Dark Souls and an Easy Mode: The Dangers of Accessibility

Rich Kovarovic of VGutopia considers the impact adding an "easy mode" to Dark Souls would have on the game and doesn't care much for the idea.

"The concept stuck with me, and I’ve been thinking about the impact an “easy mode” would have on Dark Souls. It’s really an issue of accessibility vs. conceptual sacrifice. I’m all for players experiencing what I consider to be one of the best games of this generation, but ultimately I feel making any adjustment to game’s difficulty settings, or even offering an option for a lesser difficulty, would represent an unnecessary compromise, one that mars the purity of a rather uniquely unforgiving game."

I rather agree with this article. The charm of the Souls game is rooted rather heavily in the gameplay experience; making them easier would take away from the identity of the game.
