Regaining fans' trust in Final Fantasy will take a "long time", FF14 producer says

Rebuilding fans' trust in the Final Fantasy brand will take "a long time", following the damage done by the original and "failed" version of Final Fantasy 14, Square Enix has admitted.

A Realm Reborn, the in-development relaunch of Final Fantasy 14, will be only the "starting point" of this, the game's producer Naoki Yoshida told Eurogamer this week.

"Losing your fans' trust is very easy thing to do. Regaining it is very hard," Yoshida said. "We believe Final Fantasy 14 is a starting point, and that players joining us will think 'oh wow, this is great, I'll see what they can do with Final Fantasy 15 or 16'.

Give the fans what they want and you will have your trust from your fans

That advice only works to a certain extent. Not just with FF, but the industry in general. A lot of people beg for a lot of different things and it's impossible to please everyone. If developers are forced to do what the fans want the project probably won't be as inspired or close to the heart of the developer. Although FF does need to take some advice from the fans, because even though I liked FF13 it should have been a lot different.

Whats sad is that they think that FF 14 is the sole reason for why the franchise has fallen. Most people have never even played 14. The franchise started to fall when FF 10-2, 13, and 13-2 came out. Ff 11 might have been ok, but should have been a spin off since it was entirely an mmo.

They could come back with just one great awesome game. I think they still have brand loyalty as badly as it has been damaged. If they released a game and got great reviews and people start talking about how great it is they can turn it around. But will it happen? I really don't think so.

Should be saying this for what many would consider to be a main FF title. Not an MMO.

Daver2278d ago

Is he saying that because of FF 14 or FF 13 XD

As much as FF13 defenders defend the game as being "perfect" they keep ignoring that many of its "haters" were former fans.

Square's trying, think they are anyway, to get those back. As well as the ones they lost with FF14's first launch.

It's mostly 14, square enix knew that 13 made a lot of fans unhappy so they tried to fix a lot of things with 13-2.

14 was just a train wreck that had to be completely changed in order for it be moderately successful.

So you think regaining your fans' trust will begin with a FF MMO? You clearly do not understand your fans.

Kamikaze1352277d ago

Clearly you're missing the point.

This guy is only in charge of the train wreck that is ffxiv. Just because it says it's Final Fantasy doesn't mean it speaks for every game in the series. He can only do so much.

But that is beyond the point. The point is that at they are actually trying. They devoted a ton of time, resources, and money into this to try to appeas the fans that were not at all impressed. If it were possible with ANY FF, it would be an online one. This guy has undertaken a huge task, and he has done so because of the fans.
