Dust: An Elysian Tail Review | Game Podunk

GP: "At some point in life, everyone faces a crisis of identity. Who am I and just what is it that defines me? Humble Hearts’ debut game stars a character facing that same dilemma. As the titular hero seeks his identity, the player is left wondering not only who Dust is, but what Dust is meant to be."

Crazy that it was all made by one guy except the music

Oh boy, an amnesiac furry character with mediocre character designs, character models that stand out against backgrounds instead of look like they're part of the game, and not giving the exploration of a good Metroidvania. Just what I was looking for!

... Yeah, thanks for warning me away from this one.

It's got it's own charms. The story and characters are actually pretty engaging, the incredible animation makes up for some of the poorer character designs, and the combat is fast and fun.

It doesn't come close to dethroning the games it obviously draws inspiration from, but it's still a lot of fun to play through, I promise.

Glad i got the trial first, saved me 15 bucks. Images were so pretty but in game felt different. Felt bland or a free flash game. Really wanted to like this game

Extremely harsh review, and a bias that feels like this game was doomed in this reviewers hands before they'd even got a copy. For those who haven't played the demo but are happy to assume Dust isn't good, you're missing out, there are plenty of reviews that dwarf these negative ones to explain why this game is so good, so I would do yourself a favour and at least try the demo. I wouldn't compare it to a free flash game, another overly harsh and perhaps prejudice to the art style opinion.

Amazing that one man made this, even more so that this is his first game he's ever made. And even forgetting those details, this is still one you would be better off owning this year. Without a doubt.

Hollow Knight was a masterpiece. I cared less for the arena combat (Gods, not in the in-game arena) but everything was tight and the exploration was extremely enjoyable. Absolute masters of their craft in level design. I hope Silk Song gives the bees a second chance since their area was only a short subsection.
