Brand new Satin PS3 Revealed with Corresponding Dualshock 3. Sees Release March 6th

Sony Computer Entertainment Japan (SCEJ), a division of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) responsible for business operations in Japan, today announced that it would release PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3®) 40GB model in a new "Satin Silver" color in Japan on March 6th, 2008, at a recommended retail price of 39,980 yen (including tax). "Satin Silver" will also become available for DUALSHOCK®3 Wireless Controller at a recommended retail price of 5,500 yen (including tax).

WTH is STILL isn't bundled with a DS3? Bastages, I want a totally clear PS3 now. The black doesn't count since you have to put a light to it to realize that it IS translucent.

I think there's still a limited quantity of DS3 for now. They might want to bring it to the west coast before they offer it in every way in Japan, at least I hope they bring it here soon. When I go back home this summer I'd like to have the DS3 be available.

I don't think a clear PS3 would look as interesting as you might think. The PS3 is suppose to have a large amount of heatsinks (I believe I saw it in one of those dissembling articles), so you really wouldn't see as much of the mobo as you would of jsut the large metal casing and heatsinks within the cover.

I forgot that it is semi-clear already...take a bright light to it and you can see through it a little, same with the sixaxis...but in normal lighting, you would never know...

but yeah...just under the plastic on the PS3 is a bunch of aluminum framing and some heatsinks...the drive is just a big metal box, the UPS is a big metal box, and it would appear that most of the circuitry is hidden in some form of...a big metal box...

just release a trim piece in the US please...I wish I could get the black trim that the 20gig had...I hate chrome...its the only thing in my home theatre that has ridiculously cheesy bling for no reason...it used to be that most components had brushed aluminum or chrome 'feet'...but they have gotten rid of that, which I appreciate...accept they brought it back for every PS3 except the 20 gig...I may be cutting some electrical tape soon...

Wow I thought I was the only one who didn't care for the chrome on the 60gb. I thought the solid black on the 20gb looked better, but at the cost of getting a gimped system.

I'll take the 20GB model over the 40GB or 80GB models any day. It's got 4 USB ports and more importantly the EmotionEngine.

Not like I have the 60GB HDD anymore anyways.

Japan always gets the good stuff. They get 3 color choices (which is a bigger deal than you might think it is) and we only get black. Although, I do love the shiny black, I'd rather have Silver. Colors can bring people in too :). For my PS2 I had a blue and red see-through controllers, because I wanted another color, then the standard black.

Given the choice of a more feature rich black (BC and DS3) or a different colour I would go for the more feature rich black anyday.

At the end of the day colours are really just gimmicks that can make your console a little different to your mates. But not much more.

What really p1sses me off is when they try to make you pay more for a diffent colour, even though the cosole is exactly the same!!! Grrrrr

the Black, White, and Silver PS3's at the E3 where they first showed off PS3 games (it was my second E3, i think, and i got to play Heavenly Sword, Resistance, Warhawk, and a few other PS3 titles).

personally, i really loved the Black and White one, but i didn't care too much for the Silver one. not that it was ugly or anything, but i guess i just don't really like Silver in general. the White one looks great though.

Too bad they didn't have different colors from the start. I would have went with either silver or white to match the setup in my livingroom. Black is cool, but the fact that it scratches so easily and it's a major dust magnet would have definitely made me go with a different color.

BTW, I use the swiffer duster to clean it, so it's not like I used something abrasive that caused the scratches. I take care of my systems.

This is the one I want, with Dual Shock 3 to boot. I`m so happy I waited to buy the PS3. And now, i`m starting to actualy want to buy one, i`m guessing this time next year will be the best time to buy one.. Please update the article. Kotaku just made an update that this version does not include the DS3.

The silver color was the original color of the PS3 prototype which was shown prior to the official release of the PS3.

I'd love to see a transparent PS3. It would be so cool when you see through the hardware while it's playing your game.

What is there to update? Did you even read the thing? Unlike the guys at Kotaku, I can read and understand the press release from Sony. This posting does not have any mention of an included DS3.

No complaints about the console and the colour.
My only gripe is for Sony to give us a better designed controller.

Every time I use the sixaxis pad - it hurts after less than an hour. And it's bloody cheap with that small size ( I got a pretty much average hands ) and featherlight weight feel of the control pads.
The lower ( triggers ) 1st and 2nd button are really bad with the slippage.

I'ved just ordered a PS3 Dual-Shock pad in Japan and hopefully the weight issues will be alleviated, but that's about it. The size and triggers would still remain.

Why can't they design it somewhat like the XBox 360 - which I think is the benchmark.
I could even design one for them...

i wont buy one until they release a white one or a slim one but the silver looks cool . i saw an all red one a while back that looked tight as hell... alright guys i got to get back to the bridge im on the graveyard shift for a couple more parsecs until we reach the neutral zone peace out
