Psychonauts Coming to PS2 Classics This Tuesday

Psychonauts was Double Fine‘s first game, and it came out for the PlayStation 2 way back in 2005. We love it a lot. It’s the story of a gifted young psychic cadet who must delve deep into dangerous minds and put a stop to a sinister conspiracy. And on August 28th, you will be able to download it to your PlayStation 3 as a PlayStation 2 Classic.

Eh, I played it on PC earlier this year and the quirky cartoon art style holds up surprisingly well.

@TheMrFRaz: what do you mean, surprisingly well? Non-realistic art-styels ALWAYS age better than realism, because they don't age at all.

This is why old 2D games still look fantastic, hampered only by display resolution--why, specifically, Icewind Dale 2 looked head and tails above better than Dragon Age (either dragon age). This is why Dragon Quest VIII looks better than most games today. Why Wind Waker looks better than Twilight Princess.

A strong visual art style simply does not age the same way as so-called hyper-realism. That's why it's -always- the superior design choice.

@Xof Oh, I totally agree with you. I'm of the opinion that cel-shaded art styles hold up better than any other type of 3D visuals. I only say surprising because I've gone back to other non-realistic PS2-era games lately (like Kingdom Hearts, for instance) and, while they still look great, you can definitely tell that they're rough around the edges. Psychonauts, in contrast, looked quite clean. Surprisingly.

But when I played Wind Waker last fall...Ugh, if that isn't the prettiest game ever made...

Just read any review if you are on the fence.

It's just different without trying to be DIFFERENT.

I would honestly be surprised if somebody didn't genuinely enjoy this game.

Dude its a good game regardless. Why does it bother you so much that they bring up it being on another platform? As long as people get to play the game why does it matter so much to you what platform they know they can get it on?

It's not like his comment will get people to decide not to buy it on PS3. Loosen up a bit man and relax. Cant we all just enjoy the game regardless of platform?

Awesome. Great game and hope the people who didnt get the chance will play it now
