it.

It's hard to say if I will get this in November with so many amazing games coming around that time. But, it may be a personal gift to myself for Xmas.

Life is good..

Evil

srcBFMVBMTH4222d ago

Ehhh, it's cool. I'll probably get it when the trilogy drops to like $40. That way, I didn't really lose any money. It's like getting Mass Effect 1 and 3 for $20 each. I also prefer physical copies over downloads anyway.

MysticStrummer4221d ago

I don't remember the exact circumstances, quote, or conditions, but someone from Bioware stated there was nothing preventing ME from coming to PS3. I think that was about the time ME2 came out but I may be wrong. Once I read that I knew it would most likely happen eventually.

I hope ME1 texture pop ins will be fixed for ps3. For some reason that really anoyed me in ME1, granted not a huge issue. Funny though, personally ME2 was my favorite of the series.

Abdou234222d ago

Only played 2 and it was okay, hated mining. So is it worth it to buy the trilogy ?!

fossilfern4222d ago

ME 1 is worth it alone. It is how the rest of the series should of been in terms of its RPG elements which they stripped down in ME 2 and 3. So I would get ME1 on its own when its out on PS3

despair4222d ago

Don't get too entangled in the hype, ME1 was good but had a ton of problems and its not really like ME2 it was like if KOTOR had growing pains, it was not as good as people keep claiming.

Plus if you hated mining in ME2 then you'll absolutely loathe driving the Mako in ME1, it was god awful and probably killed half the game for me and it was necessary. Story was the best of the series though.

DOMination-4222d ago

Plus all these rpg elements people go on about are no different to those in me3. Sure there was more equipment but most of it was junk. There were more character tree abilities too but it meant classes were very similar because they all overlapped.

Also the combat was shocking. Sooooo bad.

Still my favourite though. I loved the narrative.

Godmars2904222d ago

How can they put ME1 on the PS3 when MS published it? EA's going to buy them out?

If it does happen, includes all of the DLC over the three games, I'd get it. As flawed as the series is.

Knight_Crawler4222d ago (Edited 4222d ago )

I was wondering the samething...Maybe EA and MS worked out some deal where MS getS exclusive content like Porche in Forza or Battlefield 4 excusive DLC.

I do not see MS doing this out of kindness so will be very intresting to see how this unfolds...can EA pull a Team Ninja and call it Mass Effect Omega instead of Mass Effect 1?

If the 3 games come to the PS3 then I will pick up the PS3 version only becuase I want the trilogy on one disk...hopefully they ironed out all the bugs in ME1.

_-EDMIX-_4222d ago

??? EA owns the IP and publising rights. The PC version was published by EA NOT MS.

This is extremely old news.

MS never owned the rights to Mass Effect.....EVER! EA bought the company that owned BOTH Pandemic and Bioware, doing so they bought everthing Bioware owned, including the IP to Mass Effect. MS NEVER owned the ME IP, in fact all that was bought from MS was the publishing rights.

Had Bioware had just left MS, MS would only have a name, they couldn't even be able to make a game with it based on not owning the IP (the characters, plot, world etc, the actually game itself) WHY Project Origins was STILL Fear 2 without the Fear name. Its about the IP, not the publishing rights.

http://www.joystiq.com/2009...

this is Bioware saying this, NOT MS. Only thing actually bought from MS was the publishing rights.

Again....EA published Mass Effect 1 on PC. What exclusiveiy GOES PAST OWNING THE IP? LMFAO!

So EA is some how asking MS to publishing a series they've published more times then MS, a series they own the right to, an series they own the IP to? Are you sure there was any deal at all? LOL! Cause the facts state otherwise. Its MORE then likely EA just waited to port the first ME, just based on making a ME2 on 3 systems and porting ME1 to PC.

Yes i know, 360 fanboys seem to be resting on this "deal" theory, that literally makes NO legal sense. Its even funnier cause MS never even owned the damn IP to ME when they where publishing it. LOL!

DOMination-4222d ago

EA paid a billion dollars for bioware. Would have been a bad deal if IP ownership wasn't included in that!

Christopher4222d ago

Agree 100% with NYC_Gamer.

Even if you've played ME2 and 3 on the PS3, pick this up for ME1. That is if you haven't played it on the PC or 360 already.

Godmars2904221d ago

Chances are if it is happening on the PS3, then all three games will also become available on PSN separately.

princejb1344222d ago

If all 3 games come out on ps3 I'm buying day 1

showtimefolks4222d ago

Damn I have the N7 edition of ME3 and regular version of ME2 on ps3. But I guess time to sell those and buy this collection. The art book and the casing is awesome

Can't wait. Hopefully ps3 version won't be far behind aft xbox360 and pc release

calis4221d ago

Sweet, since my 360 died, I almost bought 2 and 3 on PS3, but now I will just get this when it's released for PS3.

Jazz41084221d ago (Edited 4221d ago )

Microsoft most likley agreed to let the game appear on the ps3. Ms is not all about greed like most on here want to believe as I am sure they did it out of respect for the series and the greater good of gaming and that is not that hard to believe as these companys work together all the time. Its a very old game now and most have allready played it and most of the series is multiplat so I see why they did what they did.

trouble_bubble4221d ago (Edited 4221d ago )

MS spent years advertising Mass Effect as being a feather in the 360 cap, the definitive experience on the 360, best if not only place to play the entire trilogy. Even the ME3 box boasts "better with Kinect". They milked having ME1 for all it was worth. They didn't let anything go for "the greater good of gaming" LOL.

