Why 1990s SNES Games Were so Damn Expensive

It's easy to forget now, but back in the 1990s, many video games had the same price on the sticker they do today, which when you account for inflation reminds you that they were super expensive.

I remember SNES games being $29.99

Snes cartridge were basically made of flash memory. That kind of memory was still pretty expensive 5 years ago, then imagine it in the 90's! $80 easily for games and others were even more expensive because they had additional memory and stuff built-in.

Even for the N64 the games were still really expensive while PS1 discs sold for 50 dollars max. N64's were between 60-80 dollars.

Were you high or on crack as a kid?! Lol! I wish snes games back then were $30!! I clearly remember paying $79 for mortal kombat! And I'm sure that was the average snes game price.

LOL.. I paid like $140 for an import of SF II!

I remember I got Mortal Kombat for $90. Games were expensive back then.

I didnt get an N64 the first year because it was expensive and the games were almost $70 each. I got a PS1 first and had to get a second hand N64. Cartridges are pricey.

I've owned N64 since the day it was released in the US. N64 games have never been more than $50.

Or I should say that I've never had to pay any more than $50.

I"ve been paying $50 per new game since 1996, up until they switched it to $60 with the current gen.

Neo Geo games were absurdly expensive.

Totally worth it. Earthbound, Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy "III" are my favorites in my entire collection of games.

Holy crap might as well have been me who wrote this! Agree 100% three of my favorite games all time! Played each of them an emarising ammount of times. Got the emulator at work & play it at lunch still to this day!
