Chris Buffa (Modojo): Glu Games is at it again, this time with a free-to-play iOS and Android release called Tavern Quest. The game lets users build and then customize their own taverns, but there's a layer of strategy that could make this a mobile favorite. From what we've heard, players can collect more than 50 different heroes and then send them on quests to defeat villains.
Most legends tell of heroes who have beaten the odds and saved individuals, entire lands, and even the whole world. These elite warriors often lay down their lives to save their people without question, but while they’re typically regarded as saviors once the deed is done very little consideration is given to the mild-mannered tavern keeper who feeds and shelters them along the way.
The star of Glu's latest freemium concoction is a big purple monster. Rather than eating villagers, though, this ugly brute wants to feed them using his culinary skills.
John Bedford (Modojo): Had you told me a week ago that today I'd be singing the praises of a game that's not only yet another sprawling empire-builder, but a paid-for game with a cash-shop tacked onto it, then I would have suggested that either you, or I, had gone quite mad.
