Daily Reaction: Will Nintendo's Wii U be a Success?

When the original Nintendo Wii was originally shown, everyone at the time thought Nintendo had completely lost their minds. While the motion control aspect was interesting and was expected to bring a new and unique experience into homes, it seemed like they had forgotten their passionate fanbase. Unexpectedly, the Wii had blown up and outpaced every console this generation, selling millions of units and even forcing the competition into motion gaming. Now, Nintendo is set out to release the next evolution, called the Wii U, leaving onlookers again to wonder if Nintendo can strike gold twice.

Doubt it'll be able to match the Wii.

ftwrthtx2237d ago

I doubt that as well. It should do OK though.

This. All common sense points this way.

Rare to find it in the comments on N4G of course.

Hatsune-Miku2237d ago

Doesn't matter if it'll match the Wii. It will be a success and I can't wait to have this device. No matter what happens with the Wii u we all know it'll be a success. Doubt ill get one first day because people will be camped out but ill have it in the first week, hopefully. I can't wait to have this beauty in my arms and introduce it to my collection of systems.

Khordchange2237d ago

Not many systems actually pass the wii, wii is looking like 100 million lifetime, the ps3, 360, nes, snes, n64, GC, Xbox, and GBA didn't get to that point

Anon19742237d ago

I think the 360 and PS3 will hit 100 million each before they're done. They're each hit 70 million by the end of this year, and they'll still be around for at least another 3 years. They'll both see price drops and suddenly 100 million is easily within reach before it's all said and done.

Wii-U could be successful long as Nintendo finds a crowd to market the console around

LOL_WUT2237d ago (Edited 2237d ago )

At $250 (for what it's capable of) it would be a huge success Nintendo needs to price this thing good.

doctorstrange2237d ago

That darn tablet controller's gonna put the price up

Shok2237d ago

Controllers are over-priced. Don't use existing controllers as a measure for how much the Wii U Pad will cost. Sony spends $6-$10 making a Dual Shock 3 controller, yet they sell it it for $50. Maximum profit.

The camera in the controller could cost as little as $3.

Touch screens are VERY inexpensive nowadays, it'd probably cost them $6 especially considering it's restiveness and not capacities.

NFC in phones costs $1 to implement, if I remember correctly.

Nintendo could easily sell the controller for $50-$60 and STILL make a nice profit off of it.

except there are more rumors for a 349 euro price point, putting that around 500 USD.

SonyNGP2237d ago

Just like how the 3DS was $300+ because it was 25k Yen in Japan, right?

The launch lineup of games is bare. Until there's a Zelda Super Smash Bros., Wii Fit, or other substantial Mario title, it won't see a lot of movement. Hopefully, those title will be released within a year.

BitbyDeath2237d ago

I'm surprised there is no mention of a Wii Fit or Wii Sports yet. Surely they could try pull some of their old audience back with those games.

CaptainN2237d ago

Um, Wii-U Fit was announced and is most likely going to be there at launch....and New Super Mario Bros U is also going to be there at launch.......which by the way sells a lot better than 3D Mario titles I just don't see how you can say this. And considering Skyward Sword came out a year ago, a Zelda expectation is unrealistic. Smash development started this year so that will take time. They are going to have one of the biggest launches in console history and your say the launch is bare. I will give it it some games are already released on other consoles......but saying it bare, is deff a poor choice of words.

kma2k2237d ago

when the wii came out i thought, they are selling a system that wont be as good as ps3/360, there pushing a gimick controller, mario has been overdone to death, people wont be that stupid to spend money on it...sound familiar? I doubted the wii would sell & i think all the same things about the wii u. But to use Einstiens definition of insanity im not going to expect different resuslts, so while i dont think it should i belive the wii u will sell like freakin crazy!

avengers19782237d ago

Yeah but will there be a huge casual market that goes out and gets it... um probably not.

SSKILLZ2237d ago (Edited 2237d ago )

that's what i keep saying, the casual market is gonna go ape sh!t for the Wii-U and Nintendo Land will be a successes, many will be surprised on how light the tablet is and the way the tablet feels in your hands.
