The Wii U is a stopgap at best

The Wii U is a step up from its predecessor, but is that enough to keep pace with the market?

The story is too old to be commented.

The article just goes out it's way to make everything sound bad.

Wait for the PS4/Next Xbox before calling the Wii U a stopgap.

The article stated facts but had a few questions. If I say that ps3 AAA exclusives looks better than Wii u exclusives and all its games would I be lying?Or that Nintendo is copying transferring from Sony. Anyway give thanks for the Wiiu having two proper analog sticks and the people who changed the industry by implementing that idea.

I really would love to see exclusive titles on the Wii u that pushes the system almost to the max to differentiate itself from the ps3 and xbox. People will say its too early but I remember Sony previewing motorstorm, lair, resistance and other graphically Advanced games a little before releasing the system.

Sony did give us dual analog sticks... but Nintendo has pretty much given the world everything else. Motion control in a practical way, the mainstay analog stick(first analog stick was sega), d-pad, face buttons, rumble, glasses-less 3D displays, and much much more~ Sony and Microsoft are the copycats.

Hatsune-Miku2219d ago (Edited 2219d ago )

Dual rumble, dual analog, L2,R2,L3,R3 ,transferring (ps1) , motion control , 1080p gaming , hdmi, blu ray, 3d social environment Sony did first most of which Nintendo are copying.

ChickeyCantor2219d ago (Edited 2219d ago )

transferring (ps1) ?

You mean sticking your memory card in the console? What?

"3d social environment"

Not invented by Sony.

"1080p gaming"

Hardly. Also 1080p is the resolution of the image output. I think it's pretty sad you're trying to claim Sony came up with it. PC gaming have been doing it prior to the PS3.

"motion control"
Dates waaaaaaaaay back. Not invented by Sony.

Are extentions of the shoulder buttons. They are just MORE shoulder buttons.

It's an input/output standard. Not something to brag about.

"blu ray"
Discs like CD/DVD/Bluray were not just invented by Sony. It's a collaberation between companies. Nintendo isn't even using BR discs. Perhaps a derivative. But Nintendo doesn't owe any credit regarding the "ps3" for it's medium usage.

Again you love Sony. But stop with the BS.

Hatsune-Miku2219d ago (Edited 2219d ago )

You NES fanatics are so silly that making a point of how natural progression in gaming will lead to imitation or copying goes over your head.

Nintendo didn't invent buttons or analog or a lot of things but fanatics loves to talk about how everyone copies Nintendo. Nintendo should be credited with doing certain things first just like Sony, Panasonic, Atari, Sega, Microsoft and a few others. Nintendo adopts a lot of ideas from other companies and implement them in their devices like rumble, 3d and other things.

Ps1 had transferring to pocket-playStation

Companies copy ideas from each other all the time and if something is successful it would be silly if they don't try to capitalize off of the idea. They might do things different or approach things in a different way but people copy each other.

Edit: Considering I've hit the wrong reply button this is directed:

"Or that Nintendo is copying transferring from Sony"

Sending unified data from one system to a nother is NOT an invention by Sony. Just because they slap a name on it(transferring) doesn't mean they were the brains behind it.

FFS you're such a damn tool.

" If I say that ps3 AAA exclusives looks better than Wii u exclusives"

Tools build for 7 long years that make great use of the PS3 vs developers who have to make use of a new system?

Just because they are gaming consoles doesn't mean you can just map code 1:1 over to the other. Ps3 uses specific tricks which code only work with the cell and its gpu.

" People will say its too early but I remember Sony previewing motorstorm, lair, resistance and other graphically Advanced games a little before releasing the system."

Oh, you mean like "target" renders? LOL.

We get it you love Sony. But please stop with the nonsense.

I'll take any stop gap that gives me Monster Hunter Rayman Legends, Pikmin 3, Smash Bros 4, Bayonetta 2, HD Zelda, HD Mario and god knows what else to come. Try harder bro.

live2play2219d ago (Edited 2219d ago )

a nice comeback if i ever did see one

thank you

i was gonna say something lame like
if the wiiu is a stop gap, then i dont want to keep going... or i dont want to leap foward
... i dont know something stupid like that

but no yea yours is much better xD

Axonometri2220d ago (Edited 2220d ago )

I'll agree to label it a Gap-Gen but definitely not a Stop-Gap. The Wii U will most likely be very successful on it's own. There is a gap... will be... how ever you wanna say it. Wii U will fill the gap, more than likely have a typical 5 year cycle and push high numbers. While the upcoming Gen will grab elitist core group, then slowly filter more sales through their cycle.

I don't see it happening much different than the current Generation honestly. Who knows... anything can happen.

I believe one of the issues being raised is the fact that Wii U will be getting ports of 3rd party games which have been available on other systems for awhile now, or will be available well over a month or so.

Although it does pose as a disadvantage on the part of Wii U, but I see it happening only now, since it's new. When the Wii U finally comes out, 3rd party developers would surely be creating them for release simultaneously with other consoles. And with the gamepad, the Wii U version will be an edge as it will provide a different experience compared to other consoles (of course it would depend on how the devs will take advantage of the gamepad's features). Not to mention the game would look better on Wii U.

As for ports, I really don't mind. I've already played Batman Arkham City for the PC, and would still love to have it on Wii U.

So I agree with Axonometri, Wii U will be very successful on it's own merits.

This guy is dork....I know what Sega, Acivision, Capcom and other DEVELOPERS say about the system and that tells me more about Wii U than this idiot. Let him play PS3 and miss out on awesome is what ACTIVISION says about Black ops 2 On Wii U. read this and then let me know what you think.
Core gamers have Bayonetta 2, Zombi U, Assassins Creed 3 is going to play better on Wii U-no pause to weapons switch. I am so sick of these people bashing Wii U that haven't even played the games for it or if they have very limited time with the system. That is why I am going with the DEVELOPERS comments not jerks like this
Also here is a link stating that Wii U's Black Ops is 1080p Xbox and Playstation are not.
