Sound Advice: If you want a new Blu-ray player, try Sony's PS3

Pittsburgh Post Gazette advises: "If you want a Blu-ray player, get a PS3. It is the fastest, most reliable Blu-ray player available, can be updated to Profile 2.0, and is priced the same as an entry-level Profile 1.0 player. The PS3 has been well supported by Sony and is rock-solid reliable, unlike the competing Profile 1.0 players at the same price. Why would you pay the same $399 for much less? The PS3 isn't just the smart choice for Blu-ray -- it is the only choice. Be sure to get the Blu-ray Disc remote accessory for an additional $25. For your $424 you not only have the best Blu-ray player available, you have one that should be future-proof, as well.

If you got a free Blu-ray Profile 1.0 player as part of an HDTV tie-in deal, you still have a machine that will play movies in glorious high-def; be sure to thoroughly enjoy it. If you are looking to buy a new Blu-ray player go straight to the PS3."

Only problem is, I don't game ALL the time. Sometimes, I just want to kick f'n back and watch a movie, or chat with my buddy in London and my homegirl in Greece at the same time, or check my online bank account while deciding what game I want to play next, or maybe just download and listen to a podcast while I clean up the house.

Bottom line, the PS3 is the centerpiece of my at home entertainment. If all you ever intend to do is play games, the 360 or the Wii is perfect for you. However, if you want a piece of equipment that NEVER stops being useful no matter what you want to do, then the PS3 is for you.

Edit: Oh yeah, damn near forgot. It also happens to play great games like Uncharted, UT3, PixelJunk Monsters, Super StarDust HD, High Velocity Bowling, Tekken 5 Online, and Warhawk. Also, lest I forget the upcoming releases of GTA4, DMC4, Resistance 2, Killzone 3, Metal Gear Solid 4, Final Fantasy 13, Little Big Planet, Fallout 3, InFamous, Gran Turismo 5, and the Agency.

What would you know about being unbiased?

-EvoAnubis-4332d ago

In my above post, I meant Killzone 2, not 3. Sorry ladies and gents; it's late, and I'm running on almost 32 hours of straight awakeness.

The same as much you know about being unbiased.

The PS3 is actually the best Blu-ray player you can... It can always be upgraded thru firmware. Always. It's going to be an amazing system and will always remain viable as long as Blu-ray is.

People should not buy profile 1.0 players. Wait for the final profile (I think 2.0) but if you need a good blu-ray player then buy a PS3 and you will get your moneys worth.

I'm shocked to read Don Lindich, an avid HD DVD supporter from the very start, praise blu-ray. I guess this war really is at its end.

Constant firmware updates makes the PS3 one of the best Blu-ray players.