Quote:
"And the original Mass Effect is absolutely an Xbox 360 exclusive, making Xbox 360 the only place to get the full Mass Effect experience".
http://ca.ign.com/articles/...

Have they let the equally old Gears of War go? No. Did last year's Halo Anniversary remake of a 10 year old last gen' game go to PC? No, even though the original was on PC anyways. EA bought BioWare and from that point the writing was on the wall. It was just a matter of time.

OmegaSlayer4221d ago

This is how you deal with fans.
Platinum Games is how you do not deal with fans.

Nice three course meal, but the dessert will leave a bad taste in your mouth!

JakemanPS319944222d ago

i loved the third! one of my favorite games of the year

JANF4222d ago

Im with you... I loved the third also and in my opinion is the best game this year so far.

One of the best trilogies this gen BTW

kma2k4222d ago

The ending was more like getting the check at the end of a really great meal & realising WTF did i spend so much (time, instead of money) on this for.

nrvalleytime4222d ago

Really? Some meals are definitely the price.

kma2k4222d ago

I meant at the end of the game you dont get a check. I felt like a lot of people said at the end of the trilogy "i spent all this time for that" wth

beerkeg4222d ago

That analogy makes no sense at all. Seriously.

You have a great meal, get the check, and wonder why you paid so much money for it, even though it was a great meal.

And somehow this analogy is supposed to make more sense when you substitute money for time.

And then, just to confuse me even more -

'I meant at the end of the game you dont get a check.'

Right....ok.

:/

ChunkyLover534222d ago

Nice set, but I already have all the Limited Edition games for Xbox 360. Mass Effect 1 still my favorite though, definitely sets a better tone and has more RPG elements.

Shepherd 2144222d ago

Mass Effect 2 is my favorite. It's far more character driven than the first game, more romance options, deeper side quests, more satisfaction at the end when you see all your hard work and choices come together.

Not to mention i feel the atmosphere is the best in ME2. Shepard brought back to life and has to go rogue while working with a shady organization, more intimacy and reliance on close friends like Tali, Garrus, and Joker who are always by your side even when the galaxy hates you now, and also standing by new close friends like Grunt and Thane while you prepare your tight-knit team to go on what all evidence points to as a mission with no return.

Mass Effect 1 was great and had a nice tone and RPG elements, but it didn't give me the feeling ME2 did.

ChunkyLover534222d ago

I didn't feel like the Shepard that I played as in ME1, would go along with the overall plot and actions of ME2. I also felt there were less choices when it came to dialog.

I felt a much better connection with my teammates in ME1 for sure. I didn't mind ME2, but it seemed like a simple formula 1.Recruit a member 2.Do a loyalty mission for said member.....REPEAT.

lastdual4222d ago

I agree that ME2 was more character driven, but while the loyalty missions were well done, the main plot unfortunately suffered.

ME2 is still a great game. The combat was clearly improved from the original, but the plot felt more like a collection of side quests than a single epic adventure.

dragonrage004221d ago

The only one ive played so far is ME2 (getting 3 soon), and while its a great game it is slightly overrated IMO. The main threat really takes a back seat to solving your teammates problems, which kills the sense of urgency of the situation. The mining is pointless and time consuming, and the side missions you discover by doing it are mostly terrible. I also found the lack of blindfire very annoying (i have to expose myself to shoot a guy thats standing right in front of me...BS). That said, the game is an great experience like no other, but one that certanly has its problems

Shepherd 2144221d ago (Edited 4221d ago )

Mass Effect 1 didnt truly have more dialog options., it just gave you the illusion that you did. Most of the time you got the same reactions/responses when you chose the middle option and it didn't have any worth to the conversation normally to go neutral.

it's true that ME2 felt more like a collection of sidequests, but ME1 followed the exact same plot formula as KotOR and felt tiresome and predictable as a result. Id rather have sidequests that enhanced my relationships with my squad than that. ME2 just had a more "we're on our own" tone rather than have the Alliance breath down your neck the whole game.

I have no idea how you could have more connection with the characters in the first game. In ME1 they simply don't say as much and you can't get too deep with them. You just mentor Garrus about being a crappy C Sec officer and listen to Wrex's war stories. Joker definitely has less personality and says less in ME1 and the addition of EDI to counter Joker in 2 was excellent. Tali becomes useless after her intro mission in ME1 and has little to talk about other than being homesick and how cool your engine room is. I also never thought of Tali as romance material until she actually had stuff to do in ME2 and became interesting.

+ Show (1) more replyLast reply 4221d ago
Double_O_Revan4222d ago

Still my favorite of the 3.

I assume this release is just the basic games with NO DLC. That would've been too generous for EA. I might have bought it with all the DLC included.

v0rt3x4222d ago (Edited 4222d ago )

That is not a good sign for ME4 in terms of people who were hoping that Shepard's story continues.

TekoIie4222d ago (Edited 4222d ago )

Care to explain why? Because by that logic the Killzone trilogy is bad news for KZ4 as well right?

Kingdom Come4222d ago

The original Halo, Halo 2 and Halo 3 are regarded as a trilogy, Halo 4, 5 and 6 continue Master Chief's story. There where 2 Star War's Trilogies featuring the same characters... I don't see your point.

Godmars2904222d ago

Would rather see someone else's story actually. Someone who has a story and character development, proves their worth, instead of just stand there and is important to things because the story needs them to be.
